Dead Rising General Game/Demo Discussion Thread #2

ok so i wanna get the game for my newly acquired elite. but im wondering if theres any chance the game will get ported over 2 the ps3? and its really hard 2 get a hold of a copy of the game!

I saw a kajillion at EBGS, so I doubt its that hard to find at all.

FYI, the game is really hit-or-miss. I absolutely love the game (easily one of my top 10 games of all time), but it has enough issues to put people off.

I say play the demo on XBLA before rushing into it.

BTW, chances are somewhat decent DR will get ported to PS3. It all depends on how good the PS3 port of DMC5 & Lost Planet sell.
all i find are used scratched copy's
Well, that's a different story.

You're probably only going to find new PH copies, or used copies.

Yeah, the game is worth the full $30 the platinum hits goes for. This is probably my favorite SP game for the 360. So many hours spent killing zombies with a post auger.

After dicking around three or four playthroughs, I finally set out to beat it.. then abandoned it.

I picked it up earlier this week, and finally got the true ending. FINALLY! Oh man, i've never been so happy to beat a game. Now I've unlocked infinite mode, which means i'm going to try for the mega man blaster.. god I love this game, you can play it over and over and over and it never gets old.

Has there been an update to this game that has fixed the text problem on SDTV? I got this game figuring how bad could it be? My mistake. I don't want to have to squint at the TV the whole game.

72 hour mode, as soon as you're able to, go straight to the garage and use the cars. No motorcycle. If you do it in the inifinity mode, you won't be able to, since health goes down with time.

I just picked this up a few days ago and I'm really enjoying it. I just finished case 1 and have 3 hours to wait till case two opens, still haven't faced a psychopath yet, but while messing around I did manage to kill 1000 zombies. I can't wait to unlock infinity mode so I can try to unlock all the achievements that seem to be a hassle the first time around.

Hate to burst your bubble but Infinity mode is a separate mode altogether, not in the main game. You have to do your achievements in the main game. Even with walk-throughs you are looking at playing through the game about 6-10 times. That is assuming you actually do everything right and don't have to restart.

yea ive played through about 3 times so far and need about 4 or 5 more. the good thing however is that the game is real fun so its worth playing a few times.

my advuce to anyone just starting would be to say screw the story and get the 53k kills for the zombie genocide achievement. u get the mega buster which makes psychopaths a non-factor, but you also level up real quick. i would have avoided plenty of headaches if i spent a playthrough doing that first.

Thanks for that tip, I will try to do this soon.

And corvin, your right about infinity mode, I must have read wrong when I first read about it. I really wouldn't mind play this game several times since I just found out what overtime mode is, and killing zombies with a lawnmower never gets old. :)
Do you have to get the 53K all in one playthrough, or overall?
Single playthrough. In short, it means driving around in the underground tunnels for about 10 hours in real life.

:whistle2:k

When can you get to that area?

I got discouraged by this game because a) the nut in the gun store kept killing me and b) the chick on the motorcycle kept running over me. Maybe I should pick it back up and get back into it, but I was put off by those two sections.

Via the courtyard. Just look around; there's an opening in one of the walls that leads to a car and a motorcycle. You'll see the tunnel entrance from there.

Well you figure one playthrough for each of the following achievements(you can do multiple at once but it takes some serious time management)

 • Saint
 • Tour Guide/Pimp (I don't think you can do pimp in the same playthrough as Saint due to time and certain survivor constraints)
 • Clothes Horse
 • Zombie Genocider
 • PP Collector

That's not including Infinity mode. Then you have other little achievements that will take some time as well like Karate Champ, Costume Party, Gourmet, Raining Zombies, Item Smasher, Strike!, Indoorsman & Outdoorsman. They aren't hard but they do take a good amount of time so doing them during the playthroughs above will be stretching your time thin.

All-in-all, I still think Capcom came up with the best Achievement system on the platform. There's lots to do that pertain to the story, a lot to do just goofing around and some that take some serious time and patience. Personally I love that they are all worth the same as well. One thing is for sure, Capcom definitely stretched the replay factor to the max.

This is like exactly where I am in the game currently. Maybe I'll go do that Mega Buster thing.

The gun shop was easy as hell. I just stood behind a magazine rack-looking thing. If you angle it just right, the guy will shoot the rack and you won't get hit. When he reloads, nail him with swords or battle axes or something.

I'll do you one better. Bum rush him and grab a snipe rifle from behind the counter. Leave the gunshop and stand outside. Now you can just snipe away at his face.

Actually, if you run to the Gun Shop right when the game starts, he won't be there yet and you can stock up. I don't know if it was a glitch, but it happened for me twice.

Where the hell are the save points in this game? lol

I've tried about 5 playthroughs, got to near the end of the first case and died, and had to start all over again... :(

The save points are in the bathrooms and there is also one on the bench in the safehouse where Otis and the rest of the survivors are.

Damn you guys, I just had to pop it in today. Started at teh beginning and once again, if you rush to the gunshop, the guy isn't there right away.

I've started working on the Genocider achievement, only at about 10k right now after a little less than an hour. Had to take a break so the wife could watch her chick show. :/

Not a glitch. Certain psychos and survivors only appear at a designated time OR not at all depending on how many cases you already have open and or cleared. You have a max of 7 or 8(it's been a while, and can't remember which).

As for the gunshop guy, you can pick up the Uzi on the awning above the warehouse exit (in the mall) which should help. Stand behind the magazine rack and wait for him to reload then you unload on him.

10K after an hour? Damn.

Oh, are you driving through the tunnels?

Yep.
I take the red car down to the tunnels. Go right and then take the first left, follow it to the end and turn right. The road curves left and follow that to the end. You will find a white car that you can take. Drive back towards the entrance, but go past it and follow the curve to the left and get the box truck at the end. Drive a little bit in the tunnels and then go back to the exit ramp. The red car is respawned. Repeat. BTW - hit as many zombies and exploding tanks as you can.

I've also mistimed the truck breaking down and ended up near where the white car was. If you have the maintenance key, take the exit across from where the car was parked. Conveniently, there's a save point at the top of the stairs. Save if you wish, then head back down. The white car is back. Take it and continue as before.

the real mega buster is so worth it. i love beasting psychopaths in about 4 shots and killing the special forces soldiers in 1 shot. u just have to finish the game and get an ending.

Very nice, thanks.

Will have to start doing this once I pop it back in.

Guess this is staying off my TL.

I really love DR but one thing that always surprised me was how few glitches and easter eggs there were in the game. On one hand the lack of glitches is sorta a testetimate of how good teh game but on the other we can't do any crazy weird things like get to parts of the level you aren't supposed to.

Oh wow! I must try this tonight, thanks a bunch!

Any of the elevators in the maintenance tunnel will also reset the maps.

I tried to do it the first time on the 2nd day....didn't make it. 49.5K :bomb:

Now I'm level 37 and halfway there with 50 hours to go.

Playing a few hours a day, I finally got the real Megabuster and all I can say is WOW. I played again up until you fight Carlito for the first time and it only took 1 or 2 hits. Definitely worth the trouble!

It's official - Capcom has been sued by the MRK Group...

"Both works are dark comedies. In both, the recreational activities of the zombies and absurdly grotesque 'kill scenes' provide unexpected comedic relief. Both works provided thoughtful social commentary on the 'mall culture' zeitgeist, in addition to serving up a sizable portion of sensationalistic violence."

I hope this gets tossed out or watch out. Nintendo may get sued because Metroid is an aweful lot like the Alien movies. Female main character, futuristic setting, battling a variety of aliens, some that latch on to their victims. Same kind of similarities as Dead Rising vs DotD.

Maybe he'll go after Shaun of the Dead next. I guess anything to save his tanking career in movies.

Yes, let's hope John Carpenter never plays Lost Planet, Michael Bay never sees the 'showers' level in Rainbow Six, and Tim Burton never plays Destroy All Humans. Homage is dead, long live the lawsuit.

And what about Resident Evil?

I don't think I'm ever gonna get through this game. Had it for ages and I always get sidetracked. After more than 6 months not having played this, I put it in. Wouldn't you know it, I completely get off the storyline. Found an excavator and made my way down the hallway with it clearing zombies. Then I found my way to the maintenance tunnels for the first time. The furthest I've been in the story is
second gunfight with that Latin guy trying to save the old man
.

I hope this gets shot down only because this may give developers a second thought before they make games. I really want a part two for this to happen, could this be the reason why they haven't actually announced the second game?

I found another article about the whole situation.
