Hey all....

Anyone know of any good deals on art sets?
I'm mostly interested in wide variety of pencils and markers.

Also, could someone recommend some of the better brands?

I've seen art sets that are dirt cheap, but the quality of the materials is probably crap.

Depends on what you want and what you're gon to use them for. I've never seen any "art sets" unless they are for kids things. I'd say goto to your art store to ask them questions. If you don't have an art store, goto a arts and crafts store, more general, but they do have a lot of stuff. The empoyees probably won't have as much knowledge, but look at the products and try them out for yourself.

Great store, great prices, especially when on sale.
Just a warning, I would avoid going with their actual 'Dick Blick' brand items, such as their temperas and such, since that's a decent version of tempera paint, good for say, high school (where you'd normally see their brand) but can have it's uses.

If you can list some specific types of supplies you need I could inform you of some of the better brands, or cheaper brands, depending on what you want.

I am an art major and simply have too many art supplies if you are interested i have a completely unused set of these Prismacolor pencils, chalks, watercolor pencils in the cherrywood case. http://www.dickblick.com/zz220/47/

Prismacolor is the top brand for colored pencils and the like, i simply have too many already and this was a gift. If this will serve your purpose, I will hook you up for cheap. Let me know.

it is the set of 96 in the cherry wood box and it usually retails including shipping (i have never seen it in a store) for over $100 dollars sometimes $150 so i guess becuase it has never been used i could give it to you for $90-95 shipped? let me know how that sounds.

Thanks for the offer, but that's probably a bit much for me.

I'm really just getting into it.
I would say my drawing talent is somewhere between "above average" and "no where near professional". I was "this close" to becoming an art major in college, but decided to go with the sure money and got a BSEE. I'm just trying to get a few books, some halfway decent supplies, etc. If I stick with it, and get better, maybe I'll go for the more expensive stuff.

Thanks for the link though....I'll have to check it out.

For my freshman architecture studio in college, our school issued art kit included Derwent Artists' Colored Pencils. It was a great beginner to intermediate set... much better than the colored pencils I used in high school. Most of my classmates enjoyed using them as well, however, most of the upperclassmen used Prismacolor.

I switched majors, and I haven't used it in 3 years. None of the pencils in my 36 pencil set were used past their initial sharpening except for "Ivory Black", which probably has 5-10% used. I'd sell it for $25 shipped. It's here: http://www.artsupply.com/derwent/pencilsets.htm, http://www.cheapjoes.com/art-supply/DW32096_8484_derwent-artists-colored-pencils-set.asp, and http://store.artcity.com/drawing---illustration-colored-pencils-derwent-artists-pencil-sets.html. PM me if you're interested.

Good luck with your art, hope you find some supplies that suit your needs!

If anyone else is interested in the art set i would be willing to part with it for $90.00 OBO.
