DiRT - Gen. Disscussion & Info. - Demo Out Now
Every once in a while a game comes up and smacks me around and says "You suck at everything." This is that game. I think I've played too much Burnout / NFS, and I can't do anytihng in this game postiviely (just played the demo).
That was my problem at first. Due to a few weeks of Forza 2 it took awhile to get used to the controls. You'll get the hang of it.
The replays in this are so bad ass.
My only problem with the replays are that I've had a few terminal damage wrecks that I wanted to see, so I had to FF through the entire race and when I finally got to the crash I went just a tad too far and had to start over. Would be nice to be able to rewind from the end or jump to a certain point in the race. Not sure if other games offer that, but would nice....would also be sweet if you could change the camera while in slow-mo, but it is one or the other in this game.

My other big gripe after 60% complete is that I have yet to see snow or a drop of rain. Just doesn't seem right for a rally game.

The more I play also, the more I feel that the buggies, trucks, and SUVs feel right, but the Rally cars just feel loose as could be. I've played a lot of rally games and have never had this much trouble keeping my rally cars on the course. Still love it though....graphics are truely amazing...gonna finish career soon, so if anyone wants to trade for Forza 2, just shoot me a PM!

there is no weather effects. There are the levels where the ground is wet and it affects the cars performance but there is no actual rain falling. And I thought I seen a level around tier 4 that had snow on the ground. I haven't played it yet so I may be wrong.

But if things like weather are a big deal to you then PGR4 will be the game for you.

And you can rewind in the replays.

How do you rewind from the end of the race? I can't seem to do it....

I love Rally games, so PGR isn't really for me. This is just the first rally game I've played that doesn't have a snow level. They have a couple of levels with snow on the side, but none where you actually drive through snow. I guess that's why it's called DiRT:D ....who knows??? Also, the rain effects were awesome in RSC2....I just don't see why they couldn't be included in a next gen game.

Don't get me wrong, I'm thrilled to have a top notch rally game on the 360. I think I was just expecting a little more from "next gen". When you factor in no true online and some of the other short comings, I think they have some real room for improvement.

I've been stuck on Forza for a while now, so I haven't gotten around to picking this game up yet. Ordered it a few minutes ago, so I should have it at the end of the week. Damn all these great racing games.

I'm having a lot more fun with this than Forza so far. Visually this game looks better and it is always funner to play rally racing over sim racing. I do admit though that Forza has the lasting appeal over dirt. By the time I beat dirt I doubt I will go back to play it anymore. With Forza I don't know if I will ever even beat it. So much more to do.

Not taking nothing away from dirt though. It is an amazing game and worth the $60.
Hey Ryles how's the multiplayer aspect of DiRT?
Basically non existent. I was actually about to try it out right now. But if you don't know, you don't actually race against anyone physically. You all join a game then all race the same track at teh same time just on your own. Whoever has the best time wins.

Wow, a little update on my part, still waiting for my game from familyvideo and I sent in an email asking wtf is going on and I get this:
Hello Mike,

Thank you for your recent order. The following item(s) are prebooked:

1 x DiRT : Xbox 360

and should be arriving for your entertainment around:

9/18/2007

Thank you for choosing FamilyVideo.com as your choice for entertainment.

Your Friends at FamilyVideo.com
To say the least I'm pissed, what the hell 9/18?! I canceled my order with them and just ordered through amazon. God I should have had this game at launch! I love the Rally Sport Challenge games and I don't have fast enough internet to race people so I'm actually excited about the different kind of multiplayer the game has, but I'm buying Dirt for the single player of course.

the online is all right. I'm just suprised there is no voice chat though. The online is basically single player, except more of a challenge as you are racing against other peoples times, and not the CPU.

I don't know what the deal is with the 9/18/07 date (PS3 release?) but Buy.com has that as well on the 360 version product page. I ordered it about a week ago when it said limited availability and my order is stuck on "Sent To Warehouse". Hopefully it ships in a day or two.

Yea I cancelled my order with familyvideo and bought it through amazon. Came today and I played the game and it's everything I hoped it to be and more but I love rally games so... I love the replay esp. when you can slow down the action, killer. LOL why do they even make windshields haha. This game is well worth the money.
made it to tier 7 last night. I really love the FTO pikes peak car.
Wait till you get to the $1,000,000 Tacoma hill climb car. I just about hit 150 mph in that thing! It's awesome....

Just got it today...those Rally Raid races are great. I don't think I've ever seen those televised anywhere. The closest I've seen those kinds of cars would be Baja Racing.

The dump truck races are just insanely hilarious though. I don't think I used the brake in the first race. The suspension has so much give the thing bobs up and down like a dinghy in the open sea.

And I'm guessing the navigator is the actual guy that rides with Pastrana? I've not heard of him before. Sounds like he smokes two packs a day.

in the dump truck races I roll that thing at least once a race. It's so damn top heavy. Take a corner to sharp and you're on your side.

WTF? I keep looking for this game and no one has it. The release date on some sites is in September and everyone that has 6/19 as a release date says they haven't got it yet. Where are you guys getting this game?

everywhere, man. My local GameCrazy's already got two used copies!

I just ordered mine from Amazon. I haven't seen it on retail shelves (outside of the gaming stores, which I don't visit). I originally had an order at Buy.com, but they're backordered through September for some reason.

great single player. It Really shows off the 360 power. Love the menu system..even though its just there to cover up the 1-2 minute load times for each race. The real downside is the multiplayer. There is no races at all. real bummer.
But overall is a great game with alot aof stuff to do that will keep you busy throughout the summer.

Yea I did that my first race, took the corner a little too fast and sharp and I watch as my entire rig tilts and bam I'm on the ground looking at the grass flying by me lol.

Yea I also ordered off of buy but yea they're backordered and never told me! So I got it from amazon which took like 3 days to get which is nice. Man I suck at the game, I mean you gotta be on if you want to beat the AI's time with the pro am or pro. Can do everything but rally races pro.

I went through and beat the whole game on amatuer. Only played on pro when I was feeling up to the challenge. I might go back through and beat the rest of the game on pro just to get all the achievements.

I'm feeling comfortable with Pro Am level but man if you just barely hit something going so fast your done. I'm still loving this game and I think since I watched E3 on G4 I'll be buying Dirt 2 and playing against people head to head online hopefully. Rally Raid and CORR races against people would be so sweet.

Just about fully done with the game. Down to my last two achievements: 1000 miles (at about 860) and Win online Hillclimb. All-in-all, I've really enjoyed the game. I'm about to ship it off tomorrow as soon as a fellow CAG's payment clears, and I have to say my only two gripes are the lack of online and the complete lack of weather effects or any tracks with snow. I definitely would have kept the game a lot longer if there were online and it just feels strange to have a rally game with zero weather effects and zero snow. Anyway, it gives me something to look forward to in the next installment, and with how nice this game looked and played, I can only imagine legendary status for the next installment!

I love this game.

I can't believe I slept on it for long.

Pretty fun and easy points to :)

I up to tier 6 after tonight.
