Dead Rising 2

CAGiversary!
So I think im going to pick up this game since its $17.99 used. A couple comments and questions:

I played the first Dead Rising and I couldn't get into it. I know this is kind of more of the same but im going to try to have more of an open mind. The missions being timed really bugged me, which I know this game has as well. Having co op is pretty cool though plus the weapon crafting system looks fun.

Is there an online pass?

Is this game fine to get or should I get Dead Rising Off The Record? Is there any drastic difference other then your Frank West?

DR2 is way more forgiving on the timed missions. There is no online pass.

I would get the original, and if you like that, then get OTR. OTR is more of a fun take on the story.

If you didn't like the first one, you'll probably not like the second. Sure the people you escort are much better (actually follow you and aren't completely useless) it's still the same: Timer on everything, fun killing zombies, psychopaths, oh and you have to go and give your daughter medicine in game to (that's also on a timer)

Don't get me wrong, i liked the game a lot, but if you didn't like 1, then 2 may not be up your alley.

That's not quite true. I absolutely hated DR1, the broken AI and one slot save killed it for me, and I never beat it. I randomly decided to buy DR2 this winter, and really enjoyed it.

DR2 is much more forgiving than the first. What made the first one so annoying was the AI. The survivors actually do something in this one so you don't have to worry about them so much. I'd say give it a try if its really just the difficulty of the first that bugs you. DR2 is definitely easier and is one of my favorite games. Unlike you though, I actually like the time-based gameplay. It felt really hectic at times and I think thats what made it so fun and memorable to me.
BTW Newegg and Amazon both have it for 15.99 new.

Thanks for the comments guys. Im going to go ahead and get this at Gamestop tomorrow...if I really hate it I can just return it. Its good to hear the AI isn't as bad and the timed missions are a little more forgiving.

I hear what your saying and in the back of my head im thinking im going to not be able to enjoy this game because of the timer but im going to try...mainly because its killing zombies and I want to craft some weapons!

Got this today. Played a little bit and I gotta say, im enjoying it. The escort missions are way easier to do now. Also with the first one, I didn't know anything about it except you kill zombies in a mall. I didn't know about the timer and the damn phone ringing every 30 seconds, usually when I was being attacked by zombies. Now I know what to expect coming in and I like the way you receive the side quests now. Ill probably check out the co op later tonight.

I love Dead Rising in theory, but I absolutely hate the way it's set up. I just want to beat the shit out of zombies with everyday household objects. The game itself is an absolute blast, then I realize, holy crap, I have four minutes to get all the way back across the city and inject Katy with Zombrex or else the game ends. I bought OTR for the sandbox mode, which I already know is going to ruin my life.

Damn that is a pretty badass avatar item but I wouldn't pay more than a $1 for it.

And the guy left positive feedback and didn't claim the code didn't work. How odd.

wow so back to the game. dr2 or off the record?

I liked rising 2 but still felt constrained by the time limits and the damn daily zombex

is otr any different/better?

I got the first game with my 360 purchase a while ago from Amazon. Absolutely despised it. Well there were parts which I enjoyed but overall one of the most anguishing gaming experiences I've had lol. I wonder if I would have passed it over if there was a better gaming catalog at that time. I don't remember if I decided to pick up OTR when it was on sale or if my troubled past told me to pass. I too love the concept and even have wallpaper for this game lol.
