Just got an email stating that from 09/11 to 09/18 Defiance physical version for PS3 and 360 will be 50% off at Gamestop:

http://www.gamestop.com/collection/defiance

That should mean $9.99 for a new copy.

Says prices good online and in store, doesn't say if used copies are included.

You also get:

AN GET FREE RIFT® LOOT WITH YOUR PURCHASE

So does anyone know how we're supposed to get our Rift bonuses? There was no code or anything on my receipt, and the guy at the store hadn't heard anything about it at all. He even tried calling two other stores after I showed him the OP. None of them heard anything.

I picked up two copies of Defiance and didn't receive any Rift swag either.
Sorry guys:

Go there to learn how to get it.

Adding link to the OP now.

Thanks.  Darn, I was hoping it was just a code...  I don't have Rift, but a friend does, and I was going to pass the code off to her.  :S  Ah well.

who said it'd be $19.99 at 50% off? The above poster was referring to the collectors edition being $19.99 at 50% off. The vanilla version should be $9.99
I was stating that I went to the site and it was still sitting at $19.99, it did not change price right away... so thats why I said if it was $19.99 at 50% off that was BS... and that was the vanilla copy I was talking about

This game is really fun. There are no monthly fees. The cash store mainly sells cosmetic things like outfits and weapon colors. There is no need to spend real cash to do well in the game. You can co-op everything with three other friends, or just play it solo. You can also form or join a clan. There are certain events where a hundred players will show up to kill a big enemy or several waves of tough enemies. Finding rare weapons, leveling the weapons up, and upgrading the weapons with weapon mods like stocks, barrels, magazines, and scopes is addictive. You can also buy and collect different vehicles and level up your skill by driving them a lot.

There are also separate co-op maps, and there is PvP as well. There are daily and weekly challenges to earn reputation with different factions in the game. Earning reputation will give you special currency that allows you to purchase special weapons, shields, grenades, and titles.

The game has a generic sci-fi feel to it, but there's nothing wrong with that. There a hiccups with the servers and occasional disconnects and occasional lag, which is true of any MMO. There is no monthly fee to play. The season pass costs $40, and so far only the first DLC has been released, which added an area where you can fight to earn rep to buy charge blades (an energy sword melee weapon).

After you beat the main game, you can replay all the main missions again.

Note that the game is completely server-dependent (even the main missions), so no internet = no play.
Have you ever considered writing game reviews? Seriously, one of the more concise and well written blurbs about a game I've seen on CAG.

I'm thinking $10 is the right price for me to bite on this. I'll probably try and price match at Best Buy.

Eh holding off on this unless I happen to be around a GS store in the next few days as after tax and their cheapest shipping it's only 3 bucks cheaper than what Amazon is asking for it.

Game is fun for a while. Has a really weird level system. Got bored with it around what seemed like halfway thru the main story, very repetitive. Also, Challenge Races were bugged where it displayed a certain time, but recorded it as another. Dunno if that was fixed, but it was really bothersome.

Well picked it up yesterday and finally started to play today on the PS3 after and hour and a half of downloading patches.

Seems fun so far. You can see the jank in the game in several parts but nothing gamebreaking yet.

Still, this being my first MMO I am confused about basic functions which the game seems to not fully explain well. I am having a difficult time acquiring loot and having the game display which one is better. In addition I seem to be stumbling into areas of the map that are very difficult for me. Not sure if these areas are for higher level players of areas that require multiple players to beat. Again, to me the game does not clarify these aspects of the game clearly enough.

Anyway, if anyone wants to join me on the PS3 my screenname is: Neorub.

So I decided to pick this up today but now I am wondering if I really want to deal with the updating issues this game seems to have.  Anyone who has this for the 360 find the patching a real problem?

OH MY GOSH DOES THE PATCHING SUCK ON THE 360! I don't know what it is like on PS3/PC or in the late hours of the day/night, but I am currently getting under 3Mbps. My internet is not the fastest out there 350Mbps, but I am literally getting less than 1% of my normal bandwith for these patches. It's disgusting.

With my experience most MMOs have pretty slow DL speeds for patching and they all require a crapload of patching so it tends to be a big annoyance.

The initial patch on the 360 was difficult because it took several attempts and several hours. The subsequent patches have been smooth sailing for me.

Slow is one thing, but this is disgusting. I stopped for now so I can actually play a game and will resume when I head to bed to let it finish.
