I am moving out to an area where there is no cable, so I have to go with a satellite provider. I don't know which one of these two to go with though. Which one will give me the best overall price and service? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also, DSL should be enough for me to get on Xbox Live, right?

I looked at both pretty extensively last year. Dish Network seems to be cheaper overall per month, and I know people that have it and like it a lot. I went with Direct TV because of the NFL Sunday Package deal that they were running at the time. Satellite is very competitively priced as long as you don't want to hook up a lot of your TVs in other rooms. Its 5 bucks per additional TV, which can add up.

I think both are fine services, but you have to ask yourself what types of programs that you are interested in. If you have an HDTV, both companies offer different HD packages that appeal to different people.

I hope this helps.

I had DirectTV a couple years ago and switched to Dish Network. I'm getting more from Dish for the same price than what I was paying for DirectTV. I've been happy with Dish overall and would recommend it.

i used to have dish network, but then i switched to directv for the premium package (all channels for like $90 a month). i noticed that in bad weather, dish network is better at holding a a connection than directv, which i usually have to turn off when theres a severe thunderstorm/snowstorm. Even light amounts of rain affect it sometimes. could be just me tho

Dish network owns directtv, with the exception of NFL sunday ticket. Picture quality is better (SD and HD), equipment is better (with the exception of the Dtv Tivo units which are now discontinued), and they wipe the floor on HD (30+ hd channles compaired to Dtv's 12, and 11 of Dishs' channles are exclusives you will get nowhere else).

BTW, Ive got a gift certificate (2 actually) for Dish that will get you a free DVR or HD box, install, $100 bill credit, and free Starz pack. PM me if you are interested.

EDIT-only one GC left. Ill have 2 more after the 1st of August, though. If interested, PM me.

ive had dish for 2 years but I have never had direct-tv... I don't have a good impression of it from what people have told me, plus the contect provided on Dish seems to be overall better... they are even getting On Demand programming working!

If you're going into verizon territory, there's a package that does Phone, DSL, and DirecTV. I've had DTV for just under 8 years, and never had any issues except when heavy wet snow stuck on the LNB.

You could always save up some extra money and get one of those 15+ footer dishes. No idea who uses those (company wise), but hey, you may be able to pick up shit from Siberia lol.

That is if you have the room

Galeon: WTF is FTA?

At the moment, I seem to be leaning towards Dish Network...

FTA is free to air, you can get lots of variety of channels legally (don't think comedy central, hbo or regular channels its more like bizzare syndication feeds, international channels, network repeaters), and opprotunities to subscribe to the regular channels.

Its great for screwing around as a hobbu, but you need to align your dish if you plan on chasing channels.

FTA= Free-To-Air
Basically You buy a FTA reciever, and dish, then point it to the Satelite you want to recieve.

My brother installs for Direct in Cali. They are going to be rolling out some sweet ass stuff for HD subscribers in the next little bit... Full HD, zoom in on plays during sports etc.

But I have Dish Network. It holds up well in storms etc. Its cheaper in our area but the HD channels vary from one company tot he next so check out both brands and see what package suits you better. I also have a certificate for a free month credit on your bill etc.

how bout rabbit ears?
j/k
directv is a bit better but not by much as long as you get the complete package...if your getting just the basic package...get directv for sure...

They fucking better, seeing as how they wanted me to pay $500 for a goddamned HD box with Tivo, and not only would that NOT cover the cost of tivo per month, or any HD package per month, but that is a nonrefundable LEASE cost, so I would be paying $500 to borrow the fucking thing from them. I have never told a CSR to go fuck themselves in my life, up until that point.

Well with FTA depending on the dish you CAN get some nice free channels out of the deal. I know if you have a C-Band sized dish you can pick up ImaginAsian FTA and they have some cool shit, like new Anime and it's subbed as well as some good Korean Dramas.

I'll vote for DirecTV, but only because my parents have it and they never have complained.

However, my vote goes to neither and just get rabbit ears. There are only 2, maybe 3 cable channels I would watch: ESPN, Cartoon Network, and (I can't even think of a third right now)... Everything I watch is on the local basics I can get for free with an antenna.

My Dish network service is great. 180 channels 54.99 a month, free loaner 80hr DVR, free dual-tv setup (one wireless), dual recording plus recorded show viewing all simultaneously; gotta love it.
