Ya know that clusterfuck g4 puts on every year? Well, this year, it was a little different. Usually, it's a big-ass award show with musicians, post-show, celebrities, and all that other (expensive) bullshit. Well, this year, the show was an hour long and was a parody of a cable news show on election night. It was hosted by Adam and Morgan, featured many of the people who work on X-Play, and was essentially an extended episode of that show. It was also on at 6 pm.

So yeah, it was painfully obvious that g4 is strapped for cash and falling fast. Just thought I'd point it out.

The gods smiled upon me a few months ago, and took G4 off my cable listings. Sorta sucks this is the only thing I cared for on G4. Only so I could hopefully see the great games get their due even if they didn't sell well.

Sounds vastly better than the previous format. It comes on in about 40 minutes here, so I guess I'll have the RePlay pull it in so I can skip the ads. Fortunately the scheduled Adult Swim item can be caught again a few hours later.

Die G4, Die!

Seriously, I loved that station back when it was serious about gaming. Well, Ok maybe it was never serious about gaming, but at least it was mostly gaming nerd humor(the late night 80's arcade gameshow is about as dorky as you can get). Nowadays every time I turn it on it is some famous athlete or porn star talking about nothing even slightly related to gaming.

Plus they killed TechTV. Before bastardizing everything from that channel.

So...Die g4, die!

Meh G4 is kinda bad now. I do wacth shows on there. But judging how the crappy show last year had everything. and this year was in a office with 4th of July decorations. Does show how much money they have.

I used to watch G4 all the time but they removed all my favorite shows so the only thing I watch on their network now is electric playground and xplay now and then. I still flip to the channel now and then to see whats on but whenever I do there is nothing related to gaming on so I turn the channel very quickly. Judgement day was my favorite show on G4 but it's no more.

you mean start trek, as it feels like all they show is star trek....

Dude, quit lying. They show Fastlane and the Man Show all the time too!

Fun tidbit: According to Business Week Kevin Rose, the guy who left G4 about a year ago, has made $60 million in the last 16 months. I would wager a lot of money that he's more successful than g4.

WoW! Got a link to that? Good for him!

The GPhoria thing sucked this year. I guess the gaming awards show is another thing that G4 is going to let SPIKE do better than them

There was one hilarious part tho, they had a tribute to controller cords and that was funny. People tripping over the cords, and pulling the console off the shelf, choking your opponent with the cord, etc...

It was 18 months. Woops.

One positive was that Morgan Webb looked very nice.

Kevin is on this weeks TWIT talking about how a lot of the story in business week is incorrect, including how much money he is worth. He comes off as being very humble for the most part.

As far as gphoria, that controller cord thing had me lmao. Its worth just checking that segment out.

Yeah, I imagine he'd be humble and not wanting to talk too much about it. But still, he's probably way more successful than g4.

He was pretty good on The Screen Savers back in the day so kudos to him. I have to wonder though if Sarah Lane (the GF in the article and former TSS host as well) is now kicking herself for dumping him to marry another G4 personality. :)

kevin rose was the weakest link on the screen savers, what happened to the old hosts of the screen savers? I heard leo was doing call for help still. I don't have cable, but the last time I saw G4 it was unwatchable. I assume their viewer base is in the 10 - 14 year old range, but I don't really need to assume that because I can just pop into their forums and see that for myself.

TechTV had alot of informative, intelligent and interesting programing, Whereas G4 is all glitz, ditz and lacks any substance at all. Worthless, mind-rotting television at its worst. I can just imagine the suits behind G4s worthless programming decisions in their invalid focus-groups trying to figure out what would be "hip" and "eye-catching" to have all of their "hot" fresh-faced hosts say and do.

Where is my NerdNation, Call for Help, or even UNscrewed. They removed everything that was TechTv and turned it into a extra cheapo version of FOX.

Not one thing on G4 Network is worth watching. Hey guess what not one thing on cable is worth watching or Telivision itself. I could just hook up a powerful atnenna/Dish to my computers TV Tuner and hope for the best.

G4 itself sunk a new low in Telivision. They took a channel that was worth watching and turned it into the Extra StereoType Dorkus Lorkish Network.

If I had some High Grade Cameras and some networking video programs I would run a show live from my personal quarters for free that would be better then any G4 show on air to this date.

If G4 is on your current cable Bill get rid of the package or channel. G4 is not worth the waste of time or money.

holy shit so that was the actual gphoria show? i saw it and thought it was one of those preview dealys they do to advertise some of the game they would be voting on. if that was the real show then damn they have pretty much died down on the game side of things. i dont think they did it like that so much that they didnt have the money as much as they arent really a gaming network anymore. i wouldnt be surprised if within this year or the next all gaming shows will dissappear from the network alltogether. im still pissed they got rid of judgement day that was a cool review show.

btw thats a hell of an article and now i see why he and sarah broke up because of the gamble he took and not buying a house. man now she must reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeealy feel stupid. im rich beatch!!!!!!!!!!

Many of the old TechTV people, including Leo, Patrick, Kevin, and Dvorak do the This Week in Tech podcast. I'd put good money on them getting more listeners per episode than AOTS does in an entire week.

If you read the article you'll find the title is very misleading. Digg.com hasn't made a penny yet.

"So far, Digg is breaking even on an estimated $3 million annually in revenues."

There has been a lot of capital investment but that is not the same thing. It's business as usual in the dot.bomb world.

Considering how hugely successful the site has been, it's only a matter of time before they start seeing a profit. I mean, they're breaking even, which is a lot better than many of these Web 2.0 companies.

Which is no guarantee of anything. The site may lose its appeal and become yesterday's news without ever making Rose actually rich. Somebody else could become the trendy thing of the moment and pageviews could go through the floor.

The real payoff for people in the web business has been IPOs. But to cash in in a big way he would have to give up controlling interest in the company. So it's either bide his time and have it never turn out to be a serious money make or sell out and let it be someone else's problem while always garnering the accolades for the early buzz.

The smartest people in the web business planeed early on to cash in at the earliest opportunity. Then, while still making a fat salary, you're set for life regardless of how things go. If Rose isn't careful he could end up with nothing like a lot of others did who placed too high a value on owning their site without a serious net revenue stream.

From wikipedia:

On August, 29 2005, following months of public outcry, G4 (which, as part of its licensing agreement with Rogers Media, held the right of first refusal) began airing the show in the United States. The program started out airing at 11am ET Monday-Friday. However, in December 2005, G4 "shelved" Call For Help indefinitely, meaning that the show was acknowledged in the network's programming lineup, but not actually scheduled to air. This happened a month after G4 moved the show to its earliest and least-viewed time slot, 9am ET weekdays. On December 17, 2005, Leo Laporte announced on his KFI Los Angeles radio show that G4 was dropping Call For Help from its lineup at the end of 2005. On January 3, 2006, Call For Help aired for the final time on G4.

To me it only feels like a fading memory, very much like when FX used to have live programming for about 60-75% of the broadcast day. I'm sure no one remembers that...

i remember Fx back when it used to be live. that was the best channel on tv at that time. i think theyre the reason why so many tv channels started doing live show out in the open with the windows where peopel could see in. but back then FX was the only one doing it and it was awesome to see. they had that morning show breakfast time , and i remember a show called personal fx where they would appraise items live and a music show called sound fx.

the hostess of pesrsonal fx was hott but if i recall she got fired or left or something rather uncermoniously and i always wondered what happened. alot of people got their start on that channel and those shows. i remember tom bergeron the host of americans funniest home videos hosted breakfast time and he was pretty funny back then and they had this funny puppet nambed bob and a hott little number named laurie who funny enough marrier michael gellman the guy who runs the regis and kelly show. as i recall she had this crazy hate for the puppet for some reason.

and that annoying black guy from mad tv was part of sound fx orlando something or another.

Have any of you caught that new show, Gamer.TV? It's on Starz which is odd since they have no other original programming that I know of. Anyway this show is pretty good, at least a lot better than what's on G4. The only irritating thing about Gamer.TV is that the narration is clearly written by a Brit but the voice-over is done by an American - very distracting.
