Did anyone just watch Lawrence O'Donnell on Morning Joe?

Dude just went off on Marc Thiessen for a few minutes on Bush and 9/11. Kind of cool to watch, but on the other hand, it's annoying when BillO shouts down interview subjects, and Larry has done this more than once. O'Donnell was a bit more factual than ORly usually is, however. Ultimately, his emotional outburst is going to negatively paint his argument that Bush's intelligence and foreign policies weren't very bright.

Anyway, this will be talked about on Fox News for weeks, probably.

I don't have a link, unfortunately. One will likely be up sometime today.

EDIT: Here is a (poor quality) video:

John Yoo who helped write the torture memos argues in his book that the President should be given extra powers during a time of war.

I like NPR a lot. But they definitely need to be more hard hitting. Here's my example. Yoo was on All Things Considered recently. He made the same argument he presents in his book, the Prez should be given extra powers during wartime. here's the exchange:

BRAND (NPR): But when we were looking at what is commonly called the war on terrorism, it's often seen as an unending war. And so, how do these powers get put back in the bottle if you have an unending war?

Prof. YOO: I share your concerns. And the hard thing is how do we figure out when the war against al-Qaida, the war with other terrorist groups is going to be over, when they're not a nation state. There's no territory to conquer. There's no armies to fight in the field. How do we know when the war is over? I think that's a very fair and difficult question because it's that point when the president's powers will recede.

That's such a lawyer answer, which is to say it is a non-answer. Why the hell wouldn't you follow up on that? A guy who authorizes torture argues that the President should be given extra powers as long as we are in war time, perhaps indefinitely.

You can't even call this shit a war. Why? Wars end.

side note:

i was cleaning out one of my junk drawers (my wife says 2 is 2 too many, but what do women know) and i found a couple of old packs of gum. they taste brand new.

Also humorous is the fact that the argument for not declaring war was that the president acquired vast new powers during war time; so declarations of war were rejected. Doublespeak at its finest.

so... you're liking that lawrence guy right now? wtf is wrong with you man

i don't really recognize your sn so you might not know me either: i'm a flaming liberal. like, socialize all the banks & medicine & science, make marriage same-sex-only, send tofu instead of bombs to the middle east, etc, super liberal -- okay, but even so, fuck that lawrence dude. just disrespectful. i dunno who he is, but he really just started yelling for no reason, he got so caught up in his own thoughts, you don't invite someone on your show to interview on national tv and just start bad-mouthing them. if he held his cool and brought up the same points, gave the other dude a chance to respond, remained cordial, fine... but what he did in that was pretty fucking douchey, and really, thiessen came out of that looking like the more reasonable (-->rational) person there.

joe did the right thing by putting that douche in timeout, removing him from the show, people who can't control their emotions with guests deserve no place in journalism, esp live TV journalism. he was disgraceful.
I'm really shocked by this. I didn't know MSNBC was actually still on the air.
That's more than just bullshit, it's dangerous...as we saw when Yoo was in a position to actually affect policy (for the worse).

I slammed through this post about thirty seconds after I saw it live, as I wasn't quite sure what I had just seen. Almost as if it were a sports highlight play or something.

I know he's MSNBC's Bill O'Reilly. I don't dig him, for reasons other than not being socialist. I can appreciate his willingness to challenge somebody, however. Even if he went way overboard.

You think that is how to challenge someone? You let your emotions get the best of you, and just start saying everything that you inferred from a few comments someone made as if they were what they really said, and don't let them respond?

A great analogy would be this:

Say LeBron James drove to the basket with reckless abandon in an effort to make a last second shot to the win the game, but ran over a defender and was called for an offensive foul. I would be able to appreciate his decision to make that move while also criticizing him for flying out of control.
