I got Disgaea Portable recently from Play Asia (it took the longest of any order to arrive -- nearly one month after it shipped). I never got around to playing Disgaea for the PS2, but I did play La Pucelle, so I am more or less familiar with the game world and some of the mechanics. I'm totally addicted so far. Since I haven't played the PS2 version, it's hard for me to say how the PSP version compares, but I think it's pretty much a perfect port. Load times are very minimal and the graphics look great. The character development and item upgrading system is very deep, and the random dungeons in the item world make it possible to play this just about forever. I haven't entirely figured out the "geo panel" system (not sure if they called it that in the English version). So far, I prefer the way it was done in La Pucelle, and I also like La Pucelle's idea of "converting" enemies on the battlefield better than the system in Disgaea (so far) but those are minor quibbles.

I wish the PSP had more games like this. I mean, most of the RPGs on the PSP are ports anyway -- why couldn't they pick games that are actually good to port? Of course, with Final Fantasy Tactics coming, I guess maybe they have gotten the message. Unfortunately, this game is not import-friendly at all, so unless you can read Japanese you're probably better skipping this. I don't know if a US release is coming or not. We can only hope.

NISA was saying that they'd bring the game to the US if there was enough interest... it'd be nice assuming that the PSP version is better than the PS2 version.

With how long one can play Disgaea, you almost need it to be portable, unless you have no job, no school, and no life.

I think the game may come stateside. I just wished it did (and the PS2 version wasn't reprinted), because I would have sent my PS2 copy to ebay asap (although the value has dropped no, so I'd keep it).

I thought sony had a policy against straight ports that didn't add anything extra to the PSP version, though?

They're adding a new dungeon or something for the US version.

I have it, but haven't played it yet, for PS2. I voted on NIS's website for the port to be brought stateside though, cuz games like this (as long as they have generous saves mid-mission) are perfect for long commutes to campus.

Is at least a European release confirmed? I would import that, as long as there is an English release somewhere (ie, the PSP Tales game).

It's confirmed for US release?!

I hope so, I really want to go through this again.

Considering I don't have a PS2 and I just got a PSP I hope so! Disgaea is one of the titles I had on a list to pick up should I get a PS2.

I've never played one, and have wanted to try because of all the hype. I'd rather have the sequel though. Hopefully it's a strong port. I'd *MUCH* rather play this on the PSP (actually all thing being equal I'd rather play almost any game on a portable).

I got the LE psp edition

I grabbed mine from NCSX and it only took a couple days to arrive, since they're located in the US to start with.

I've dropped an easy 350+ hours into the PS2 version, and i noticed new characters in the main world (around plenair).

Apparently there's a bunch of extra stuff, but since I blow at japanese, I don't know what it is >.>
What's the difference between the regular edition and the LE anyway?
LE comes in a bigger box (ooooo yaaaa...haha), also has the 2 CD soundtrack (basically a reprint of the first Disgaea LE OST) and a MAXI Single cd in a slim jewel CD case.

I'm a big fan of the game, so I had to get this :)

This should explain it better

And because you twisted my arm, I'll show a picture *sarcasm* :p

Any release date? I love this game and was almost going to get Generation of Chaos to fix the need for Strategy RPG on the PSP.

By the by, is Generation of Chaos any good?

NO! Gods NO! Seriously, my friend bought it and I tried it out. I honestly couldn't play longer than the first hour (and I feel that is an accomplishment). If you read reviews, they complain about loading. Many PSP reviews do though, so I gave.....(Loading new text) it a (loaaaaading) shot........................(character turns around)..................(stat menu comes up)

Seriously, looked like they might have a half decent game hidden in there, but you need the patience of a saint to tollerate it.

C'mon NIS, give us a true, playable SRPG and port Disgaea over here!

Thanks for saving me, I almost got it just because NIS made it. Well here's to waiting for Disgaea and Final Fantasy Tactics (which is sad, we are waiting for ports and not new games).
Awesome!!!

Totally glad I just sold my PS2 copy.

Didn't NIS promise extra features for the US if this come out here, too?
looks like the US version will have ad hoc multiplayer

According to IGN, there's some other stuff too, like other hidden NIS characters and unlockable music, and there's sort of a prequel element, with you playing as Etna and waking Laharl and so on...

NIS did not make it. They only published it. Imo, just about every game developed by NIS is great, but the games they outsource the development to, sort of suck.

Many reviewers just hated it because it was too complicated for them (due to no tutorial).
