Dead Rising General Game/Demo Discussion Thread

Just called the GS I bought it at, 2 others that are in a half mile radius, they're all out. Luckily, the EB in that same mall has copies left.

I was explaining to one of the GS guys and he said that one guy returned the game for that very issue. If my next copy is like this, I'm gonna be hyper pissed...

EDIT: Just took a lookat xbox.com forums for it, and anyone that eve mentions that theirs is doing this, gets flamed the fuck out...

fuck me, I've been trying to get the game to work for the last two hours with no luck. I get up to the part where you meet the which chick with the big rack and the rest of the survivors but after that part it just stays loading forever. It's not an actual freeze because I can still use the guide and shit and it's still loading, but it never advances past that loading screen.

It's a rental so at first I thought it might be that the stupid sticker on the disc was too close to the edge so I centered it, then I took it off altogether, then I thought it might be the DLC so I deleted that, then I deleted my save and started again and finally I tried it on different profiles with no dice and it always gets stuck at the same fucking spot(I also set it up vertically and horizontal with no diff). *Ugh* it's going to be a fucking joy trying to explain this shit to Hollywood Video.

Anyone read anything about people having better luck with different discs or is it a specific hardware problem where trying different discs won't help it? Thanks.

Apparently, from what I've read on the Xbox.com forums, you're also a stupid idiot fag dumbass retard moron dumbass dipshit noob if you have a standard definition television and can't read the tiny text on Dead Rising.

Those boards are a wasteland.
2 questions.

1.) Will I get overtime mode if I survive 3 days but don't do the cases

and

2.) What is overtime mode? :p
1. i'm pretty sure the cases all have to be done since... (cont in 2.)

*small spoilers*
2. overtime mode is the true story extended over the 72 hour limit.

So you have to do overtime mode to get the true story, and unlock infinity?

BTW. Isabela. Motorcycle. Advice?

Dodge her, turn around, and as she revs up, blast her with a shotgun. Repeat.

Be careful though. This is the mission that fucked me up. If you go into it with a little bit of time, you will NOT pass it.

So, I guess the thing to do is just focus on all the case missions and completely ignore the other side stuff until the next playthrough?
Nope, it never has. Only thing that its frozen with is during the demo of Dead Rising and Full Auto (which we all know is messed up).
Im having the exact same problem with my game! It freezes in random places, I plan on retuning it tonight or tomorrow for a new one
Ok Im not sure if i'm playing this game right. They keep calling me on a walkie talkie. They tell me surviors are located here and there (astleast thats what I think it says I cant read the screen!). Now is there any other ways I can take them to the Security room or do I have to go all the way back towards the werehouse?

Also, Going back to the surviors part. These are optional correct? How do I start the real Missions like the Cases and shit. Someone help me please. Thanks.
Can Anyone please answer my question from easlier today? Please?

The survivors on the side, for the most part, are optional.

Make sure you do all the other tasks that Otis tells you to that aren't escort related.

And yes you have to go through the warehouse.

actually there's an easyer way i figured out.. stay in the ditch of the center of the room. keep shooting her as she has a hard time getting to you.

as for doing the cases, yes, it's better if you focus on doing the cases AND going after ending A. without getting ending A you wont get overtime.

Well, I did some more dicking around and I figured I can get past the perpetual loading screen if I remove my hard drive altogether. After that I tried clearing my cache both through the system blade and by holding A on bootup and neither worked so I'm fucked unless/until Capcom patches the thing or comes out with a workaround.

:fridge:

Well, I just got in from swapping my copy out and having to run a couple of errands, cross your fingers in hopes my copy will work. If not, prepare to hear a bomb explode from my direction lol

Jesus, to get the 54,000 kills you basically have to drive around the entire 3 days running over zombies. Well, maybe not all 72 hours, but I'd say 30-40 at least.

I'm sorry to hear that man. My second copy is playing fine. If it doesn't do it with any other game period, I really don't think its your system. I've just played it for about 30-45 mins. Think I'm gonna take a break and have some alkeyhawl...

What the fuck this is bullshit............what are the chances that I get 2 defective games in a row? Any suggestions on what I should do?

Get your money back and buy it from a different store.

Try again. If you weren't and/or they weren't paying attention, they might have given you the same copy back. When I swapped out mine, the guy couldn't remember which was which. Only reason I was able to tell was that i put the slip for that survey underneath the manual. The second copy it, was on top.

I have a feeling though that this is gonna be a game I sink my teeth into. Last game I remember playing that I spent hours upon hours for several days straight was Max Payne 2. Because the story sucked me right in

Nope they had me go grab another off the shelves, I bought it at BB, I payed with reardzone coupons so I can get my money and buy it somewhere else, guess Ill have to go back some other time.....damnit, anyone know microsofts email? I feel like complaining to them to let out some anger

Assuming you have the problem where the game gets stuck at a loading screen, pop off your hard drive and play it like that to until the freeze point(assuming it's early on in the game) to see if it's the game or an issue with the game + hard drive.

I think it may lie with Capcom though. But yeah, try buying it elsewhere. I just have a feelnig that we have a case where some copies are fuck ups. Hope you didn't bother looking on xbox.com though. As said before, they're assholes for no reason.

I wonder if it also has to do with older 360's, assuming you guys may have them? I remember Scorch had problems with his 360 playing the Dead Rising demo as well...

I know Rolento just bought a 360 and he's gone through the entire game with no problem.

I've had mine since the first week of April, so I don't think it could be older ones...

Thats a good idea, ill try that, and if its because of the harddrive I have the $6 one from the sears ad mistake :)

Well tryed it without the HDD and it still froze, so i guess its the disk. I still find it extremely hard to believe that I got 2 defects in a row

yeah the whole time playing DR I havent had a problem other than just some in-game slowdown that is natural on everyone's 360 (you'll notice it a bit in overtime). Works fine and did every main case. I think it's either your HDD or 360.

Just got the game tonight. I'm loving it so far! I can understand how people were initially pissed with the save system, but I'm glad I waited to get it and was forewarned with the "save and quit" problems, so that was some avoided frustration. Also, playing on a 52" HDTV eliminates the text problem, but I can definitely see how it would be next to impossible to read on an SDTV. Thanks to all the contributors to this thread....you've helped me get through some tough spots so far!

the ditch next to the market? the one with all that construction on top of it?

this game is going to make my brain explode :) on top of this boss battle (I hope I left enough time, because I took some time to help the girl in the box) I now have to worry about zombies AND cultists. Geez.
the ditch next to the market? the one with all that construction on top of it.
the way i beat that chick was to get on top of a riser with a SMG in hand. for the most part she would just keep going back and forth as if she were trying to run me over. pick off shots while she did the quick 180s and while she drove by.

The ditch method Rolento mentioned worked perfectly. Thanks for the suggestion though. I'm waiting for case 7-1 to start and I've yet to use (or find) the SMG. I did however find the horse-head mask in the kid store as well as some katanas and battle axes. :)

I'm playing through now trying to get all the psychopath photos and killing them while avoiding the main case. It's a nice reward that you get hostages for killing them as well as a special sweet weapon drop that stays where they died (clown = amazing mini chainsaw, nam dude = bloody machette).

Dude, the full getup for ******* is fucking awesome. I don't wanna spoil it for those who don't know. But once you get the final piece(which might take a lil' while), it's well worth it.

I've never played a game that manages to be both INCREDIBLY annoying and yet so damn hard to put down at the same time.

I played a little last night and there are a ton of 10 second cut scenes followed by a loading screen. I'm liking the game though even though I have no idea what I'm doing (I guess that's the point though). The first guy I had to kill that was running around on top of the food court was a pain in the ass. I saved after that and went to sleep though - I'll try again tonight...

I'll have to look around and find it, but I remember seeing on GameFaqs, if you have 3 certain books in your possesion, you can make that mini chainsaw last 30 times longer :bouncy:

Damn, i think im screwed as far as the main mission goes. It says that my next mission starts at 11, but my save for the mission before that is after 11... SO everytime i complete it, it gives me the "scoop lost" and starts failing all of the future missions, "the truth has been lost", etc.

I guess my only options are to either do the 72 hours without the main mission, or start over >

Mission wise, I did the first and skipped the second, so technically, I had a gameover shortly after I started.. I just opted to free roam around the mall (yeah, the thingy beeps when I have a message, but I love just running around). I don't think I'll ever get around to doing the main missions, I love just running around the mall.

Why is the save system so bad? It's just in bathrooms, there's usually one not far away, surely you can make it to the bathroom to save. Use the map, it helps out a ton. The save system doesn't bother me at all..

The save system is fine. People act like it is some huge chore to restart the game, but you get to keep all of your experience so what is the problem? It is easier and goes faster each time you play through so where is the issue? Also, if you whine about losing progress when you die, here is a tip: SAVE MORE OFTEN! How hard is it to go 30 seconds out of your way to save? And if you can't find save points, here is another tip: USE THE MAP!

People act like this save system is some new horrible thing but all games used to be like this. Limited save points, moderately high overall difficulty. Gamers have complained for years that games are too easy now, but when we finally get a challenge everyone bitches. Your rants shouldn't be "Capcom fucked up the save system" it should be "I suck at videogames - Love Wombat"
