Dead Space 2 PS3 Discussion - Out Now!

I'm not interested in the hardcore/3-save trophy. There is too much random chance to die in some of those sequences. I remember I stasis'd a door once and when i was running through it i brushed the side (it was still wide open) and i just exploded into little pieces.

Same deal in Chapter 10, i was riding up an open elevator and I just burst into pieces for no good reason.

Yeah theres one thats got somewhat tight timing later on as well... pissed me off as you get the timing down and then jump into a room full of monsters... and you do this 3 x over.

Anyone know if there is a wevbsite that has deciphered the writing throughout the game on the walls etc?

I dont recall this from the first deadspace, but the credits roll out in the language and then transform to english, so I assume its all pretty easy if you record the credits and go for the alphabet.

could use some help with this im i believe on chapter 12 at the point where you get
drug out into space.theres a bunch of lasers you can move with jet tanks but im not sure what to do.
do i even need to bother with those now or can i just go on inside and kill what needs killing?

Umm.. i may have missed something, but I think those were blocking your entry into the next portion of the game..

if you R3 you can see your supposed to go inside where the lasers are pointing.. if you try they will kill you, so just move the lasers with the jet packs and then enter.

ok i was worried they may be used for something bigger but i guess not.

Nope- both DS1 and DS2 both suffer from the same problem in that respect. They introduce a puzzle that seems much more complicated than it really is because of the zero-G controls and the size of the space you are in...

I'm on Chapter 13. Things just got awesomer.

the only guns you really need are the plasma cutter, line gun, contact beam and force gun. all the others are meh.

I bought the advanced suit and I'm using it over my DLC suit now. I didn't want to spend the money, but it was well worth it.

As far as guns- i'm maining the Line Gun now. Once it's maxed out you get extra width, electrical damage (or at least it looks like it) and speed. Also, the alt-fire is a beast. I killed 6 guys in one go at the beginning of chapter 13 with a little help from a stasis canister.

Other than that, i keep the force gun equipped for crowd control. I use it to push guys back when i run out of ammo, then once I've found some (if i haven't force killed them) I back into a corner, reload and start the real fight.

My 4th is the rivet gun, which i don't like, but it stacks well in the inventory(30 shots a stack) and it's a 1 shot kill for the smaller bad guys (it pins the little kids to the wall like the bigger gun, and it makes me laugh).

I wonder if you could do some advanced strategies with the rivet gun like the rivet mines in Bioshock.. I think the alt fire for the gun is disabled after you change clips, but I may be wrong. I'll play around with that tonight.

yeah the line gun and plasmma cutter are must haves but i also use the javelin gun and the detonator. you can shoot detonator shots all over the place on the ground on the ceiling on walls so in those situations where enemies are coming from alll over its easy to keep yourself protected.

contact beam will kill anything in 1 shot. force gun is great when crowded. detonator is good when you know exactly where they are coming from but your first play through, you dont know where they are coming from.

ill try the contact beam on my second run i get ammo for it all the time but i sell it off. i bought the force gun but it just didnt feel that useful at the time. id really like to use that sniper rifle as well though i doubt its very useful since many enemies keep fighting even without heads.

I must disagree, the Javelin Gun is a total game-changer. Ammo is cheap, the gun is powerful as hell, and you're guaranteed 2 hits if you hit them once because of the 2ndary function. Not sure how it stacks up to the others you listed it's far from 'meh' =)

had to go back to an old save so i can get the contact gun.
the boss was too damn difficult with the weapon set i had and from what ive read its a cakewalk with the contact gun. only had to go back to ch 10 so its not too long of a journey.

id be more depressed if i hadnt seen stories of people ending up at the end with no ammo having to mele for more lol.

imo the javelin gun blows. its slow and isnt powerful enough in the later chapters. line gun alt and contact beam are 1 hit kills (even the black versions). force gun and contact alt are crowd control. plasma cutter and line gun are good for limb dismemberment.

Did you miss the schematic? I haven't been using it, but from the sound of it, I'll need to respect my plasma cutter and use those nodes on the contact gun.. herm.

It's been kind of interesting how "boss-less" the game has been. The first one had several fights- this one just kind of has a few close quarter survival scenarios.

no i had the schemetic i just didnt realize it was powerful gun. beat the boss in like 2 or 3 minutes lol i wasted alot of time and nodes on the wrong weapons but oh well live and learn. im at the beginning of my zealot run now now that they allow for game + its a breeze.

yeah ive been missing the boss battles for the most part you just get these random spots where they throw tons of enemies at you from all over but no real proper bosses except for at the end.
well theres that other one too with the weak arms but hes only a challenge because of how weak your weapons ar at the start.

am i the only one that is bothered by the fact that the title screen image (before starting the disc) has been mirrored?

i'm probably alone on this...

i hope the next one has co-op id love to be able to go through that game world as a team give you that aliens feel. thiniing back on the game overall it change in the way dino crisis 2 changed from what dino crisis 1 was. more action and puzzles simplified.
When I think "co-op survival horror" I end up thinking "Resident Evil 5".

And that's not a very good thing.
yeah and because of that i dont think itll ever be done but there are plenty of times playing ds2 i kept wishing i had someone else in there watching my back. i also wish you could climb onto or over tables i cant count how many times i got screwed over my being blocked in by tables or immovable boxes.

i also wish there were more zero g battles. or actually one big zero g boss fight.

I played the Dead Space 2 on the storyline and I'm on 7th chapter right now. I really don't know which is the best weapon for me. I already beated the first Dead Space game on the hard difficult. I assume the Dead Space 2 is really tough than the first Dead Space. Anyone else recommend me to use better weapon on Dead Space 2? Riveting gun is really not great to attack.

This was something I was thinking of too while playing.

When I think "co-op survival horror" I end up thinking "Resident Evil 5".

And that's not a very good thing.

I also had the same concern that it would be a bit harder to make a scary game when there's a team of guys running around with guns blazing, but at the same time its a frustrating plot device in Dead Space how you keep splitting up with the other characters or meeting in weird ways (like they'll show up on the other side of a locked door or something for example)

I'd like to think its possible though, aliens did it really well.

I really enjoyed RE5, but it wasn't scary. Some of the early scenes where the shanty houses are being swarmed are pretty intense though.

My favorite Isaac/Ellie exchange, so far:

Ellie: "This seems like a bad idea."
Issac: "Stick around...I'm full of bad ideas".

contact gun you will need it and the force gun. ive been using the sniper rifle on my second playthrough and its a cool gun to use for the fun of it.

Yeah, RE5 was fun as a co-op game, but it was an action game, period, NOT survival horror, and forgettable when compared to the rest of the series. I was hoping the multiplayer in DS2 had some co-operative missions separate from the single player mode, or at least co-op against AI. I'll still give it a shot, though. So glad there aren't any MP Trophies. I hate that shit.

I haven't played the DS2 multiplayer yet, but I believe the humans fight together against the Necromorphs. It's co-op-ish.
I'm halfway through Chapter 14 and my PS3 YLOD... ARG!
do you have a slim or a fat?

lol.

Got up and running on my slim this morning and beat the game in about 5 minutes. Last boss fight was a joke (Granted I had the contact beam maxed out). The passage leading up to the end of the game was significantly more difficult than the boss.

Here is my strategy that made it end before I even had a chance to realize it was the boss fight:
Equipped the line gun, alt fire Nicole and switched to the contact beam. When the marker splits up, shot 2 shotsand switched back to the line gun. Shot a line at the horde of enemies, alt fired Nicole and repeat. It only happened maybe 3 times.

The little kid things drop enough junk that you can just heal up immediately.

Overall I enjoyed the game and would recommend it to others but it lacked a lot of the charm and character that the first one had. At no point was I bored- I was always fully engaged, it was just missing stuff. No fun mini-games, no boss fights and not a lot of messing around with the fun gravity stuff. I really like the parts in the last game where you were hopping from wall to ceiling and everything was getting disorienting, etc. I guess they sacrificed a lot of that gameplay for the jetpack.

Some of the elements in the first and the last few chapters were unique
train jump, upside down necromorph attack, the eyeball game, Javlin through the guys head, the escape sequence
but they were absent for most of the in between. The game could have been really exciting if all of those elements had been spread out a little.

I have a few questions.

Is there a way to make it where you don't use certain health packs by hitting circle? Do you just switch the order they're in at the menu? A few times I ended up using a medium health pack when I didn't want to.

What's the deal with the Refurbished Plasma Cutter? Do you get that because you have a DS1 save file or something?

Also since I'm curious, what happens if you don't accept the Terms and Conditions/Privacy statement at the beginning of the game? Can you not play Dead Space 2?

Okay question time guys

I bought DS2 the day it came out, but its still sitting on my shelf in its shrink wrap as I wanted to play through DS again before I played it.

Question is, is it worth it to open it and play it and extraction, or should I wait for a price drop or used price?

I usually don't like to buy more then 1 full price game in a month, and i had already bought LBP2, and will have bought KZ3 this month.

hit the select button it pulls up your inventory and you can select the health pack you want that way but in the heat of the moment that could get you killed.

i think the plasma cutter comes from ds ignition along with the hacker suit but im not sure.

the other question i dont know because i accepted it.

its a fun game and i dont have any regrets getting it new myself but then im a fan of survival horror and that genre has been pretty much dead of late. you could wait for a price drop or get it used but then you may not get extraction with the game as well since "supposedly" games that come with extraction are a limited edition meaning after a point ds2 wont come with extraction.

i liked 1 better as well but 2 is still good especially the anti grav bits i wish there were more of those parts in the game.

DS2 has too much action in it. DS had a few good puzzles that they could've expanded upon in this one, but completely failed.

Then you throw in randomly spawning enemies (sometimes they spawn 2 feet behind you when you're looking), bullshit death areas and an overall lack of horror and you fall well short of the original.

Plasma Cutter is from DS1, the Hacker Suit and the 4 bonus rooms (unlabeled in the game) are from Ignition.

I ldon't regret getting it on release, but if you think it's going to be another 4-6 weeks before you get around to it I'd return it. The price of DS1 dropped like a brick, and K-mart is bound to run it for $45 or so in the next few weeks.

the enemay spawns are really cheap in ds2 too many times you die from that shit especially against those enemies who glide off of walls to kill you.

I still loved DS2 but I agree. The developers said players had complained the first game was too hard and too tense, and they intentionally put in more action sequences to feel "bad-ass". It's still an excellent game but it's less focused than the first one.

With enemies coming out of vents, the spawning is nothing new. It's more excessive here because there are overall more enemies but it's not a huge departure from the original.

I'm surprised it lets you complete the game once on a lower difficulty and then do Game+ on a higher difficulty (I beat it on Veteran and then can do Game+ on Zealot). That wasn't allowed in DS1.

sucks you cant do a game + on hardcore. i only need 4 more trophies before i get a platinum but after trying hardcore once and dying after i got to the 5 or 6th chapter i dunno if its worth the headache to bother.
