Discuss E3!
It was so bad that we had to give it to a completely unrelated party?
? The consumers(us gamers)won.

Bah, okay. Well thanks. I guess I'll read a live blog.

EDIT: Update on FF14.. "FFXIV will be coming to the PS3 & PC. They are currently considering other hardware (including Microsoft hardware!)" - From G4. Well there goes that exclusive I guess. But that's the only way the MMO could really work I guess.

I was waiting for an announcement like this.
That's not a problem, these are "secondary" controllers, whereas the motion controller for the wii is the primary controller. MS and Sony are putting the regular non-casual gamers first; Neither company is trying to "force" anyone to use motion controls. On Nintendo you can't use a regular controller w/o the Wii mote, The GC controllers don't even work with every game.
On the Wii, if you make a "casual-waggle" game, everyone with a Wii already has the motion controller necessary to play it.

If MS and Sony release their motion controllers as peripherals, that adds another purchase that has to be made before the "casual-waggle" game can even be played by the target audience. It can only market to a portion of a portion of the console install base (casual players who also have the necessary controller).

Casual-focused motion control games on Wii don't have this problem.

By not packing them in with the console, they're really making the barrier of entry harder for most casual gamers. $250 for a Wii gets you waggle, simple enough. For 360, it'll be $200/$300 for a console, then $XXX for the camera. For Sony, $299/$399 for a console, $XXX for the controller(s?).

Konami's press conference has started:

Here's the first trailer...

Now it's time for "one little surprise," as the Mask teaser image comes up on the screen.

(3:41:44 PM): The story is of a hero looking for "revenge and retribution." The game is being developed by a studio called Mercurysteam, but they are working with Kojima Productions.
(3:41:29 PM): There was a heavy God of War-like vibe from that teaser. Lots of hard action. Kojima even notes that this is a new start. Dave Cox, producer, comes on stage and calls this a reimagining. It is not connected to any of the other games.
(3:40:22 PM): Stars a character called Gabriel. The mask can bring the dead back to life. It will heavily factor into the game. And it will come out in 2010.
(3:39:40 PM): Castlevania: Lords of Shadows, folks.
(3:39:25 PM): This trailer is heavy on fantasy-medieval action. Giant monsters like ogres and spiders.
(3:38:36 PM): Jason Isaacs is listed as a cast member.
(3:37:50 PM): Sounds like Patrick Stewart is narrating. Make it so, Kojima!
(3:37:12 PM): The fourth title is about to roll... Kojima is referencing the mask that was on the site. R U READY?

I wish I could have faith in this but the last good (let alone it being great) console Caslevania was Symphony of the Night but SotN came out almost 12 years ago.

I think it's pretty cool that future PS3 and 360 games will have the option for motion control. Each of them will have games not available on Wii, just like Wii has exclusives, so now we can try motion control on each system's exclusives.

I don't know about anyone else but of all the games I've seen at E3, I think Uncharted 2 is the game that has impressed me the most. Other notable mentions for me would probably have to be God of War 3 and Splinter Cell: Conviction.

Well it looks like I'm back on the Nintendo train. I just can't quit a bitch. SONY had lots of great stuff but there were no megatons in my case. I will be buying a lot of PS3 games over the next year.

Microsoft just didn't do it for me. Ah well it seems like the 360 base is getting a lot of games and features they will really enjoy it just doesn't appeal to me personally. Kudos to them.

man where are the rape sims? theres just not enough growth in the rape game genre. i guess e3 isnt about big surprises anymore. seems like each company is taking its time going back to its console exclusives and bringing them back. seems like with sony you get 3 to 4 at the most.

got back from japan yesterday to check out E3 today. It's not as good as it was in previous large years (except the forza 3 setup). I didn't do any appointment booking ahead of time due to my previous vacation so the media badge was pretty worthless (Only area I got to walk into was the Bethesda booth). Otherwise many of the new games are only being shown behind closed doors.

Kind of made me wish I spent 3 more days in Japan rather than return to check it out.

On a side note, E3 seems a bit more pointless now w/ the ease of access via broadband video for trailers and demos on the consoles. And all the major press outlets really have had the majority of the coverage at the pre-e3 events.

They should copy the TGS model of opening up the show to the public at a cost (after the trade days) and letting the exhibitors price gouge fanboys by selling limited original goods on the showfloor for profit. Otherwise they should just revert back to the small show it was before.

porting a Wii game to the 360 or PS3 probably isn't going to be very costly either. I think that 3rd party developer for the Wii will really need to port their games... so they can make some money. (more money)

Better today, EA and Sony were both hospitable as opposed to Ubisoft and Microsoft to an extent.

Ended up with a bajillion drake's fortune 2 MP beta codes, they kept on handing them out all over the sony booth and upstairs.
Natal will come on the 720 in box not sooner.

It will not make sense to release it before then. They are not going for the 10 year cycle maybe 5-6 with an overlap of their systems.

Watch and see.
I doubt it. I see this generation going at least 7-8 years. Both Sony and MS have lost a shit ton of money, and need to stretch it out as long as possible to make some of that back.

Nintendo has no incentive to rush a system out since they are making a ton of money, and the Wii owners clearly don't care much about having cutting edge graphics etc. or they wouldn't have bought one in the first place.

I think MS would really be digging a hole if they put out a true console in 5-6 years, lose money on it again (as all hardware that is cutting edge does the first few years) and piss off people with what will likely be a pretty small jump in graphics etc. compared to past generation changes.

Better to make money on the 360 now that they can, and wait until technology advances enough to make a new console a big enough step forward to be worth people shellling out the $400 or whatever.

I don't doubt the next wave of consoles will be out before then, but it's nice to see they will support the 360 for awhile like sony does. Guess they're slowly learning.

I doubt they'll be shipping 360's in 2015. Microsoft DOES NOT ship old product once they've released something newer of the same line. Just look at Windows. What a horrible mistake that was for them to stop shipping XP.

Yeah, I don't see them waiting until 2015 (which would be 10 years from launch) to come out with a successor, and I agree with KingBroly that support for the 360 will die off as soon as the new one comes out.

But, like I said, I seem stretching the 360 for 7-8 years. I don't expect a new console before fall 2012 or 2013. No way they're doing 4 years like with the original Xbox to 360 as that would put the new one out this fall. And I don't see it coming out on the 5 year plan next fall either.

God damn you really are a fanboy on the Dr mario Kart level huh? seriously MS will support the 360 in the same way Sony is still "supporting" the PS2.

Every time you type, you make yourself look like an even bigger idiot. I'd suggest stop typing, but I know that's asking too much. Again, I'm not a fan boy, so shut up.

I know how MS works, I know they're probably talking out of their ass right now, and as soon as the next Xbox comes out, which will probably be before 2015, they will probably drop all, if not most support for the 360, since that's how they usually run their buisness. But as of right now, I'm glad to see they are at least planning to keep the 360 running, and maybe, if they've learned anything from sony, they might actually keep some development going for thee 360 when the next one comes out.

My Best of E3 write-up.

As for MS supporting the 360 post-720 launch, I wouldn't count on it. You will likely see a couple of trailing titles still come out, but MS tends to a one-track company with their products. It's killing them that they can't kill off XP right now because businesses threw a fit.

Is this best of based on hands on or from the press coverage?

If that new EA MMA uses the FNR4 engine I'd be all over it, I was put off by the visuals in UFC'09: Undisputed where if it was as stunning as FNR4 is, I would of forced myself to grind through the tutorial that put me to sleep (wouldn't mind me if the EA MMA "dumbed it down" to make it more accessible *hint, hint*).

If 360 is MS's #1 console until 2015 that means a lot of us will have to rebuy it again, at least it should be $99-$150 though. I think we will see one of the big 3 release before then and the others follow not long after.

man i'm still bummed I missed DJ Shadow and Cut Chemist @ the activision booth. DJ Shadow was inevitable because I was still out of country, but def should have made cut chemist.
