Game Features:
 • Real racing with real consequences. Stay in control or watch as your car dramatically crashes into a barrier and barrel-rolls, crushing every panel and spewing debris across the track.
 • A wide variety of off-road and rally disciplines to experience: Rally, Hill Climb, Rally RAID, Rally Cross, the CORR desert series, and more.
 • Photorealistic tracks painstakingly recreated from real-world location photography and satellite data.
 • Incredibly detailed models of 46 licensed vehicles bring the action to life.
 • Online play for intense multiplayer competition
"We think the demo is really going to wow a lot of people. It’ll have a Super Stage crossover rally with Colin as your opponent, it’s got buggy racing against 9 opponents which is absolute carnage and really shows off the car models, and then we have a hill climb with fantastic scenery and a Travis Pastrana time to beat. It’s a great little package and it’s out on May 24."

Never really tried the offroad rally racing games, I'll give it a shot, but most likely I'll suck just as bad as Forza 2.

That...is awesome! While this game seems to lack traditional multiplayer, and that will likely be the reason i won't buy it initially ($60...hard to blow on just one game), i will get this eventually.

I think they took the info from this site which has the following at the bottom of the story, which no one else seems to have copied over.

The Colin McRae Dirt demo will be available for download for all Xbox Live Gold members in Europe on Thursday at 9am GMT.

Although Xbox360fanboy.com says it will be on the US marketplace also, if not hopefully I can use my Euro account to snag it at 4 a.m. my time. :) All of the screens/videos I've seen look gorgeous, and even though I'm not a big racing fan I'm looking forward to trying this out. I did enjoy both of the Rallisport titles on the original Xbox.
I love rally racing games, can't wait for this one. Now where's Rallisport Challenge 3?
Don't you hate all those fuckers that never bought RSC2? Atleast when it dropped to $30 atleast, the sales were horrendous and It's my favorite racer on the XBox just over Burnout 3 and PGR2. Well this looks good, and I am going to give this demo a go. With Sega Rally and this we might be able to tide ourselves till DICE decides to give the green light on RSC3/whatever they want to call it.

Buying this day one. I love Codemasters, I love Rally racing/off-road games. Codemasters makes the best racing games. But for some reason us Americans don't ever take notice.

To tell the truth, I picked up RSC2 when it was clearanced out at $10. :whistle2:# But hey, it got me into rally racing games, and if RSC3 comes out, I'll buy it day 1 at full price. :D

Can't wait for this demo!

Of course I won't believe its available until I can actually push the download now button. XBL has fooled me too many times with X product will be avilable to download on such and such date.

I would love to see what Codemasters could do with the Nascar license...perhaps EA would get off their asses and turn out a good product for once.

Here's some gameplay footage for those who haven't seen it in action

Looks fucking amazing!

I love rally games! This is definitely a title I'm anxiously awaiting. If it plays as well as it looks, it's going to be fantastic! Here's hoping for a demo tomorrow.....
I can't fucking wait for this Demo! This will own everything! even F2... yes, F2.
Not that hard when in F2 (the demo at least) you could ram the wall at 180 and easily drive away :p DiRT and Race Driver One are going to be great, treats for any racing fans.

Haven't checked yet but according to a few posts at xbox.com it's up now along with a "Fable 2 video diary thing (I think it is new)."

Some reports were saying that the download is really slow...i started my download at 10:35 am, and im at 69% as the clock turns 10:46 am.

Mixed bag on this one. The gameplay is pretty good, the controls seem a little loose (a bit looser than Burnout Revenge). Environment graphics are great, the car model graphics are good, first person mode is fantastic.. my only complaint is that it cuts the damage portion off. Whenever you fly off a cliff, it just kinda.. warps you back to the road. If you do enough damage, it ends the race. Like, literally, the second you hit an object and the car's had enough, the gameplay just STOPS and says "You were unable to finish the race".

There's also this annoying voice giving you a tutorial throughout the entire demo. He can be muted via the sound setup in the options menu.

//edit: It's so realistic that when I know I'm about to crash (especially in first person mode), my body tenses up and waits for the impact.. that's crazy

//edit2: Cool touch: Bushes actually bend over when you drive over the top of them. Bad touch: They only do this once and only in the direction you drive. If you back up over them, they bend back and stay back. If you drive forward, they go forward and stay forward.

Sounds like those complaints are fairly good :p I'm just glad the damage modeling in this is better than Forza 2...such a letdown that was.

Scorch, you're completely righgt about the controls, way too loose. One thing i discovered/came across in the demo, when you hit the railings (walls) they actually bend, dent, and move.

*Edit 1: the menu system is amazing. How can something so simple, have taken so long to come about? Its rereshing to see that Codemasters aren't just improving on the games core elements.

*Edit 2: i would really like to see them impliment the free camera with the right analog stick. And the gear up on A and gear down on X its...awkward. Either reverse those or map it to the bumpers. Tracks look amazing, as do the cars. The damage modeling is a blast. Tighten up the controls and this is a definite winner.

*Edit 3: when on a (any) menu screen, try moving the right analog stick ;)

*Edit 4: after crashing (something slightly major) or even a hard slam, it seems the drivers has to restart the car, or at least put it back in gear. Nice little touch that adds to the realism :)

I love this demo. I am getting this without question on release day. I don't feel the controls loose at all, except on the HillClimb course and that's just because of the sharp turns and loose dirt.

The time trial with the subaru course, the controls were very loose on that. I mean, yeah, we can adapt, but it would be nice to see them tightened up a bit.

The Crossover track? That one was fine with me, I only hit the wall twice and it was in the same spot both times. Those crossover tracks are super fun with friends over live. At least they were on Rallisport 2.

Controls are bad, impossible for me to do any kind of powerslide. The sounds are all annoying. The forced reset when going off track ruined it for me. I had heard such good things about the other McRae games, sadly this one isnt. I guess Im a person who Forza2 was the shit while this just doesnt do it.

You're right about the sound, there some pretty annoying sounds going on. That and the resets do kind of ruin the experience but you are supposed to go that far off the track to begin with. I was able to short cut in the buggy level and not get reset, but if I flew over a barrier then it would reset me. I do wish it would let you see more of the crashes but I'm sure I'll get over it.

I know nothing of the other Mcrae games personally since I haven't tried any.

I'm satisfied with the game game so far. We shold be able to race on dirt, asphalt, and snow, so it would be a blast. Powersliding was quite easy, you just have to hit B and turn the analog stick :p While the controls are a little loose for my taste, it was easily managable.

Wow is this game beautiful! The presentation is simply stunning. Travis is a tad bit annoying with his commentary (I don't really need someone to tell me to press the start button when the text appears on screen reading "Press Start"), but it's great they got him involved on the project.

I will also contend that the controls are still a bit loose. The cars just really don't feel heavy and solid (especially on the hill climb) and tend to oversteer instead of powerslide. I've played the hell out of the previous Colin games so I was expecting the cars to have a similar weight and feel and the just don't yet. Hopefully that'll be something that will be addressed before the game is released.

I so want to love this game, but I'm just not sold yet just from the nature of the wonky steering. They fix that and I'll buy it on day one.

You can actually map the buttons however you want in the demo through the options menu before you pick a car.

Just ran a quick race on the crossover track...it's pretty much as solid as I thought it would be (been playing this series since the ps1 version), and looks to be a worthy successor to the series.

I'm sure that the full version will allow "tuning" for those that think the cars handle too "loose". And ditto on the quality menus that people have already mentioned here.

I think this one's going to be a real barn-burner on live, and based on the demos, I'm now looking forward to this one more than forza (although I will get both on release day).

Completely awesome demo. A much better representation than what the Forza 2 demo gave. Controls were great. Feels exactly like the past McRae rally games. Even without tuning there's always the sense of chaotic control. Those damn buggies are damn near impossible to win in the cockpit view though. The wheels always get caught with the other and I'm out for a spin.

Graphically, quite impressive. Incredible work especially on the shrubs and greenery. I'm not too fond of the yellowish/sunset tint on everything. It's not quite as clean with the filter as Forza 2.

Just got done playing the demo. Forza 2 is in trouble just from a fun factor point of view. This is REALLY fun. Controls may be a bit loose but they are tunable. What is important is how much fun it is to throw the car around and really abuse it. You can really feel every aspect of it and before you crash or even hit a bump in the road you are bracing for it. Owns motorstorm and Sega Rally every which way. the dirt and mud on the car, scrapes etc are really realistic, understated but still nice. Graphics are probably best in any racing game for awhile (detail on the hill cimbs is phenomenal). This game has racing types you won't find anywhere else especially the buggies which are just too much fun. The damage modelling is top notch and doesn't just include the cars but every conceivable thing you could crash into. Menus are highly polished and very readable, no information overload at all.

For exotics? go with Test Drive Unlimited.

Yea I was looking for this on featured downloads, what not on featured downloads! I then found it with the new releases and I downloaded it, deleted F2 to make room on HDD, shut it off and went back to mowing the yard. Came back and I turned on my system and I was signed off of live?! I'm stuck at 94%!!!!! Yea I've been wanting to play this game from some time now and I hope it stomps motorstorm which I hear is just all muddy tracks and every track looks the same.

Edit: Did I mention I love the resume feature on the downloads! WAHooo

Excellent game. I highly recommend picking up the "Hardcore Mode" off of live.

Wow I had a lot of fun and it really reminded me of the RSC games. I got caught looking at the clouds on hillclimb and missed the turn! ^^ How come they kick you out of the demo after you play the three modes, thats annoying.

played it, loved it. I'm a huge rally racing fan also. It doesn't play to loose to me. It plays like every rally racing game. Hopefully they have sliders so you can adjust some things. Now only if rally racing would come back on tv here in the states.
Controls are bad, impossible for me to do any kind of powerslide.
Thats the biggest misconception about rally racing. It isn't about power sliding through turns. In all reality when a rally racer is on the track he tries to drive the straightest line possible. However Type B cars are big powersliders. What saddens me is that Rally racing is the best type of racing yet we're a country of NASCAR. Rally racing is on a Single lane country road. They race in the Rain, Snow, Mud, asphalt with fans feet away from the cars. The best part is they don't ever slow down. Theres no yellow flags, its balls to the wall from start to finish.
