What's the difference between the PS2 unit included in the plain console package and the one packaged in the Online Pack (with a Network Adapter and ATV Offroad Fury 2)? There's gotta be a catch here (some deficiency with the Online Pack version that they're making up for with the extra stuff) because they're both $149.99!

There is no difference. Both the plain PS2 box and the Online Pack have the SCPH-50001 model PS2 unit inside there. Sony simply lowered the price on the Online Pack to that of the regular PS2 system to blow out inventory as they aren't making that bundle anymore.

I bought the ...50001 Online Pack! (The BB guy said they had sold out of lower UPC #s a while ago) Thanks guys!

I had heard a while back that the model packed into the Online pack doesn't have the system link port. I've never confirmed that, though.

The newer sytems (with a yellow +) dropped the link port. Did anyone EVER use it? Ive never heard of a single persn that has.

However, the + PS2's did had the IR port, faster system, quiter fan, progressive scan DVD... So dropping something 1/100 people used was a good trade.

Hell yes! Since those bastards at Agetec always remove the online features from their localizations of the Armored Core games (Armored Core 2: Another Age, Armored Core 3, and Silent Line: Armored Core all had online gameplay in Japan), playing head to head via the iLink port was pretty much the only way to go as split-screen on one system simply cut down way too much of your view to be playable. Gran Turismo 3 was also a blast when using the iLink to hook up two systems together.

The '+' PS2's do not have a "faster system." They run the games at the same speed as any PS2 model made.

so, you're the 1 out the 100 to actually use it. I'd thought I'd live to be a 150 before meeting one of you folks :)

I heard the one in the online pack steals things from your house when you're asleep and mails them to Sony. Could be just a rumor though.
