Disks cracking?

I remember somebody mentioning that this was happening to them quite a while ago, however I don't remember the outcome of that thread.

There are cracks on the inner ring of my GoW disk. At first they were small, so I ignored them, but now they seem to be getting bigger. Two of them have already started making their way onto the silver part of the disk.

I didn't notice this until earlier today when I tried to play it and the game froze up. I got the "clean your disk with a cloth" message. I cleaned the disk and put it back in and it happened again. I can usually play for a little while, but eventually I always get that message.

Is this because of the cracks? There aren't any serious scratches or abnormalities on the disk. The only problem I can see are the cracks.

Help?

You're serious? LAY IT DOWN! Haven't you read the things on this forum?

Check your other discs. My 360 ate DOA4. Luckily, when Rhino was still around, they had a "lifetime guarantee" policy and replaced it.

Well, from what I have read in a few forums the disc cracking is usually associated with people who stand their 360 vertical. Its probably because of those cracks that your disc won't play. Just call up MS and tell them your 360 cracked the disc. If that doesn't work try calling up the game company of the game and see if you can get it exchanged through them. Its also possible your 360 is dying. But I'd try exchanging the disc before worrying about that.

My 360 better not be dying, considering I just got it back from the repair center about a week ago. I'll lay it down and see what I can do about the disk, I really hope it's replacable because I don't have any money for a new one. I'm broke as hell right now.

Huh. I still have mine verticle.

Noticed a bunch of small cracks on the inner ring of Dead Rising when I rented it.

Maybe that was from verticle 360's and not misuse.

But I simply don't have any room to lay it down :whistle2:(

my disc cracked from the center ring, too. i didn't have my system turned vertical tho. it's ALWAYS been horizontal.

anyway, i have a warranty on my system (which ALSO covers all microsoft games). so just call them up, tell them you want a replacement disc...they'll send you a box...you put your game in...and within a week or two...you'll have your brand new sealed game.

viola!

any questions, just pm me. or maybe i'll remember to check this thread...

Awesome. I still have my 90 day warrenty from my repair, I'll give them a call tommorrow.

My horizontal 360 cracked so much of the inner ring of my brother's copy of Madden that it became unplayable. It was still in warrenty, so my brother sent it back to EA and got a free replacement. It's never done that to any other game before then or since then.

I had this happen a while back. I called MS and basically, they told me I was SOL unless I still had the receipt and could exchange it at the retail level. I bought the game first day and didn't have the receipt, so I was kind of pissed. The MS rep also told me about some manufacturing defect in the Gears of War packaging...? I never looked into this. Turns out, I went down to the Gamestop where I got it and the manager exchanged it for a new one without the receipt! Needless to say, I was very happy. So Gamestop isn't entirely evil...

Just called, the guy wouldn't replace my game.

He said the disk cracked because at some point my 360 experinced vibration during gameplay. He told me that even the slightest bit of vibration will crack the disk. I don't know if that's true or not, but it would kind of explain why vertical 360s crack games more often than horizontal ones. Vertical 360s can wobble pretty easily. In fact, I do seem to recall accidentally bumping my 360 while playing Gears. That might be what did it.

Now I have to buy a new copy of GoW. This blows.

no...you paid for a warranty that also covers the microsoft games...i would complain if i were you.

when i called i basically said...i always take care of my games and for some reason the disc is cracking from the inner ring (which i had never seen before). they told me that i could take it to a 'rebuffing' place and have it rebuffed, but i would have to ask the place i purchased the game from (which was target).

so i asked and they gave me a number which basically took me around in a circle. i called microsoft back and they said they would replace the disc because it's covered under the system warranty.

they have to acknowledge that...i wouldn't give up if i were you...they're wrong. it wasn't your fault and it seems like it's a known problem since others have had it as well.

No. Don't give up, man. He's bullshiting you. They have to replace your disk.

they can't go against your warranty and that INCLUDES microsoft games. that's breaking the code of honorrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!

call them back and get yer new game.

I had the same issue last november. Had a 360 for about a week, got disc read errors. Returned that one to the store, next 360 was cracking discs in the same way you described when I had it vertical. I ended up returning my 360 and all the games I bought for my money back, now I'm just waiting for the new 360's with the new chips to come out, hopefully MS will figure out how to make a 360 that works.

and hopefully consumers will figure out that 360 systems should not be vertical.
and hopefully consumers will figure out that 360 systems should not be vertical.
You can hardly balme consumers for that when nearly every offical picture of the machine has it standing vertical. If they had made the system properly, it wouldn't make a difference.
