Out today! (1/25/11)

So there are a lot of random threads asking questions about DS2 but I'm surprised to see no official thread. Let all random questions be answered here! The pre-order/bonus games that are associated with Dead Space 2 are...

Dead Space: Ignition - a graphic novel style story with minigames. Completion provides in-game items for Isaac in Dead Space 2, which is the only real reason you should play it because it isn't very good. Offered as a pre-order bonus for DS2 from Amazon, Gamestop, etc. $5 on PSN.

Dead Space: Extraction - PS3 port of the former Wii exclusive with nicer graphics and Move support. Enjoyed the Wii version, can't imagine playing it with a Dual Shock 3 (though I'll certainly give it a shot) so if you don't have Move then I don't know how good it will be.

IGN has already given the game a glowing review:

EA store sent my game yesterday and I got to play about 2.5 hours last night. I did not try the demo so I can't say how it compares. This game is just like Dead Space 1 but better in every way! It sort of reminds me of going from Uncharted to Uncharted 2 how it makes a great game even greater.

The tension and atmosphere are still there but turned up a bit. I jumped half a dozen times and I'm only on Chapter 6! Lots of epic moments so far.

They also made some minor changes which I appreciate. For one, you can now use your waypoint (R3) to find save points, benches and stores instead of just your objective. It comes in handy when you need to save quickly or want to upgrade/unload schematics. Also, there's an in-game trophy tracking menu which let's you see your exact progress on each trophy. They also changed up the anti-gravity mechanics so you can now fly and boost around instead of jumping from platform to platform.

Loving it so far!

Saw you playing Darknyss and I wanted to punch you! My copy is coming today. Loved the first one, didn't get around to the demo. I will also be up for some MP if anyone else is going to play it.

I dont know why but I've tried on two seperate occasions to get into Dead Space 1 and it just cant seem to keep me interested for whatever reason. I guess Im just not a huge fan of the horror genre...although the story seems very good.
So does Extraction come with a seperate trophies list like Frontlines did in the Medal of Honor pack in?
Yes. Has its own platinum I believe.

That's pretty awesome, another reason I might get Move when it's price drops. :D

Waypoint thing sounds real nice.

Will be getting it from Amazon today. Multiplayer looks interesting, even though it's a L4D rip off. I'd love it if L4D was on the Ps3. I have a 360, but I hate how 360's are unreliable so I only have it for single player exclusives.

You guys heard that the mega difficulty in this one is less about ammo and tough monsters and more about the fact that you can ONLY SAVE THREE TIMES... wow.
So the Dead Space: Extraction is a pre-order bonus? is it a DLC we could get from PSN?
It is on all early copies regardless of preorder. It will say Limited Edition on it if it has Extraction. It will also be available on PSN.

alright cool and thank you.

Grabbing a copy on the way home tonite i have been playing Dead Space 1 again to get ready. i really want to see how Extraction looks on the PS3. Its going to be a good nite
i read somewhere that ds2 lets you use your own music can anyone confirm if you can in sp or mp?
Wow that would be awesome. I hope that's true for the ps3
http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/20/dead-space-2-includes-code-for-ser-isaac-of-clarke-armor-in-dr/

so that joystiq article is wrong and the ppl selling a ps3 version on ebay are lying?
Yes. I know for a fact there is no PS3 code.

EDIT -

http://social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/260/index/5787834/21#5828204

"DS2 PC and 360 - code in box, redeem here on social, see it on your registered promos page here on social, get item in DA2 PC or 360 by logging into EA account in-game (DA2)

DS2 PS3 - log in to EA account in-game (DS2), added to your EA account (you should see it here on your registered promos page), get item in DA2 PS3 only by logging into EA account in-game (DA2)"

Can anyone answer really quick; is DS: Extraction a code that you get to download onto your console (ala CoD Classic code from MW2 Hardened/Prestige) or is it like the Medal of Honor bonus where you have to have the disc in your console to play?
it can be both i believe.

i know people got a code from the amazon preorder.
I think that was Dead Space Ignition, not Extraction. Extraction from what I read is on the disc with it's own trophies like Medal of Honor Frontlines.

Picking up my copy in about an hour. I got a random text from Gamestop saying I had unused credit. Followed the instructions and found out I had $51 I didn't know about! I don't usually buy games at launch but I was dying for DS2 so it worked out perfectly.

The comparison for Uncharted has me even more excited. I enjoyed UC1, but UC2 is unbelievably good. If it's that level of quality and improvements, then it's safe to say I'm going to love it.

I was skeptical when they announced the sequel, Dead Space 1 was so well self-contained that I felt like they were just cashing in and trying to make a franchise where there wasn't one. I'm glad to hear that's not the case.

Not me. I only recently completed the game (DS1), but I had played it a while back and loved it. When I first saw it... I loved it. With Silent Hill stumbling and Resident Evil being so sparse and unevolving... I wanted a new horror franchise so bad. I just hope they keep the quality up as they move forward. Also, release games more than every 5 years (a la RE).

This generation has been exciting to me as new, huge franchises (Uncharted, Killzone, Assassin's Creed, more) release regularly and improve upon themselves constantly.

Multiplayer is kinda fun, but I don't see it lasting long and it's level based so low level guys will be crushed by high level ones. Glad there's no trophies for it.

Anybody tried extraction with the dualshock 3?
Do you need to install Extraction onto the HDD to play it? I would hate to take up HDD space when you need to use the disc anyways.
Yeah, you do need to install it still. It's under the game icon labeled as extra's (or something like that), and the install is a little over a 3.5 gigabytes.
Anybody tried extraction with the dualshock 3?
I did and it works pretty well actually. It still encourages me to buy a Move remote sooner than I had planned, but for the time being it will work just fine.

Here I was thinking "You know what this game needs? Exploding babies". Lo and behold, creepy ass little baby aliens start crawling at me with glowing sacks on their back that explode. Thanks for that.

Anyone else get the CE? Got mine in today from the EA Store (even though I got my shipping notification last Thurs!) and the "replica plasma cutter" looks like it belonged to Isaac Clarke when he was 2 years old....the thing is tiny. When I got the package I thought for a second that the accidentally sent me the regular edition of the game. I have to say that the CE's these day's have really been a disappointment. It'd be nice if it at least came with a stand.

I'll have to wait for tonight to play it.

Just got the Plasma Cutter and I'm so annoyed I had to pause the game to come comment...

WHY did they decide to change the button layout? I was playing through DS1 in anticipation of this game, and in that game you reload with the X button. For no reason at all, it's now the square button. That's going to fuck me up for awhile until I get used to it.

Can you change it in options?
Can you change it in options?
No, I already tried.

Your menu used to be Triangle, it's Select now. Reload was X, it's Square now. It just seems so arbitrary and unnecessary. I'll get used to it, and then if I ever feel like playing DS1 it'll fuck me up all over again. Ugh.

I pre-ordered this yesterday through Amazon but I never received a Dead Space Ignition code. Did the number of available codes run out? I know it says it can take up to 2 days after shipping to arrive, but I keep reading that people got their codes within a few hours after their orders and this has me concerned that I won't get it.

And that's disappointing about the control scheme. I'm trying to Platinum Dead Space before the sequel arrives and this will be disorienting for the initial bit of gameplay. Never understood why game sequels change button layouts (like in the Rainbow 6 Vegas series, or even Halo 3 to Halo Reach - even after switching to Recon, some of the button placements are still different from Halo 3).

I didn't find that too tough myself (though definitely one of the tougher trophies... took me maybe 6 tries). I need to beat it on impossible to platinum it.

So no online trophies in 2?

I literally got that last night on my last try before giving up (the try before I got it I survived with 49% shields remaining and found myself screaming at the Television - "1%!? C'mon!"). I really hope there aren't Trophies like that in 2.

Somehow hard core mode sounds easier than "Don't get cocky..."
