Dead Space or Fallout 3?

CAGiversary!
Im debating whether or not to get Dead Space or Fallout 3. I loved Bioshock, and wanted to get something in that vein. I loved the storyline, feeling, and the graphics of Bioshock... but I dont know which game would have the same feeling. I disliked Oblivion. A lot. So I dont know if Fallout would be a good choice. But Ive played through Halo 3, and Dead Space seems similar to that.

So I have no clue which would be better... your guys' opinions and advice would be great. :)

Deadspace and fallout take the themes of bioshock and break them apart. You get the art deco environment, but it's turned into a sprawling RPG along the lines of oblivion (but significantly different). And with deadspace you get another FPS with a very good environment that's almost a character unto itself.

I loved bioshock, and i love fallout 3 right now. IF you like the RPG aspect of improving your character, and gaining abilities, go for Fallout. If you like the gunning, and the environment, go for deadspace.

I had a similar love for Bioshock. I am 56 hours into Fallout 3, and I have to recommend it with every ounce of my being. The combat system, the dialogue, and the atmosphere are phenomenal.

Having only played the demo of Dead Space, I still have to recommend Fallout 3; its merits alone make is a must-buy.

Fallout 3. I have over three days logged into it and I haven't even touched the main quest. Easily one of the greatest games I've played in a while; I love the atmosphere of a lingering nuclear attack in the 50s era.

From the price perspective, I see Dead Space getting cheaper in the following months, so you could snatch up Fallout 3 and play it until Dead Space is at a good, CAG-friendly price. =D

I'd say Dead Space is the better game while it lasts, but Fallout 3 is still a great game, and much longer. As for Bioshock (my favorite 360 game), I got a similar feeling playing Dead Space, but Fallout 3 felt very different. The gameplay is different than Bioshock in Dead Space, but the atmosphere is similar.

it all depends. when you're all by yourself, do you pretend you are in a post-apocalyptic world, fighting mutants and trying to locate your father? Or, do you pretend you're shitting yourself?

Those suggesting Fallout 3 because of how long you can play it need to read the OP's actual post where he said that he hated Oblivion. Although Oblivion and Fallout are fairly different content-wise, they are very similar gameplay wise. I haven't seen many people that like Fallout 3 and hate Oblivion.

take it from a man that owns both, both are good games, but i have had way more enjoyment from Fallout 3 than Dead Space, so i have to say Fallout 3 here in this case. both are worth playing but each have their flaws so i suggest you rent each first and then decide on your own experience.

Dead Space is in no way, shape or form, similar to Halo. It's Resident Evil in space. Fallout is easily the better of the two. Dead Space gets very, very repetitive very, very quickly. I'm at 28 hours into Fallout 3 and I literally hope this game never ends.

I LOVED Oblivion and absolutely HATED Fallout 3. Just giving my opinion. Dead Space is nothing like Halo 3. It is a survival-horror game, similar to the Resident evil series. Dead Space is much shorter than Fallout 3, but short and sweet is better than long and boring if you don't like that type of game.

Fallout 3 is a top fuel dragster and Dead Space is a honda civic

These 2 games arent even in the same ball park..i enjoyed dead space but Fallout 3 is a much fuller and richer experience

Dead space is nothing like Halo 3. Dead space is a 3rd person survival horror while Halo 3 is a striaght up FPS. They are not alike at all as far as gameplay mechanics and tactics regarding inventories and ammo/weapon usage.

Fallout 3 is a genre definer while Dead Space just did some new things within a genre. It is beyond me how ANYONE would recommend Dead Space over Fallout 3 any day of the year.

Thanks for all the replies... they really help. The thing I didnt like much about Oblivion was how I was stuck in those tunnels in the beginning, and parts of the quests... I wanted something a bit more fast paced. It took forever to move around, and I couldnt even carry that much. Im sure that had I spent more time on it, I wouldve enjoyed it, but is Fallout like that? Is it more shooter or RPG? And the same thing with Deadspace: I want to feel like Im actually getting somewhere.

To the OP: what did you dislike so much about Oblivion? If it was the way you approached the main/side quests, character interactions, and/or the main gameplay then you'll pretty much get the same feeling from Fallout 3. If it was just the characters, storyline, and/or medieval-like setting that bothered you, then it's possible you could be more open to Fallout 3. Also, do you like games like Silent Hill or Resident Evil? Dead Space's only similarity to Halo is the fact that they are both based in outer space - it's shooter vs. survival horror in this case. To best answer your question, we need some more details.

Neither game is fast-paced, though - especially Fallout 3.

Once you discover different areas in Fallout 3 yu can fast travel if you want to. Also it isn't just boring ass walking from place to place..you encounter all different types of shit like animals, caravans, hunters, robots, new places, enemies, etc while traveling from place to place.

I CONSTANTLY tap RB while walking through the wasteland so I don't miss anything (if there is someone/something within weapons range VATS will pick it up and it has caught things that I would have missed otherwise).

I have both and Fallout by a mile. I also hated Oblivion but LOVE Fallout. I'm a good 50+ hours into already and hope it goes on for another 100. In Oblivion, I never made it past the first city without falling asleep with the controller in my hand.

Dead Space is fun but I wouldn't recommend it at full price. Pick it up if you can find it for $40 or under. I'm fairly sure it may drop when RE5 hits.

I haven't played Dead Space but I am around 35 hours into Fallout 3 and it definitely isn't fast paced and it is most certainly more RPG than shooter. You can fight enemies using a first person shooting mechanic but how well you do with those weapons is ultimately based on your skills and stats. Using the VATS (more traditional turn-based RPG combat) is the most effective way to fight.

There is also a ton of dialog (which you can skip through pretty quickly if you want) that you will be reading through, a lot of inventory management, and a lot of weapon upkeep.

I love Fallout 3 but I don't want you thinking it is more like a shooter with RPG elements tacked on. It is a full out RPG with shooting elements included to make the combat a little more varied.

Well you could probably beat Dead Space and be satified in a rental time frame. Fallout 3 will probably take much longer, so play both but I'd buy Fallout 3 first.
