Update on April 22, 2009: Protagonist Name is Chuck Greene!

From Silicon Era
Dead Rising was an Xbox 360 exclusive unless you count the Wii-make, Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop. Dead Rising 2 will invade three platforms: Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PCs .

Set years after the original outbreak, Dead Rising 2 is set in Fortune City where there are thousands more zombies to face. Scratch that tens of thousands of zombies to face. Weapons so far include a roulette wheel, baseball bat, guitar, bicycle, and giant cell phone. While Capcom and Producer Keiji Inafune are overseeing the project Blue Castle Games in Vancouver, Canada is acting as the developer. Before Dead Rising 2 they worked on The Bigs, an arcade style baseball game published by 2K Sports.
The game no longer has photography, as detailed by Kotaku.
The first thing most of us noticed when Capcom confirmed Dead Rising 2 was the lack of the original title's lead Frank West. The second? Where's the camera?

There's an argument for not including the camera, so prevalent, so beloved in the first Dead Rising, in this sequel.

In the original Dead Rising you play as photojournalist Frank West, dropped into zombie-infested Willamette, Colorado to get photographic evidence of a conspiracy in the small town. The camera isn't just an interesting gameplay mechanic, it's an integral part of the storyline and something that helps identify West.

But things have changed in Dead Rising 2. The zombie infestation is, seemingly, no longer an isolated incident. The plague has spread unchecked throughout the United States.

It looks like Dead Rising 2 will be taking place in a Vegas-like setting and apparently star someone seen wearing a leather racing jacket and, in one shot, riding an off-road motorcycle. Safe money is on this new character being a racer or stunt driver.

While I can't imagine that Capcom and Blue Castle Games would completely remove the photo element of the game (I can see it showing up as maybe something you can do with a cell phone camera) I suspect it won't play as important a role. Mostly because this game isn't about a photojournalist trying to uncover a secret. Also, keep in mind that the Wii version of Dead Rising appears to be camera free.

What I'm more interested to find out is if Capcom will come up with another interesting gameplay mechanic, this one related to the new hero's new job. Maybe that human hamster ball was actually a motorcycle cage of death? Maybe, if the lead is a motorcyclist, it speaks to a more open-world aspect coming to this next Dead Rising. I could see a motorcycle ride between locations being a very interesting new mechanic if done correctly.
So now that it's official, I wonder if Capcom is going to release the first Dead Rising at a budge price with some bonuses. I'd definitely be interested in trying out the first one.

Dead Rising and Fable II are currently the only reasons why I'd want to pick up a 360... Now that Dead Rising II is coming to the PS3, its one less reason to get one.

Woo hoo, Dead Rising on the PS3! :applause:
Well that's neat!
I wonder if there will be console exclusives now.. :whistle2:k
It was announced for 360, PS3, and PC, so this won't be an exclusive at the moment. I think Capcom announced their desire to stay multiplatform for their next-gen sometime last year, so that likely won't change anytime soon.

I think by exclusives, lilboo meant DLC exclusives or differences between the console versions.

I love anything with zombies, so I could care less if the main character was a day care provider, I'd still get the game.

Couldn't be happier with this announcement. It's a shame the PS3 is a breeding ground for sequels but never saw the original title - Saint's Row got the same treatment.

Those screens look a lot nicer than anything from DR, you can tell Capcom has gotten much more comfortable on the current system's hardware.

Maybe, but I can't think of any extra content that Capcom games have gotten on either system but maybe the extra challenge room on the PSN version of BCR.

I'd rather have the sequel than a late (two or three years) or half-assed port.

 The original game was why I got back into gaming... It's why I bought a 360 and an HDTV. This game might be an early purchase for me.

And... I think I'm one of the few that didn't mind the save system, even if it (coupled with the inaccurate "mission clock") screwed me over in finishing the story first time through (not that I went through again to finish the story... I still haven't gotten around to doing that )

wow i guess they ran out of cool name for videogame characters. they should give him a cool porno name like Dick S Biggers or Harden Wang. name aside i cant wait for this game hope its a step up from the pervious one.

Hopefully this will be given proper Playstation treatment. The first Dead Rising was one of the only reasons I was ever tempted to buy a POS flaming turd Xbox. One of those select, niche, and exclusive titles.

Hopefully they fixed that shit saving system I read about as the worst problem.

What is terrible about Dead Rising
- 1 save to screw them all
- 50 survivors for 3 days is too much (30 would be good)
- Kent

i had the first dead rising for the 360 till it crapped out on me, yea it was frustrating with the save situation which absoutely killed the game for me, but at the same time it wasso much fun

I plopped down $5 on a pre-order for this game the other day at Gamestop, though that was largely to just convince the clerks at that store to let me grab a complete set of case/artwork/manual for Uncharted 2 to complete a used copy I bought from a closing HWV.

But I wanted to play the original DR, so the fact that it's on both the 360 and PS3 this time around may get me to keep this pre-order.
