Plants vs. Zombies is Popcap's (Peggle, Bejeweled, Zuma, etc) quirky/cutesy upcoming entry into the tower defense genre. PC Gamer gave it 90% in their review, and EDGE Magazine also gave it a 9 out of 10.

Pre-purchase it on Steam for $9.99, and you'll immediately receive Popcap's Heavy Weapon Deluxe on Steam for free. PvZ will be released on May 5, so that's how long this pre-purchase bonus offer is good for.
I've been playing Heavy Weapon a little... I think it is definitely worth the 10% discount one would get otherwise, be it $1 or $2.

I would probably price heavy weapon at $2.99 to $3.99

Obviously, if people already have Heavy Weapon, their consideration is different.
The bottom line is, Plants vs Zombies is $20 directly from Popcap (this is now confirmed), or $18 with the coupon. It's still $10 on Steam, so even with the e-mail coupon, the direct price is much higher than the Steam price.

So, not only is it cheaper on Steam, but anyone who wants PvZ might as well preorder it there, and get Heavy Weapon for free (because, well, why not? Never turn down a free game, I say). I mean, depending on your point of view, you could say that they're practically paying you $8 to take a copy of Heavy Weapon on Steam, ya know? Yeah, yeah, that's a bit of a stretch, but you get my point.

Bottom line: Buy Plants vs Zombies on Steam.

Bonus funfact: For anyone who cares, it's pretty much confirmed that the Steam version (and only the Steam version, of course) of PvZ will include Steam Achievements, for fans of that sort of thing.

I played the demo yesterday and just bought it off Steam. It says the game will unlock in 6 hours.

I've already played Heavy Weapon on my Xbox 360, but I'll take a free copy on Steam. :)

Unfortunately I'll buy buying the mac version (for the mrs.), and unless Valve has a surprise release for mac-owners, I don't think I'll be taking advantage of this deal.

welp played the demo and enjoyed it enough for the $10 I spent on it. The steam achievements that ppl say will be available certainly helped me, I'm a sucker.

Downloaded it this afternoon. Seems like a great game - I'm hooked. Not sure if I would pay $20 for it (like on PopCap's Web site).
A little Pixel Junk Monsters and a lot its own thing.
Psst...Pixeljunk Monsters didn't invent the Tower Defense genre. ;)

I missed the part where he said it did invent the tower defense genre :p

played the demo and enjoyed it. Saw it was $20 on popcap's website. Good game, but not $20 great imo. $10 is the sweet spot, wished I pre purchased to get heavy arms for free oh well, just bought it.

I know this is a long shot but - when you buy PvZ from Steam, did you get a registration key for it? Usually with PopCap's games the same key will work for a Mac or PC install. But since this is Steam, I imagine that might not bother with registration keys at all.

For anyone wondering about Achievements: a Popcap employee on the Steam forums hinted that the achievements patch might be coming next week. :)

Nope, sorry.

I didn't even click on this thread because of the stupid name of the game, lol. Had I known the game was good I would have bought.. Is there any possible way to get heavy weapon free now? Or is that offer dead forever?

Really enjoying PvZ so far and I'm near the end of level 3 or stage 3. I like that it's constantly giving you new things and that the levels are short. They're so short I can't tell myself to stop.

lol I know what you mean. I'm really enjoying this game too, haven't touched Heavy Weapon yet either. On adventure 4-? right now, loving all the new plants, makes for different strategies etc. and the store is a good feature. I unlocked 3 mini games and played those for a change, and got gold on each of those. So much to do! =D

Nope. That was strictly a pre-order offer.
