good lord i never pre ordered this many games in such short time: phantom brave, grolanser delux, donkey konga, halo 2. i will probably get shin megami tensei nocturne as well

Yes.

By the way, if you enter "Donkey Konga" into their search engine, this is the only thing that comes up. I'm pretty sure that if they were selling the drums separately, they would have shown up separately. And, as someone already mentioned, they don't even sell accessories.
 
It's the same price at Wherehouse.com too. I did a preorder about 2 months ago... I believe Wherehouse and Mediaplay are run by the same group now, so that would explain the price being the same.

i think i'll preorder from wherehouse.....their return policy says that they enclose a prepaid shipping label for returns..so the customer doesn't get burned

sounds much better than mediaplay.com's policy
 
I called the customer service number at Sam Goody and the guy told me the reason it's so cheap is because this is just the game, regardless of the fact that the confirmations lists BONGOS/GAME.

Are mediaplay and wherehouse all part of the same company as Sam Goody?

EDIT: A few other people I know called to confirm this and they got the same response. So unless they're trying to trick us into not buying out all the copies of the game (which doesn't make sense) it looks like it's just the game. :(
 
It can't be just the game, how would you play it? Besides, that would still be false advertising, and there's no way they'd sell a stand alone game (if even available), but not the package...
 
You don't have to convince me. I know you can't play the game without the bongos and I know it's false advertising (well, kind of).

But that's what the CSR told me, and other CSR's told other people. I would suggest you call for yourself.

Like everyone else, I'm still holding out hope that this is the game and the bongos, but it's not looking good right now.

I'm going to call again tomorrow and ask a different CSR and see if he says the same thing.
 
All I know is that what it states is what it states. I ordered when this post was first posted. It's one thing for them to pull the deal/mistake and not offer it anymore, but not valuing what has already transpired is not valuing their word. And that completely undermines any credibility that the company may have. Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that I've never gotten stiffed by a dishonest company and I'm not about to. If they try to pull something, you just talk to the right people (regional managers, the VP of PR, the BBB, the media, etc.).

For whatever reason, it tentatively appears that Sam Goody/mediaplay/wherehouse have decided otherwise.

Hmmm, should be interesting, has anyone else contacted Nintendo about how the game will be sold?

EDIT: I just E-mailed Nintendo, I'll see if they can shed any light on things
 
I just called Nintendo and the CSR said there are only 2 SKU's for Donkey Konga. One for the game that comes WITH one set of Bongos ($49.99) and another for just the Bongos($29.99). He said there is no SKU for just the game.

So the only way you can buy the game is WITH the Bongos.

I mentioned the mixed signals from retailers and he said they are probably just interpretting the SKU for the game with Bongos as just the game.

CSR's at Sam Goody, Mediaplay, etc can only interpret what they see on the screen. If Nintendo releases a game called Donkey Konga that includes the Bongos, the SKU may only read "Donkey Konga game".

So unless these retailers are opening each package and selling the game and Bongos separately, which is doubtful, I think we are getting both.

Yep, it looks like Nephilim is right.

Here is a transcript of an email a member over at VGTalk received. (He's one of the guys that called and they originally told him it was just the game).

"In response to your email, after researching this issue, we have found that the item does indeed come with the controller. Sorry for the mass confusion!! I personally verified this info with Nintendo directly, so rest assured, it does come with one of the drum controllers.

Please let us know if there is anything else that we can do for you.

I just called Sam Goody and got Matt McClure on the phone!! Yup, the guy from the email above and he verified again that YES we are all getting the Bongos and game!!!

Very nice guy and he said they are getting alot of calls about this issue.

He also said that if you ordered from Mediaplay, SamGoody or Suncoast, they are all the same company and you will all get the game and Bongos.

Issue resolved!
 
30$ for this game is a steal! Especially since it is now verified that it comes with the controller. Even if you don't like the game, I'm sure you could re-sell it for at least what you paid. Plus you need the bongo for the DK platformer comming out soon, if I remember correctly.
 
I assume this also means that those who ordered it from FYE at $31.99 are also getting the game and drums. That's where I preordered it.
 
It's great they are now saying the bongos are included. I just hope they don't cancel all the orders if this ends up being a price mistake.

When I checked my order status online, it shows me that "Your order has been shipped".

I'm afraid they will catch their mistake, say they shipped and it got lost and then ask if we want to re-order at regular price. I'm a pessimist though. Maybe someone should e-mail that guy and ask what's up?
 
Mine has said shipped all along. But it has also said back-ordered. They can't ship a back-ordered (not yet released) game. That's just their weirdness going on.

i preordered today. it says "Donkey Kong: Bongos / Game" in the shopping cart and in my email. so its both the game and the drums.
 
Man, I'm so tempted to get in on this after playing the display at TRU. :whistle2:/ Do I REALLY need to go against my cheap-ass nature and pay a massive $30 for a game, though? Hmmm...

If you've played the demo set-up how could you NOT have this game preordered?! -This game is a blast!

I don't regret the $70 bucks I dropped for Samba De Amigo back in the day...and if you pass this deal up the only thing you'll regret is the price you'll pay on eBay :wink:
 
I don't argue that it's a great game. It's just that I haven't paid more than $25 for a game in...well, over a year now. LOL This site has spoiled me to the point where $30 seems like a lot to pay. Truthfully, though, this is the best deal on this particular game that we're likely to see in a long time....
 
I will pre-order......just because I need more than one copy of the game.....
I already pre-ordered it somewhere else along with 3 extra sets of bongos. Yes the game is that good......easily one of the best games at E3. And the other Donkey Kong Adventure game that uses the bongos was equally as fun.

Though I am still dubious of the 30$ for game and bongos......it is reminiscent of the KARAOKE REVOLUTION & WalMart Fiasco. Not to mention there is a predicted shortage of DONKEY KONGA for the holidays.

I hope all of you are pre-ordering TAIKO DRUM MASTER as well!!!
 
I ordered one. I can always send it back if it is just the bongos.
When you stick it on your cart it says bongos/game .

Read the previous posts. NOA said there is not a game only package. Just the combo pack and the controller only.
