Deadly Premonition - $16 @ Amazon
Too Human is the same price and a much better game.
I just vomited in my mouth a little.
Shane Bettenhausen says that if you like Shenmue you'll like this, but I don't know...
Shane Bettenhausen is the reason that Deadly Premonition got published in America. Literally, he is the reason. He works for the company that brought it over, and he pushed for it to come out here. That said, thank God he did!

It really is one of the few games where I think back on what happened, and I think about the characters, and I feel all warm and fuzzy inside. It's just entertaining.

And to the person complaining about another Deadly Premonition debate; what does it say that this game garners more debate than most other games? It's a compelling game. People should pick it up just to see what the fuss is about. If you don't like it, sell it. You'll be out a few bucks at the end of the day, and then you can add to the conversation. If you buy it...make sure you take the time to pop it in and play it. Bump it to the top of the backlog.

I just don't get it. I don't find it compelling at all. I'm on chapter 6 and as soon as I finish it, back to Gamefly it goes!

But, to each their own. I just didn't get the enjoyment out of it that most of the people in this thread did. Not a 2 out of 10, but sure as hell not even close to a 10 out of 10.
This game is a chore and the only reason I'm still playing it is because I'm a glutton for punishment. $16 is too much for this game. Wait or rent it. There are dozens of games better than this on any number of systems.

The most enjoyable part of the game for me is the conversation the main character has with his other personality about 80s movies and music.
I agree for the most part. Combat just gets too tedious as the game progresses. Not more challenging mind you, the enemies just take a ridiculous number of shots to kill while posing little to no threat to you. Add in a damn near worthless map, putrid graphics and shoddy driving controls and there's no way this game should get more than 6/10. The only things it has going for it are the wacky story and oddball characters which will keep you interested if you can stand the gameplay.

Also better than Heavy Rain.

You're still super early on, take your time and do side-quests, they will make things interesting.
Deadly Premonition >>>> Alan Wake
I didn't play Deadly Premonition but watched GiamtBomb's endurance run. I would have liked Deadly Premonition if I played it myself and this is what made me buy Alan Wake. I was interested but Deadly Premonition got me a little more excited for some reason.

This may sound extremely retarded but I was kinda hoping Alan Wake was more like Deadly Premonition lol. I liked the whole WTF is going on mystery, driving around/traveling from point A-B, the choice to drift off the main path sometimes & do dumb shit and interacting with the town folk. I feel like they wanted to make Alan Wake a little more open but Microsoft told em to fuck off and release it already. I loved Alan Wake though so I'm not knocking it and I see that the linear path worked to tell the story (except for me searching every corner for those damn pages...), I just feel like more could of been done with the world.

Anyway, back on topic! Woooooooooooooo Deadly Premonition sale! It's like ice cream in my pants with out the ice! OH! (Sorry) \\:D/

I refuse to believe that I'm the only one here who thought EDF was awesome. Can I get someone to back me up on this one?

Your backup has arrived sir!! I bought EDF the day I graduated when it was still like $40 (I think?). Just the idea of of trying to survive an onslaught of giant spiders, ants, and eventually robots of epic proportions made it a must buy for me. Since then, I have beat it numerous times solo and numerous other times co op.

EDF was an amazing but overlooked and underrated masterpiece just like Deadly Premonition. Both games brought more hours of entertainment to the table and more crazy oddball weirdness than any big budget game on the market. Do I want to play another duck and cover shooter? Meh... Do I want to play a game where I can mow down thousands of giant fire ants dropping out of alien space ships? Hell yes!!!
I refuse to believe that I'm the only one here who thought EDF was awesome. Can I get someone to back me up on this one?
I'll back you up as well. Great shooter with the Diablo / Borderlands style weapon collection. Also, it was released at the $39.99 price point.

DP is fun, but the controls are atrocious. Don't be fooled. They are not game-breakingly bad, but they are needlessly complicated. That being said, $16 is a steal.

DP is my favorite game of the year so far (which is NOT to say it is the *best* game of the year). Certainly not for everyone, but the more adventurous CAGers should definitely give it a try.
With all the positive reviews/comments, I had to bite and see what I've been missing.
Ditto. I missed it a few months back when it was the DotD on Amazon. I'm wondering what kind of sense of humor does a person have to have to enjoy it (moreso than others)?

I can put up with atrocious controls. I played the original MK on SNES and Weaponlord (also on SNES). lol

EDF was awesome but the HP/weapon grinding based difficulty was dumb as hell. I am forever trapped where Hard levels are too hard and Normal levels are too easy.

I'll bite. Wife and I beat Alan Wake recently, and this is a good candidate for a "I play while she watches" sort of game. Plus, I have buddies at publisher Ignition.

With my $10 credit for pre-ordering Crackdown 2 and my Prime status, it's only $5.99 shipped!
(5 hour campaigns for $60, I'm looking at you)
Most games that have longer than 5 hour campaigns these days are just 5 hours of content padded out with shameless grinding and repetition. I'll never accept the LOLOL 5 HOURS argument.

Oh, no I'm not saying it's always a bad thing. I meant it more as a credit to Deadly Premonition that the developers could recognize the game's shortcomings (which certainly ARE NOT content related...this game is loaded with it) and price it accordingly. As opposed to someone like say Activision or Ubisoft beating their chest, saying "but we're important!" and putting a $60 price tag on a game. I felt the same way about the last Leisure Suit Larry game...which by all accounts was pretty bad (though I enjoyed it because I like the series), but they gave it a budget price. I can just appreciate a $20 risk a lot more than a $60 risk.

Ditto, pick up a six pack and come on over so we can put the final nail on that coufin.

Your, what 4th backup, has arrived. EDF is beyond amazing, a blast with a buddy and some beer. :beer:If only they had this shit for XBL with Multiplayer it would make Lost Planet 2 look like dog doo doo. I even went so far as to get the Japanese PS2 ones as well, which are both fantastic. Every 360 owner owes it to themselves to check this ditty out.

I also really like Deadly Prem, totally worth the price and another reason to love the 360 with all these niche titles it gets (this, EDF, Deathsmiles, etc). :bouncy:

Amazon should make a 2 pack of these and watch them sell like hotcakes.
Amazon should make a 2 pack of these and watch them sell like hotcakes.
EDF & DP only. I liked arcade shooters better when you played as a spaceship of destruction, not lolis which seems to be all the rage since that Touhou stuff...
DP is a lot like Twin Peaks if it hasn't been noted. And Twin Peaks was AWESOME.
In the photo gallery that unlocks when you beat the game, you can see pictures of the devs at the RR Diner from Twin Peaks (it's still there in North Bend, WA). If you've watched the show, you'll notice a TON of similarities. Hell, they even had to change some stuff because of legal threats.

This is my favorite game of 2010 so far. Yes, the combat is crappy but I found the story/characters so much more better than Heavy Rain.

Also EDF owned-doubly so if you were playing split-screen co-op.

There were prior PS2 instalments of this game? Mind=blown, man now i gotta track those down. I am both excited and angured.

I'm with a lot of others in this thread, Deadly Premonition is simply awesome!

At $20 this game is a steal and at $16 or less it's an absolute must. The game is full of cheesy dialogue, surprisingly enjoyable gameplay, and some absolutely weird cut scenes.

Get them! While the 1st one Monster Attack as it's called in the UK is good, the 2nd one is amazing. Just look at this vid. The energy weapon and jetpacks make it spectacular. Both are pretty easy to find on eBay. The 3rd one is a strategy tactics game and I haven't tried that one out yet. Or if you can play PAL versions, and know somebody that Amazon UK will ship too, they have them available too. I prefer the JPN versions though, due to their crazy voiceovers and constant screaming.

I rocked that game from summer 'til Santa came down the chimney. Literally. Took me almost half a year, but i finished every stage, earned every weapon, conquered every difficulty. Still the only 360 game to date i've gotten 1000 gamerpoints on.

They've said they're working on a sequel on 360, which i'd probably rank just below The Last Guardian on PS3 on my "games i'm anticipating" scale. I've known about the PS2 ones for awhile, and would love the opportunity to play them, but i don't have an import/modded PS2. If they released them in a PS3/360 collection, maybe with HD graphics a la God of War, i'd be all over it.
. . . $16 is a steal.
Less than 25% off of full retail price isn't a "steal" by any means; it's just better than playing full price.

Some interesting trivia about this game: all of the assets of the town in the game were taken from the town that they filmed Twin Peaks in. More or less, the locales of the town all exist in real life, just under different names.

but anyways, I got this game when amazon had it on sale for 14.99. Worth every penny. A lot of the sandbox stuff can be bypassed if you get the right items. There's a radio (i think) item that lets you quick travel to recently visited spots, so you could avoid the driving for the most part. I never got that item though, and drove everywhere, and I never really thought less of the game because of it.

Also if you want time to pass quicker in the game to just cut straight to the story missions, you can smoke the in game cigarette items or sleep. Sure, neither of these items will fix the somewhat flawed shooting sections in the game, but honestly I found it to be very playable. If you don't like Resident Evil 4's shooting style, you probably won't like this. It's a less polished version of that shooting mechanic, but really the game isn't hard to begin with, so the sort of uncontrollable aspect adds a little bit of suspense.

The story is phenomenal and incredibly quirky. This contains some of the most unique and memorable characters you'll ever come across in gaming. For a budget title, you'll be more than happy to look past some of its weak points.

In case you can't tell, I highly recommend this game.

Disagree, the game was a steal at retail price, besides when game goes out of print and prices soar on ebay regret will be had by those who wish they could pay retail for it. I personally enjoyed the game and plan to keep my personal copy for ever but I picked up 3 copys now that will remain sealed until game goes out of print then cash in.

i dont know about you guys. but this is the first game ever that ive liked that has gotten suck a bad review from ign. i think the lowest ever score any of my games have gotten from ign was a 6. times change and so has igns reviewer credibility.

Uh so one game gets a review score you don't like and their credibility is gone? I don't put stock into just one review anyway. This game is terrible. I hated it. Beat and sent it back. Guess my cred is blown :)

You are a stronger man than me because I couldn't even bring myself to finish the game. :D When enemies starting getting back up after point blank shotgun blasts to the head, I'd had enough.

The worst are those stupid chicks that crawl on the walls. UGH, fight one then another one appears right after. And I could never catch George at home to get the radio quest so I drove everywhere. Torture...

you can look on ebay uk and find someone that will ship to US. Just a warning those games are meant to be budget games so the graphics are really bad.

Yeah, I hear you about the chicks on the wall. They were easy to avoid but took forever to kill...so tedious.

Like someone else said, it shows up on Amazon Warehouse now and then for $14. I decided I'll give it another go (and actually try to get into it) after seeing it at that price this morning.

ign hated it but everyome who commented on the review loved it. i've never played a survival horror game mainly becuse i hate horror stuff, but this one seems like fun, maybe i'll pick it up but i think ill wait for the $10 mark. thank you!
