i just started noticing my ps3 makes noises when it reads the disc.
is it just me or is this the norm? cause i havent noticed it before.. no scratchy noises but just the regular reading sounds like its going back n forth or something. just curious cause i hadnt notice this before lol

I was kind of wondering the same thing, its not a problem to me, but I noticed that recently too. I play my PS3 often, and leave it on for hours at times, figured it could be because of that.

I've noticed this too. It's not horrible, but the seeking of the optical head back and forth is definitely louder than the whisper-quietness that all PS2s I've had. Nowhere near Dreamcast levels of noise, but given how quiet the PS3 fan is, this noice is sometimes noticeable.

Mine makes a slight "clack" as the disc is "sucked-in" to the slot. But I don't hear disc accessing or spinning. My PS3 is 99% silent.

I was wondering about that as well. I was worried there was something wrong with the system since it's so much louder than the PS2 but I'm glad to hear it's normal.

The only game I have played on the system so far is GTA SA (I was in the middle of it when my PS2 broke and want to finish it before I open any PS3 games) and I figured because it loads so often, that was why I heard the noise so much.
