DiRT - Gen. Disscussion & Info. - Demo Out Now
Wow I had a lot of fun and it really reminded me of the RSC games. I got caught looking at the clouds on hillclimb and missed the turn! ^^ How come they kick you out of the demo after you play the three modes, thats annoying.
I think they did specifically to track if people would go back in straight after. If someone is having fun with the game they want to keep playing. Its an easy honest barometer of how people feel about the game.

Sure beats Forza 2, play it once never play it again. Keep it on hard drive to show people how bad it is and compare it to DiRT ;)

What do you guys think of the AI? I haven't spent enough time with it yet to be able to say one way or the other; seems pretty standard so far.

My first impression was...

But, for some strange reason, after playing a few more races, I wasn't having quite as much fun. I think it might be that the AI really doesn't feel threatening or something... I dunno... I'm probably wrong.

I really don't want to buy 2 racing games, I may have to just pass on forza 2 and pick this up instead. I know they are 2 different games. But this is pretty good.

I was just gonna pass on dirt and wait/hope for a rallisport challenge 3, but this game is a lot more solid than I thought it would be.

Its going to take getting used to for some of the events when racing against the AI when they are on a different course or line than you most of the race. The buggy racing was fun, and on medium i found it about average in terms of difficulty. It took me 3 tries to beat the AI on medium with the Subaru. First time i wrecked so i was about 10 seconds behind, second time i was 2 seconds behind. Third time i won by 0.64 seconds :)

Don't forget Race Driver One next year ;) I can't wait, if its anything like DiRT in terms of graphics and gameplay...its going to be amazing.

Demo was pretty good...DEFINITELY better than the Forza 2 demo. Loading was awful though and I noticed glitches on respawns when I went off track (such as cars going in my car). But the crashes were cool and well done. I'm not a huge car-racing fan though, I like stuff like Burnout/Mario Kart more...

Overall not bad...but if theres no multiplayer (...think it didnt have any in this game at least), then I'd probably have just as much fun with Forza 2 since it DOES have multi and car editors.

Just wait when the game comes out and you can play the other difficulties your ass will be handed to you by the AI. Codemasters racing games are tough.

I just canceled my order for Forza 2, I still may pick it up pending review scores and online activity. Btu as of now I think I will just stick with Dirt for my racing needs.

I like it, but driving feels very unrealistic. There's no "weight" to the cars, especially on asphalt. What's up with that?

Still might buy it (along with Forza 2) since I'm a racing fan.

Surprisingly, if they make the controls a bit tighter, it would likely change the feeling during turns quite a bit. If the car doesn't swing uot as easily, problem solved :p

graystone - You say that rally isnt about powerslides but post a bunch of clips filled will rally powerslide turns. I fully understand that powersliding is not to be used on every turn but my problem with the sliding is you cannot correctly slide in hairpins, specifically in the evo on the hill climb. This is the way hairpins should be taken in rally. http://youtube.com/watch?v=XC08yEiCSaE
The way the controls are all you can do is handbrake and oversteer the car inside of the turn or slow down and take the corner normally.

I agree about the cars not having any "weight", each car should feel different, which they dont. That is the thing that makes forza2 for me, all the cars perform, handle and "feel" different, albeit some with very minor differences. This the buggy(rwd) didnt feel different than the wrx or evo(awd). The second driver seat cam is amazing though.

For the Subaru race/track, following the apex rule (wide entrance, accelerate through the turn and off to a wide exit) i was able to brake normally for most o the turns. Some were tight so i would hit the handbrake while still on the gas and slide through the turns, but overall it was easy to adapt to. Still enjoyable.
Played the demo. Hated it. Really boring and I HATE HATE HATE offroading games were you cannot go out of bounds.
um....its a rally game....you dont go "out of bounds" in rally racing....

nice nice nice, the game looks great on the 360 and runs smooth. Something about this and Forza aren't as appealing as PGR games though because of the locales. They're just basic race tracks rather than streets in the city. It's great that there's a cockpit view as well (something missing from Forza and Gran Turismo). The Handling seemed only ok though.

Yeah it's not Motorstorm dude, Rally Cross is a proper sport, not some made up thing.

I loved it, deffo be getting this one at some point. Codemasters come up with the goods once again, now get us some new Dizzy games !!!;)

It's pretty good, I probably won't pick it up right away, probably grab it when it hits $30 or something.

I'm a huge Forza fan, so that'll be occupying my time for a long while.

The videos ect. gave me the impression that it was an offroad furious racing game. Hmm, I guess I was under the wrong impressions.

It just annoys me that if you go off even the slightest of bits it turns gray and puts you back on. I was hoping to atleast be able to run into the metal diveders without it TPing me back.

I was sorta hoping for the old GT style of rally races. While I won't be picking this up, I have to give the developer credit for making a good demo. Not to mention if the interface/loading screens are the same ones used in the retail game, they did a fantastic job. Really breaks up the loads when you can watch the stats.

I don't know why people compare it to motorstorm, they're completely different. Personally I prefer motorstorm because I don't like overtechnical racers and motorstorm is just pure adrenaline good ol fun (abiet the lazy game content and taking forever to get patched proper). I just wish wheels worked on motorstorm.

I found an amazing video of the crash physics and graphics here.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UveF_5m2_88

It'll describe the sheer fun you can have with your car in this game. I spent awhile banging up my buggy just so I could drive around with wonky wheels and a busted frame, that's how much fun the physics are :D
Screw realism if it means ridiculous understeer and spinouts at 20mph on an even road in Forza :p Racing games should be ridiculously fast, addictive and balls to the wall and DiRT is a *RALLY* game :D

Wow, I finally played the demo today, and I loved it. I'll be picking this one up as soon as possible. And did anybody else think the menu was really, really cool? :D

You know Im not really into racers but I enjoyed this one tremendously. I loved how you could also flip the buggy. When I did that it was one of those whoa/wtf moments.

Great game

Finally got to play this... I guess it's not as much as a dissappointment as F2. The physics don't seem realistic that's for sure. The buggies are the most fun though.

Christ almighty this game controls like ass using the MS Wheel...its alot of fun though using the controller.

Yea the first time I flipped my buggy I was like holly shit, hahaha awesome! Can't get enough and I really can't wait for release now...

Wow this game exceeded my expectations. I will probably be picking this one up. I love the cockpit view, looks much more detailed than PGR3s. Gotta keep playing, be back with more comments!!
Hmmm, you guys acctually like this?
Have you watched even a little bit of rally racing? Not the "rally racing" presented in Gran Turismo either. This has been the representation of the sport thus far.

Anyone else like the graphics? They are decent, and the menu interface is great. You can even mess around with the loading by using the right analog stick.

Great DEMO. Considering there are a few loose ends, i would still buy this in its current form. It delivered literally hours of fun for me so far...and thats with 3 tracks and 3 vehicles. Can't wait for the full game, thoug hi may hold off and get Race Driver One since online will be MUCH better and i prefer sports car racing over rally, but man this demo was fun :p

Yep, edit #3 for my post on the first page i believe :p I also like that i can fit the walls and railings and they will bend outward :)

Yea I had the same reaction, what oh cool! when I hit the gaurdrail. It was sweet because I went over the jump and had the steering wheel cocked to the left so naturaly my car swung into the left guardrail. I love the cockpit view as well, the position is perfect. I hate it when games put the cockpit view on the roof of the car and I didn't know about changing things on the loading screen with the right analog stick. I'll boot it up and see!

yo this game is pretty damn good... reminds me of motorstorm

i agree the driver view is damn awesome..

so is this the game that ppl said would not have online play?

The guardrails bending don't really seem like a huge deal, but it adds a really visceral component to the crashes. Coupled with the incredible damage model, this has given me thus far the biggest feeling of dread going around every corners in a racing game, as I come inches away from brushing the wall. Awesome.

I'm still not too fond of the yellow filter though.
definately digging this game a ton NOW lets hope they make a TOCA race driver for 360 :D
Perhaps THIS will be of service to you ;) I can't wait!

Codemastes has done a terrific job and this is up there with RSC2 just judging the demo alone. The buggys I had a hella of a time working with though. Now my only problem is this versus Burnout Paradise. I only have room for one racer till Xmas, the other I have to ask for Xmas... eh.

OMFG dis game was awesome o and i might pickup rallisport for xbox since its backcompat and its 7 bucks at blockbuster this game is da bezt i will pick dis game up when it comes out but i wish ther were more cars
I had no idea that's what it referred to.
My first hands-on with the ToCA series was ToCA 3 and i loved it. While i hated the fact that people using wheels had a slight advantage, the vast amount of options from series to tuning were insane.
