Dead Space 2 -- Discussion
Oddly enough, I didn't ever save money except for the 40,000 credits to buy the Vintage Suit in chapter 8 or the 36,000 to buy the Advance Suit in chapter 10. Other than that, anytime I had 10,000+ credits, I would buy as many nodes as I could and upgrade weapons. Upgrading weapons instantly saves you from having to buy more ammo.
I agree. Now, for some of the really hard sections on Zealot, it was nice to have that nest egg so that if I really needed to, I could cheese my way through a section by spamming 10 health packs in a row. But for Casual or Normal, yeah, spend everything you have on Nodes to upgrade as quickly as possible. You won't need a big amount of cash saved up for anything else.
The infamous "red room" in Chapter 13 (you'll know it when you get there) and the whole of Chapter 14 are places where you can run past the necros without fighting.
Oh good its not just me then...

Am I doing it wrong? how do I respec?

That room is pissing me off, I have no ammo in any of my weapons basically, so by the time I clear the first floor im pretty much fucked from both ends.

Alright, cleared out the first floor of necromorphs, open door walk down ramp, wait for them to come through the ceiling and...OH fuck HOW HE GET BEHIND MEE!!! FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCKKKKK!!!!

Alright clear out the first floor, go down ramo STASIS!, turn around STASIS!!!!! Yeah Punch Punch Punch, STASIS, Stomp Stomp Stomp DIE MOTHERfuckER NGGHHHHH!!! STASIS!! Stomp Stomp Stomp FORCE GUN!...yeah, good work, Open door walk slightly forward *ripped in half by slasher* .....FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCLKK!!!

Stasis and ripper helped me get through that part.

Finished rhe game last night. Loved it, but Im tempted to trade it in while the value is high (30.00).

I wanna play the DLC, but maybe when it goes on sale, DS2 will be 15.0-20.00.

You can respec at a bench, it costs 5000 credits to remove all of the nodes off of a weapon.

Here is how I got past the red room. First floor: Shoot the babies only, stasis the slashers, run straight to the door. A bunch of necros spawn behind me when I get to the bottom of the ramp, I stopped and took them all out with the Plasma Cutter and/or Line Gun. I think you can just keep running at this point, but for whatever reason I decided to clear the ramp before continuing. Second floor: Just run past everything, stasis anybody who gets in the way. Third floor: Stasis the brute, 5-6 line racks to the shoulders (with fully upgraded Line Gun) take him down. At that point you're clear, nothing you ran past on the upper floors will follow you down.

It's not too bad, I think I made it through on my second try. I actually had a lot more trouble with the laser room right before that.

Check Seraphim17's walkthrough on YouTube if you want to see what it looks like, he runs through the whole thing without fighting anyone except the brute, finishes the whole section in like 30 seconds. All of his Zealot videos are really good, lots of great ideas.

Thanks for the advice guys. Will definitley start spending my money on nodes. I'm on Chapter 9 at the moment and have some cash for the advanced suit coming up from what I've read so anything else I'll put into nodes. After that I'll finish normal and start Zealot and a new game + to grab some of the killing/upgrade achievements I haven't done yet. Then it's off to buy severed.

I find upgrading weapons as the first priority works well on any level...It sure as hell worked like a charm for my Hardcore playthrough!

And yeah, the red room is pretty ridiculous, I used up one of my saves right before it, and thank god I did, I died three times before moving on!

No discussion on the free map pack that's about to be released?

I guess it's not too surprising, even as a huge fan of this franchise I personally have no interest in playing multiplayer-- never even redeemed my online pass.

I loved Severed and I really hope that this isn't the end of the line for Dead Space 2 DLC. It seems like they could have done so much more than just one short DLC campaign and a bunch of suits and weapons that are barely distinct from the in-game ones.

Bought this yesterday and I love it. Just finished chapter 5. That last cut scene was intense. How is the multiplayer? I've heard mixed reactions about it. I'll probably give it a try tonight.

Multiplayer on DS2 is very meh (average). The animation frame rate is choppy at best. When playing as the Necromorphs, their movement is stiff and lacks smoothness (say compared against Gears of War 2 or Transformers: War for Cybertron). Hopefully, the MP is improved in the next DS3. Map selection is also poor. This seemed very tacked on, or Alpha/Beta stage'ish.

Single Player still rocks though! This is the bread and butter of DS series, IMO.

Just like any other mp experience it can be frustrating without a team, but otherwise rock solid. It's L4D esque with the added emphasis on teams completing various objectives necessary to continuously progress through the map. Weapons, suit camo, ability buffs, etc. are all level based unlocks which can make it increasingly difficult but never impossible to win against a higher leveled team.

It was balanced enough for me to enjoy and will return to check out the new maps eventually, but lost interest due to lack of a team and interest in unlocking everything.

though I'd give this thread a bump... and also cause I finally got around to finishing the single-player story.

Wow! DS2 impresses. It give DS1 lovers more of everything. There were so many 'wow' moments (this is spoiler free). I was very impressed by the seamless transitions from in-game action to real-time cinematics, then back to in-game again. And the flow of Chapters were so smooth; they were no longer distinctly separated by tram rides anymore! So many improvements all around.

I look forward to Dead Space 3.

now, back to those remaining achievements for my second-playthrough.

I agree, I just finished the game this past weekend and loved it. The ending in DS2 ties up everything so well, probably one of my favorite video game endings ever. DS2 is honestly probably one of the most perfect games I've played, I just had no problems with it.

The single player which I recently finished was great, just as the first was great.

The multiplayer is disappointing as it seems, as long as the humans are reasonably competent, they will ALWAYS win.

I still think the atmosphere and level design was a lot more compelling in Dead Space 1, but 2 was a great game in its own right.

I am kind of bummed though that I'm stuck at 1200/1250 and can't ever see myself beating Hard Core mode.

You should definitely give it a try. I thought it would be a pain but I actually ended up enjoying it more than any of my other playthroughs. Since all the enemies have static spawns, nothing should surprise you if you're familiar with the game. I would recommend you use the force gun and the ripper. The force is gun is a perfect panic weapon to use when your surrounded and it's alt-fire is surprisingly powerful on hardcore. Also, be sure to always carry some sort of long distance weapon like the pulse rifle or plasma cutter.

I watched the youtube video of the red foam finger (hand cannon), and it's hilarious! 'bang bang, puew puew.' but, hardcore, with only 3 saves? and on fresh start without carried over items?! that's sadistic man! plus deaths revert to previous save instead of checkpoints? awe, that's really painful.
[as in, not ghay, but asked to do ghay porn painful.]
