Dead Rising General Game/Demo Discussion Thread #2

Well in this mode food found on the ground is set it stone... Meaning that every new game the food found on the ground is always in the same place and in the same quantity. The only thing random about food gathering is how they put survivors (enemies to you in this mode) on the map. Usually they have 1 survivor (usually 1 person but sometimes a small group) every zone change. These kills will drop a random amount of food. So your best bet is to get food from them FIRST then only get food found on the ground as a backup.

Okay but here's the REAL TIP

BOOKS BOOKS BOOKS

Make sure you collect ALL the FOOD enhancing books BEFORE you EAT 1 piece of food to MAXIMIZE your food supply. I forget the exact books you need and where they are but just go to gamefaqs.com and find out.
whats the best way to keep your health up!!! where can i get food from ?
Note that it takes ten real world hours to get the 5 day survivor and you can't save. There are also some glitches than can cause your game to freeze. I started playing using the walkthrough on xbox360achievements.org and was about 4 hours in when I decided I didn't want to stay up another 10 hours to get the 7 day survivor.

Those are two achievements I won't ever get. If you go the xbox360achievements boards there are a lot of stories of people that got like 8 hours into it two or three times before they finally got it.

It would have been awesome if they'd just made a 1 save per day limitation or something. The way they've done it is straight up BS. Those will probably be the last two I get in the game.

They should just let you save and continue, but if you die not allow you to reload your save. Though I suppose then we'd end up with people quickly turning off their 360's before they die.

I'm up to Case 7 now
right after Brad shoots zombie Dr. Barnaby in the head
. Game is fucking awesome.

I don't like the "save stats and quit" option, though, makes the game feel really really cheap. People will just level up to 50 and then run through the game with everything way too easy.

I'm only at level 13 right now. Hopefully I can finish the game without too many problems from not leveling up fast enough.
That's the way the game was intended to be played. That's why the game is so short and there are 6 different endings. Not to mention crazy achievements that take full replays themselves. The game is totally about leveling up and replay, replay, replay.

And actually the easiest way to level up is actually
the last 12 hour stretch before the helicopter arrives. Taking out Special Ops guys in the warehouse.

Dear God why the fuck did I rescue that fatass at Jill's Sandwiches? I just lost like half of the people I rescued to a food run, including like all the hot chicks. I also think he ate all the apples and coffee creamer in the security room.

The fat married couple you rescue at the beginning are still sobbing back there, though. :whistle2:(

the one I always end up losing everytime I start up this game is sophia *sniff sniff* poor hottie always ends up killed by the guys in the jeep before I can get to her *sigh*.
the one I always end up losing everytime I start up this game is sophia *sniff sniff* poor hottie always ends up killed by the guys in the jeep before I can get to her *sigh*.
Huh. I got her on my first runthrough. And Leah, too. Though I think she might have went out on a food-run. Like I said, fucking hungry bastard took all my best survivors.

Saving people also got alot easier after I realized there was a waypoint feature.

The only person I'm really pissed I lost was the shotgun dude in the suit. That guy was fucking awesome, somehow he got left behind when I was trying to get Isabella through. I only had like 2 chunks of health, and absolutely no weapons whatsoever. Tons of nighttime zombies and raincoat cultists snagged him up, even with the shotgun. I probably should have held him up in Jill's Sandwiches and go grabbed some OJ and the SMG. Or I could have taken his shotty and cleared the path myself.

Yes, the dude from Jill's Sandwiches goes on a food run. Otis calls you to get you to bring him some food otherwise he is leaving and taking people with him. I don't think it is possible to miss that call unless you are in the security room when he is supposed to call(I forget the time).

Yeah, but when you're battling Isabella during the call, with no weapons and no health, all the way across the mall, with a bunch of survivors tagging along, it's not really an option to miss out on the main storyline just to go back and save your survivors.

I always have problems with those guys in the jeep matter of fact right before I put it down to play all the new games that were coming out I was on my tenth or so run through and "finally" killed them. I could deal with most of the psychos even harder ones like adam easier than I could deal with those guys in that freakin jeep >_

On the first playthrough this game gets really intense. Like battling Isabella I had a handgun and a sniper rifle from that sniping family in the entrance plaza. On the final shot I zoomed in and sniped her just as she was ramping up onto the scaffolding I was stading on. She litteraly just skidded off and missed me seconds before impact as I shot her point blanked with the sniper. And I had absolutely no health at this point. fucking crazy intense when so much is riding on that one last drop of health.

And then I had to fight through the zombie infested supermarket to desperately grab some food before a zombie grabbed me and forced me to start from my last save hours back.
Easiest way to kill them is to get the box truck from the parking garage. If you can get enough speed and ram them, you can kill one or two of them on impact.
I'll have to try that on my next runthrough. At the point I"m at I managed to kill all three of them, snag the jeep and kill a ton of zombies with it then destroy it. I've heard if you destroy the jeep they don't come back so I made that a priority.

The convicts will return, blowing up the jeep doesn't change that.

It's possible to save everyone, in fact there is an achievement to do so. All you need is one food item in your inventory to give him.

There are about 4 sub-missions from people you've already rescued, otherwise they split.

Well, just beat this game today. w00t! Really fucking awesome. Apparently I got the "ture" ending on the first time through.

Wound up at level 30 at the end, thanks to the 5000 PP Special forces bonus. I must have leveled up 10 times during the last 12 hours of the game.

ME WANTS SEQUEL!!

Maybe they can fix the goddamn "hold hands" feature, you can only hold their right thand, and if you turn around their other side you end up dropping their hand. Not to mention the fucking camera jumps around all during grabbing their hand, which makes it fucking impossible to grab onto their goddamn hands.

The last boss fight was really easy, and rather simple, though the ending was a bit anticlimatic (not to mention, after the credits, self contradictory?), though properly ambiguous as any DotD tribute should be.

I really need to restart this game at some point. Doubly so because I actually have an HDTV now and will be able to see what items are called. There's just something about escorting those retards around the mall that annoys the hell out of me.

They're not so bad. Arm them with weapons and have that self-help book in your inventory. Actually, I haven't played this in a a year or so, but one of my favorite parts was escorting people around.

How long is the play-through of this game from start to finish? I tried to level up once and restarted, but never got back into it after. I might just use a guide so I can try and get all the survivors in one playthrough, or is that even possible?
I might just use a guide so I can try and get all the survivors in one playthrough, or is that even possible?
No, one person will die no matter what.
No, one person will die no matter what.
Wrong, it's possible. It's hard as hell, but you can do it.

And the ones in the very beginning of the game don't count.
It can be done; I've done it.
I doubt it. One character will die, not matter what:

Either the Professor or a girl in the CD shop has to die. If I'm remembering correctly the professor's death triggers the whole "is there a cure" cut scene. Isabella tells you of a cure and you're able to convince the girl in the stop to go with you when you tell her of it. If the professor lives (meaning you abandon the story cases) you won't get that cut scene and the girl in the shop refuses to go with you and you can't take her along no matter how hard you try. Over time she will die. So, either the Professor or that girl dies and they both are on the survivors listing in the game.

From the walk-through I followed on Gamefaqs:
If you follow this walkthrough to the letter, you will save 53 of the 54 survivors, which is the most survivors possible.

I saved and re-loaded my game several times at that branching path and couldn't get both no matter what I tried. I saved 53 of the 54 possible characters.

i like this game, it was actually the 2nd game i got for the 360, but i never did beat it and now a buddy of mine is borrowing it and i've gotten more games since then that occupy me, gonna have to get back on the DR track.

Hmmm, I guess my memory is f'ing with me. Thanks for straightening me out.

Damnitt. This save feature pisses me the hell off.

I just battled the shotgun hillbilly, I have the two japanese tourists with me, David, and the dude you save from the clown who shows you the pathway from Wonderland to Paradise.

Unfortunatley I wasted so much time moving my guys around zombie-infested north plaza, and wasting my time making a save, that I now have a save in the bathroom at north plaza, and only like 15 minutes to make it to the security room for the second case.

Looks like I might have to leave David behind, if I can even make it back without him.

Either that or it's all the way from the very beginning.

Goddamn, this save system is just really annoying. I don't have time to waste hours and hours playing through parts again.

If the AI path-finding wasn't so bad, and the fucking survivors didn't get snagged up on each other, running headlong into one another as zombies maul them from the sides, I wouldn't have wasted so much time getting here.
Yeah, but when you're battling Isabella during the call, with no weapons and no health, all the way across the mall, with a bunch of survivors tagging along, it's not really an option to miss out on the main storyline just to go back and save your survivors.
why did you have survivors with you? i just gave that guy some orange juice and he shut up. gave some other guy wine so he'd shut up. still havent finished it yet, i'm at the parking garage stage and i beat that part already but didn't save cause i was concerned about time. i probably wont get back into it until a while later cause i have 3 other games to play at the moment.

So apparently the "7 Day Survivor" achievement on Dead Rising requires you to survive for 14 hours in game, no save function, with diminishing health over time.

I bring this up because I wanted to know if anyone has had any hardware issues with this attempt, as 360s tend to be bad with overheating. I usually limit myself to 2-3 hours of playing simply because of this, so 14 is a tad extreme.

Any thoughts regarding this issue?

~HotShotX

PlumeNoir did it (and loved it) with no trouble.

Just make sure your 360 is well ventilated. Overheating it going to be even less of an issue if you have an HDMI 360 or Falcon.

It's not about the points for me, it's about the 100% completion. And yes, my Elite is well ventilated, I just wanted to make sure that the time wasn't so great that ventilation wouldn't matter.

Arg, I had 12 hours in and then my xbox froze. I haven't had the heart to try again. Nothing you can do about it really except cross your fingers and hope for the best.

Lmao i 1ked it and havent played it since.

Get a second tv. You can time it out to every 14 minutes you can heal. The first "hour" of the game run around and collect and store food, and the mega man buster. kill bosses, and store food, lots and lots of food in one area. I think I hid in the area where you first fight carlito.

I hid there from day 3 to day 6.5. Left when I had two food items. When I exited, the family with the father and two panzy sons were outside, killed them, sat on top of the roof, ate the food, and sat around til it popped up and turned off the game and havent played it since.

Why a second tv? Cuz its hella boring. get a watch and set it to go off every 14 minutes exactly, since IM pretty sure thats what the time was when you need to hit a button. I watched Maury, Its always sunny in philadelphia, anything I could find.

Its stupidly boring.

I remember when I had this game and was looking through threads on achievements, everyone was paranoid about engaging any loading screens during a 14-hour run through. So, probably stick to one area.
Gah, you just reminded me of DR's idiotic "Every achievement is 20 points!" system.
I actually thought that Dead Rising and Viva Pinata's "every achievement is 20 points" system was by far the best of any game. Stuff like PGR3 or Burnout Revenge where you can play for 15 hours, finish a ton of content and still only have 30 achievement points earned is fucking stupid. Achievements should be created in a way that you earn them at regular intervals as you play. Some should be earned just by playing through and completing the basic parts of the game and some should encourage you to try different things outside the realm of how you would normally play. Dead Rising did this probably best of any game I have played yet on the 360.

bah conversationalist is a worst achievement...I'd gladly do 7 day survivor again than attempt conversationalist.

Ice2Dragon's strategy is definitely solid. Although it should be noted that apparently there's a glitch after the 4th day that if you entered the food court the game would lock up. So be wary of that.

like others that have chimed in, good ventilation for your system is important. so keep it in an open area and not on carpet when you attempt this.

I have a guy on my friend list that has all the Dead Rising achievements. He was obsessed with that game for a couple weeks.

Amen to that. I think Dead Rising has the greatest Achievement system on the 360. Some are hard, some are easy, some you get just for screwing around. Viva Pinata is a close second, but gets a hit due to how easy they are. I love the 20pts for everything method.

The other reward was the Real Megabuster, which I'm sure was used to net all the other achievements :)

That's pretty much what my holiday has been. I've been playing Dead Rising from about 260 gamerpoints to about 800, ran through it twice (Carlito died at 11pm the last time, so I missed "The Facts"), and have been reading all of "World War Z" by Max Brooks (writer of the Zombie Survival Guide).

I got this achievement and I had to leave my 360 on for two days straight, Of course I had the game paused while I wasn't playing. Oh and that was my first 360, Which I still have and still works, Minus the DVD drive sticking.

I hate it. I hate that "Kill 1000 Zombies" gives me the same amount of points as "Kill 50000 zombies" and that "Fall off a shelf" gives me the same points as "Play for 14 hours".

Also, my Dead Rising achievements are somehow glitched. I can't get Photojournalist or the Artiste, despite having met the requirements multiple times and everyone else on my friends list having them, even people who used the same disc as me.
