EDIT:
This was part of the weekly deal that ended Aug. 28th, so it's now dead!

-------------------------------------------------------------------

KOTOR is on sale for $15 at Best Buy this week. If your Best Buy still has those free coupon mags out (the one with Madden on the cover) or if you stashed one away back when they did have them, you can use the coupon on the middle of the last page of the mag ($5 off XBL software) to get this game for $10.

I did this myself on Sunday. The YMMV part is finding a coupon mag. If you have the coupon this should work 100%. I went around to a few BBs on Sat and most still had these mags out, I think one did not. The one I went to on Sunday still had a bunch. This is Northern VA area.

Note this is not the Madden 2005 coupon book (small square black & white) but the full sized free coupon mag with a full color Madden game picture/ad on the cover.

Did this work for anyone? I was thinking about trying this, but wasn't sure what the criteria for an "Xbox Live" game is. KOTOR doesn't have the "Live" stripe on it, so I didn't think it would count as an "Xbox Live" game (although I think it does have downloadable content).

Yeah, it doesn't have the 'stripe' on it, but it does have to Live logo on the front, and definitely IS considered a Live game. so, the couplon should be totally kosher for it.

Is this game really any good I dont want to waste 10 bucks on it

(I just got the last copy of it at BB for 10 bucks then BOOM my car exploded not joking stupid thing wouldnt turn over )

i blame star wars
The Platinum Hits version now has the stripe.
Yep PH version has the stripe.
Did this work for anyone?
I did this myself on Sunday and apparently slidecage did it before blowing up in his car j/k.

And this game is worth $10 without a doubt. One of the very best Xbox games IMO.

The PH version of KOTOR is also in a green case for some reason? Vs. a grey box for all other PH titles I've seen. (All the ones I've seen have been anyway.)

yea i got it for 10 but had a lot of trouble getting it for some reason it kept ringing up at 19.99 i had to get the flyer and show it was on sale for 14.99 then the 5 buck coupon wouldnt take when they drop the price to 14.99

then they had to call a manager who called another manager then i got the game went outside and boom!!!!!!!!!!!

i am going to have to go to BB soon then,i am about to get a x-box and want this game. thanks for the deal info.

I had no problem except for a newbie checker who both didn't know the products well and was encountering his first coupon. Only dealyed checkout by a minute or so.

As for the value, this is one of the most highly rated games of the decade thus far. For $10 this is a must-have.

Ugh, I need to find my coupon, KOTOR is absolutely worth 10 bucks.. I don't even have an XBOX but I'll probably get it just to have for XBOX 2 (assuming it'll be backwards compatible)...

Need an honest opinion here: if I have no interest whatsoever in the source material, will I like this as a game? Every review and comment I've ever seen was from a Star Wars fan.

I think Best Buy may be rethinking that whole Live title $5 off coupon... with most of the titles at a $10-$20 price, there are good deals to be had (FYI: anyone who didn't get Tenchu Xbox from the TRU deal because of the price, use the coupon on it and get it for the $15 you'd have paid at TRU)

You don't want to waste 10 bucks on a game that was many magazines' and people's favorite game of the year? Are you stupid or something? Look at the reviews. They usually don't lie.

That being said, if you dislike Star Wars and/or D&D style rpg's then you will hate this since it is essentially the love child of both.

Think of all the CRAPPY GAMES that can be had for $10... and think of the goodness that is KOTOR for $10... yeah, screw Star Wars, bring on that shiny new copy of Corvette...

My wife bought it for me and used the coupon no problem. The only problem was they only had KOTOR (PH) I wanted the original box. But for $10 this game is a steal!!!

I picked up KOTOR yesterday. The deal worked without a hitch. I did notice that the cashier had to scan the $5 off coupon FIRST prior to scanning the game for everything to be kosher! Thanks for the post! KOTOR is a STEAL at $10. :D

I got mine for 10, the lady tried to give me the old "this game isn't software" line but I just told her to try it any way. And sure enough it worked. Great game for only 10 bucks. Fantastic Deal

I went to BB on Monday to return a 3 month starter kit and pick up a 12 month one. My BB had a TON of those coupon mags and I picked up about 8 of them (if anybody wants one, just PM me, I picked them up for CAGers). I used the $5 off xbl coupon and it didn't even apply at all! To either the 12 month kit or the KOTOR I went there to buy! What gives?

Hmm, I'd guess you had a dumb/lazy cashier. Coupon should work with no problem and doesn't expire until November. Did you ask for a manager to come over?

I didn't ask the manager to come over cause I didn't really notice it (was busy signing things and PM). But when I looked at the reciept , it says 0.00 under the xbl 12 month kit. ERR.

Where in NOVA do they have the coupons, the one in Springfield doesn't have the coupon anymore

mannnn, i never really liked rpg's...only FF8 and FF9. but for $10 and all the overwhelming reviews...i gotta at least give it a try....

They have them at the Fair Lakes BB for sure. I can't remember which of the others ones I went to on SAT had them for sure. In Fair Lakes they are mixed in with the games so you might have to really look.

Oh, so you ended up paying $5 too much? I've had them give me the total as $5 more than it should be, but I've always noticed and said something like "Uhm, that should be $5 off, right?" To which they've double checked and then taken the $5 off. Doesn't do that every time, but I've had them happen once or twice with $5 off coupons at Best Buy. So moral of the story is that you have to pay attention to Best Buy's crappy check out process.

If I were you I'd go back to the customer service desk, explain what happened and see if they'll give you $5 or at least a $5 gift card. And if they wouldn't (and they have another KOTOR on the shelf) I'd return that one to get $15 back and turn right around and buy the other one off the shelf for $10 with the coupon. If you've already opened it, I'd still try to get $5 back, but you obviously won't be able to pull the return it/buy it back plan.

wubb,

Instead of return it / buy it back, there's also the buy-a-new-one-for-the-right-price / return-the-new-one-with-the-old-receipt plan.

Works great with software since there's no serial numbers to deal with (unlike many electronics, such as mp3 players).

Of course, this requires another copy on the shelf in order to pull off.

If you're not a Star Wars fan and not a hardcore RPG fan, then odds are KOTOR is a waste of money. Honestly, while this game did get rave reviews, you have to put it in context with what kind of gamer you are. A lot of sub Star Wars games tend to get good reviews, Rogue Leader II included. Fact is this is like a weird hybird of RPG with almost Shenmuesque exploration qualities.

Personally, I think this one is for hardcore fans and I don't think the casual/mass gamer is going to like this much beyond the graphics.

One more note on reviews, always keep in mind when a reveiwer writes a critique, the game is often judged against the console's library. A game like KOTOR may score pretty poorly with PS2 reviewers based on the rest of its available library. Given the somewhat lack of high quality RPGs (or RPGs at all, for that matter) a game like KOTOR will score high with reviewers b/c if you're an Xbox owner, you have few alternatives.

Many consumers on Amazon and GameRankings couldn't understand what the fuss was all about with this game. Just b/c a game gets 9s and 10s from the industry doesn't mean it's worth buying. If that were true, Nintendo wouldn't be doing as poorly as they are right now.

Just something to think about when you read any review out there.

I tend to agree with the statement above concerning the fact that maybe this game isn't for everyone. Here's my take. I'm a huge Star Wars fan...and kept reading/hearing all these great things about this game. So finally when it hit the sub $25 mark, I picked it up. After playing it for about 4-5 hours, I found myself totally disinterested in this game. Sure it looked good, but I didn't care much for a few of the interfaces - especially the reticule you had to pass over things to initiate an action (look, open, etc). Also, the story just didn't grab me - although I seem to be in the minority here. Now, I'm not really into lots of straight RPG type games, but I usually like hybrid action / rpg type games. Sadly, this one did nothing at all for me and I traded it off just this past weekend. I figured I might read up on the PC version to see if any of the interfaces were a little different - it might possibly help me enjoy this title.

If you don't like RPGs, you probably won't like this game that is true.

I wouldn't call this an action/RPG hybrid (to me that's something where there are lots of action pieces but your character also advances as you play). This game is straight up strategy/RPG. You don't control your characters attacks at all, you just tell him what you want him to do (Force power, strong attack, whatever) and he does it.

I think I also remember reading a review or two that said the game gets off to a slow start and may bore you in the beginning. Personally I loved it from the get-go. Obviously no game is going to be fun for everyone. (Except E.T. for the Atari 2600 of course, but that's just a given.)

Greensboro NC Best buy still has the magazines out, but there were only about 10 left. I have been procrastinating buying KoToR for a while, but i think this deal is as good as it gets....

if KOTOR is on sale for 14.99, why not use the GGC also? and plus the live coupon to bring it to only 5-6$ total, sorry just thinking like a total Cheapass (I used the GGC on plenty of games that were 15 and below and not just 19.99 and above)

I just dumped mine on ebay for 7 bucks Only paid 10 for it didnt care for it i wanted a more game like old FF games didnt care for it
I PMed it at Circuit City for $9 (discount + 10%) and got the last non-PH copy I could find. Great, great game.
So you can price match and then use a competitor coupon without a problem?

If you got away with using the GGC on games under $19.99, you got lucky. The same goes for using both the GGC and the Live coupon on KOTOR. It's total YMMV. Definitely worth a shot, all they can do is say no, which they are trained to say 99% of the time at my Best Buy :p

I tried PM'ing and using a coupon at CC and was denied. It's YMMV.

Like noobie said I don't think that would work most of the time. But if you've used the GGC coupon on things under $20 lots of times sounds like you have a BB with clerks that don't really give a crap. I'd go for it. I tried combining the GGC coupon with a mag coupon once a while back and was denied, can't remember if I've ever tried using it on something less than $20. My BB's clerks always read everything on those coupons (unless they have seen the coupons lots of times before), so I guess I just assume it will never work.

Cleaver - How did you get KOTOR for $9? If I understand the math, CC's standard price for it is $19.99 - $5.50 (the price differential from BB's $14.99 price, plus 10%) - $14.49

Not sure how you get to $9 - unless the CC B&M price is more than the $19.99 price posted on CC.com??

And again, if my math (Algebra?) is correct, the CC asking price would have to be $74.90 to get a final result of $9 after the PM and 10% discount - right???

Ohhh, okay, thanks for clearing that up. I didn't know that CC would match competitors coupons, in this case the GGC from BB - hmmm, not bad. Though I wished it could have been done w/o the BB GGC coupon, since I don't have any of those lying around and BB is too far from the CC I was heading for..

Thx Busta

Not the BB GGC coupon, the $5 off any XBL software game that's in the latest free coupon mag. That coupon doesn't have a minimum price, whereas the GGC coupon says it must be $19.99 or more. (And the one time I used a competitor coupon at CC they really looked all over the fine print.)

I went to BB on Wednesday, looking for Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, but the game was sold out...

Instead, I bought Midway Arcade Treasures and Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance, the non Platinum Hits version!...:D

I picked this up without a problem the other day, they had none out, but when I asked they went in the back and grabbed one, all they had left were the PH versions though :( For 10$ I couldn't really complain though.

Yeah I pick one up too, but fortunately I also had credit from a price match from a while ago. Anyway, this game for under $10 is a bargain.

I got it for $5 at BB: $15 - $5 XBox Live Coupon - $5 Reward Zone Coupon.

I also wanted Outlaw Volleyball but I wanted to use an XBox Live coupon for that, but you can't use 2 at once. Anyone know if it's still $10 this week? I hope that's their permanent price for it and not a sale price. For $5, that's a good deal!
