Deals I got tonight (BBV, RV, TRU, and Zellers)

Cru_Jones83

CAGiversary!
Hey guys,

I am sure some of you are against this type of behaviour so I am sorry if I offend anyone.

I bought 3 copies of Ninja Gaiden 2 used at BBV for $70 ($35/game) using the b2g1 deal. I was able to trade them in at EB Games for $35 a piece for a profit of $35. (Located on the corner of Burnhamthorpe and The West Mall - Etobicoke)

I bought 2 copies of GTA4 at RV on the buy 2 for $40 previously viewed games. Sold them at EB for $35 each (PS3 version) for a profit of $30 (On Dixie Road, just north of Burnhamthorpe - Mississauga)

I bought 3 copies of Rogue Galaxy for $9.91 each at TRU (Near Sherway Garden - Etobicoke). I bought 3 copies of Petz: Dogz 2 for Wii from Futureshop and price matched them at Zellers for a total of $8 each. (Bought at Dixie and Dundas - price matched with Zellers at High Park as they had stock)

I used three games I had at home Halo 3, Shiren the wanderer, and Oblivion PS3.

I reserved Fallout 3 CE, Little Big Planet, and Spore with these 9 titles with an estimated profit of about $130 (not including cost of my own 3 games I had lying around at home)

It took a little bit of research, but I was able to come up with these "deals". I hope this helps some of you looking to play the used market.

Again, sorry if I offend anyone if you find these methods un-ethical.

Edit: Halo 3, not Halo 2

KILL HIM!!!

CHARGEEEEEEEE!!!!

@ OP, I really just don't have the time to do what you did but I guess I can say, "good for you"?

Even though I'm against it and whenever I get a clearance deal I buy one for myself and if someone asks for one I'll grab them one, and I leave the rest for fellow CAGers or just other people in general.

Fair enough. It took me 1 hour of research online and 1 hour of running around tonight to do all of this. There were lots of copies of Rogue Galaxy at TRU (probably about 10) same with Ninja Gaiden at BBV as well as Dogz 2 at Futureshop. All stores are in a 5km radius of where I live :)

I am always curious about the ethics around this kind of thing. In my opinion it is as ethical as playing the stock market. But to each their own I suppose. I just wanted to share my deals with people so they could go ahead and do the same thing :)

Cheers

Well thanks for keeping us in mind!!

I think it's safe to say that those who post here (always with an exception or two) are against this behaviour. Some on RFD would have less problems than us, so that's what is with the "elitism", as you put it.

Just to quote you:

I am sure some of you are against this type of behaviour so I am sorry if I offend anyone...

...Again, sorry if I offend anyone if you find these methods un-ethical.

Flipping multiple copies of a game is generally frowned upon here. How you plan to carry the rest of this thread from here is your choice, but remember, you apologized first (probably for a reason).
What's with the elitism?
What's with the bragging? Those "deals" you posted are all threads in this forum. You aren't contributing anything, so post your hauls to their respective threads. What's more, you failed to disclose the location of your deals so that others could "go ahead and do the same thing."

I have no problems with your ethics. I have a problem with your off-topic posting on a forum for sharing new deals.

+1 regarding that this thread has NO PLACE IN THE HOT DEALS SECTION!

Do you actually read CAG on a regular basis? Your pre-emptive "apology" speaks volumes.

Your post contributed nothing to the community and serves only to boast. And you know it.

Nothing to see here--move along.

A more flawed analogy would be hard to come by.

Updated the thread to include the locations. I haven't seen anyone post anything on the Zellers deals on this forum either. Not great games, but some are worth more for trade in than what you can pick them up for.

Can anyone hear explain why they are against this? The reason I put up a disclaimer is because of this sentence I read from a wiki found in this thread http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=109769 . More specifically this page here: http://ebtradeinvalues.scribblewiki.com/FAQs

"16. What are hoarders?
People who buy multiple copies of a cheap game in order to a) resell at a higher price or b) trade in to Blockbuster/EB because they give higher TIVs. Depending on whom you ask, it's either "good business" or "worse than eating babies."

I guess I fall into the "Good business camp" and some of you fall into the "worse than eating babies" camp. To each their own I suppose.

I guess you did well on the preorders (though using Rogue Galaxy wasn't cool), but spending $110 cash on $175 eb credit isn't that great, $110 cash will get you further elsewhere.

Ya, I still have to pre-order a few games this year (Rock band 2 - SW, Gears 2, Resistance 2, get some MS Points for Braid, Castle Crashers, Bionic Commando). I figure this coupled with the $100 I had from trading in about 6 of my own games I will be set for the year :)
What's with the elitism?
On CAG we lean towards the "leave stuff for others or buy it to sell to your friends/cags/other gamers at cost" camp. RFD is more of a hoarding community. We don't really appreciate people boasting how they robbed someone else of a deal. That's not why we share them here.

I mean, I have no problem with someone buying Dogz 2 and trading it in at EB but when people are buying games that other people would love to get at the prices they're at, then it's kinda crappy.
how much did u get for rogue galaxy at eb?
It is an $8 Trade in, but I used the trade 3 deal.

Well, since I'm new I understand why you go and do those deals, but feel the same for members. Though I think you did give a fair warning, you did your research and in the end its up to you. Hell, in all honestly if I had that time I would've done the same thing. Though stop at your second rummaging of deals.

The bolded, red part is what I plan on NOT doing anymore, especially since I have an assload of competition for deals around here now. It's not the other CAGs I have the problem with though, it's the douchebag flea market fucknut who cleans out the whole store of good shit and leaves nothing.

I hate to say it, but I may actually be partially responsible for them knowing about the deals, since I may have in some off chance mentioned CAG to them. :whistle2:# So basically, I'm pissed at myself because I think I fucked myself(and others) out of deals.

First rule of CheapAssGamer! Don't tell anyone about CheapAssGamer!

Second rule of CheapAssGamer! Don't post threads in the wrong forum!

Third rule of CheapAssGamer! Don't forget the first and second rules!

;)

In all seriousness, every time I tell someone about CAG they think it's a cheap gay porn site.

LOL Every time I tell someone about it, they mostly act like they don't give a crap.

I was foolish to let one of the local resellers know about this site, since now I(and everyone else around here) are paying for it. So now if anyone asks how I know something is gonna come up cheap, I say 'internet' when they ask where I found out.
You should just go make him "mysteriously disapear"
If he's bad with computers, go to his house, and set the parental controls to block cag, slickdeals, fatwallet, and any other deals site. XD

I always tell people my brother works at the store in another area far away and told me about the deal. It explains how I know so much about prices and clearance stuff. Never get questioned, matter of fact, at one of the BB in my area, I am refered to as the guy whose brother works for BB on the West Coast, lol.

I think what you did is perfectly fine and in the real world of business am I going to buy say 3 out of 5 lake lots that are suppose to gain a 25,000 dollar value in the next year def not its not smart for me to do.

You played it well good job!

And here I thought this website was about cheap games, not helping out random internet strangers...

And since I like to rub salt in the wound, a Toys R Us was going out of business near me, a friend and I bought over 100 copies of Elite Beat Agents for a 1.00 each...

This type of all-or-nothing mentality bothers the hell out of me. There's a big difference between someone buying a few copies to flip during a sale and some fucker who clears out whole stores of stuff on a regular basis.

Yes, both tactics are annoying to folks who are of the "leave stuff for others" (which I agree with for the most part), but one is much worse than the other. Personally, I'd rather save my ire for the fucker that uses flips to fuel a long term business and has no interest in video games than someone who puts the extra money back into buying more games.

Now this is the mentality that bothers the hell out of ME. What about the "fuckers" that flip to fuel a long term business but DO have interest in games and play on a regular basis? Is that ok or is that wrong too?

Seems as if people assume that anyone that flips to fuel a regular income have no interest in games, while on the other hand I agree with you sort of, I despise seeing 50+ year old men at pawn shops buying anything with the word "Mario" or "Zelda" in it, not only because they are competition for me, but mainly because they have no interest in the games whatsoever.

Not that it matters to anyone, as my kind is automatically disliked around here, but I used to collect games and amassed a 3000+ game collection at one time while I owned a jewelry store that I absolutely despised but bought because the opportunity was there and it seemed like the right thing to do at the time. After 5 years of that shit I closed it, began selling my collection, and started buying more to resell and now do it for a living and I actually enjoy working and enjoy my life again. If that pisses some of you people off, then so be it, I feel that I earned the right to do what I do for a living and it bothers the hell out of me that certain self righteous bastards on this forum feel the need to berate me because I buy "more than one copy and don't help the community whaaaa".

Get over yourself.

Sounds like you're just looking for a reason to be offended instead of reading what I'm saying. I specifically mentioned people who don't care about what they're selling. Just because I didn't quantify it in the same sentence does not mean that the two ideas (fuckers who flip for income and fuckers who don't care) are mutually exclusive.

However, it's late where I am and I may have tripped over my own tongue at one point, so if that's the case, I'll take it as my bad.

EDIT: Er, wait. I re-read my comment and I did say both things in the same sentence. Ha!

My comments weren't directly aimed at you honestly, it was more directed towards others who tend to be more verbal about their dislike of what people like me do, so I didn't really mean to come off as an ass toward you in general. Sorry about that!

Hey, no harm, no foul. I can see why you're defensive; some folks here like to fire first and ask questions later.
