I checked my email it said it autorenewed my gold membership but I have no paypal or valid credit card attached. To try it out I even tried to buy points and it told me I have no valid credit card attached. Teh fuck?

the only way u can cancel a recurring membership is by calling microsoft and cancelling, odds are you were charged on the credit card u used originally

The only CC I have on my name is an expired one I closed almost a year ago. It even expired two months ago.

i don't think its correlated to the one u actually have linked to your xbox, although im not sure, but i doubt microsoft would just give it to you for free, either they charged the card u originally had, and the automated system didn't catch onto it yet, or there was a mistake made that they will catch on to, if you aren't worried about being charged on an expired card which you think down the road if the bill ever caught up with you that you might be able to dispute, i say rock on and ride it out, otherwise i would just leave it alone and see if it fixes itself or you truely slipped through the cracks, but i think its just a mistake, or the old CC you used was charged and it hasn't been corrected yet

But you signed up for a SUBSCRIPTION and you didn't CANCEL. So Microsoft just auto renews your subscription, you know, like you agreed to when you clicked on the "I have read and agree to these terms" button to create your Xbox Live account.

When Microsoft can't collect their money, they just turn it over to a collections agency.

Guess I'm going to court.

On the left, I believe there is an "Edit Payment Options" link. You can see what credit cards they have on file for you there.[/QUOTE]
Yup just checked they only have my expired CC

not really gonna end up in court, just if you don't pay it will affect your credit in the long run, which really isn't worth it over an XBL subscription

This happened to my girlfriend. If the card is expired, they will find out that it's expired once the CC company is like "yo, this card is expired dawg" -- and Microsoft will suspend your account until you pay, or put in a Gold subscription card. You will not be changed to Silver until you do so, or until 60 days pass.

My girlfriend had 3 expired cards on her account. Her subscription ended Jan 1st. They tried all 3 cards, none worked. They emailed her saying she needed to do what I said above. When we tried to sign on her account (thinking she was just downgraded to Silver automatically) it would not let her sign on AT ALL. The prompt said she would need to input a valid CC or subscription code.

We did neither, since we had my account to play on. She got an email the other day stating that since the attempts to charge those cards failed, she would be downgraded to Silver "so she could still enjoy Xbox Live, but to enjoy it the most you should upgrade to Gold!" blah blah

Just so you know, if a credit card has a certain expiration date it doesn't necessarily expire on that date. I was charged on amazon for a refund I had to give to a seller for an item I sold (long story) and they ended up just charging the *expired* credit card I had on file with them. I just ignored that card since I assumed it was expired and I had to eat nearly $200 in late fees when I got a call from the collection agency saying I had unpaid bills on that card. I wasn't aware since I signed up for e-statements/paperless billing and I closed down my online account immediately when my card expired. With no way of accessing the card's account online I had no way of knowing.

TL:DR version, your card doesn't necessarily expire on the date that is stated. It can still accrue charges depending on the company's policy.

Exactly. This was brought up in the whole ECA debacle, and something similar happened with me similar to muhsheesuh's story, with a Capital One card, which is why I said I hate them in the other thread about credit cards.

I closed my card on my account over a year ago if they have some way to re-active a dead card that has expired and still charge it they are truly magical beings.

You just don't get it, do you? Reread what we have told you.

MS doesn't care that your card is no longer active or valid. They will try to charge it regardless and still hold you responsible for the charges (happened to me on 2 account that I called and canceled, but they still charged me for anyway. I ended up paying the $$ but have since removed ALL CC info on my Xbox because MS are a bunch of whores

FYI, if you wait too long after you expire the only way they will let you renew is through a CC. I guess then you can purchase one month and then use the card. This happened once to me a long time ago. good luck

happened to a friend of mine too and he got 12 months free. it's their fault, not yours. they cannot leave it to affect your credit in any way unless there is a contractual agreement. I don't think they'd be sending you billing statements, letters for collection or anything. someone on their end messed up so enjoy it while you can.

This happened to someone I know last month. They WILL charge whatever card they have info for, regardless of whether it's expired or closed. Depending on your card company's policy, they might reopen that account just so MS can charge it.
