Disney's Epic Mickey $34 @ Amazon and Newegg___CE available for $50

Collector's Edition is still too expensive. I heard the game bombed sales wise as Disney expected more from this game and the Disney Brand. I'm sure it'll drop to $40 within 2 months.

What are you talking about? Did you check the NPD reports?

It has sold 2+ millions worldwide.

VGChartz says 1.73 Million... Less than :wii:Lego Batman, :wii: RE 4 or even :wii: Michael Jackson Experience...

I'm sure that's not what Disney expected when they agreed to a brand new video game IP... So, yeah, sales are depressing for that game...

ya real depressing. 40 dollars times 1.73 million = 69.2 million. and thats giving a 20% sway for on sale prices on the average. For a console exclusive it did well. real well. and two of those three games are established franchises have been out much longer then Epic Mickey as individual games.

And those games were released years ago... Epic Mickey was just released a couple months ago.

Didn't Disney close the studio making this? I know they closed up the one working on Tron. I heard they are pulling out of the console market and looking towards the cell phone gaming market.

Nah... they didn't close the studio.

Disney Interactive implements mass layoffs; status of Junction Point, Black Rock currently unknown

Beyond Disney Interactive's layoffs today at Junction Point and last week's closure of Propaganda Games, sources tell Joystiq that the division's job cuts go much deeper. We've been informed in this "first round" of layoffs that 250 people have been let go.

Numerous attempts to obtain an official statement from Disney have gone unanswered. There is currently no word on the overall status of Split/Second developer Black Rock Studios nor Warren Spector's Junction Point, which recently released Disney Epic Mickey, a title we've been told has not sold as well as expected. Sources also tell us that the fate of Spector could be separate from that of the studio.

Massive changes at the division have come at a steady clip ever since Disney bought social game developer Playdom for upwards of $563.2 million. Then there was the double-barreled resignation of longtime boss Graham Hopper and bigwig Steve Wadsworth. It is currently the era of James Pitaro and former Playdom CEO John Pleasants, who are seeking not to repeat the division's $234 million loss this fiscal year.

Update: Disney's terse official statement: "As part of setting a strategic direction for future success in the digital media space, the Disney Interactive Media Group today began a restructuring process"

As you can see in the update, there was some sort of confusion... the game really sold well. They are now focusing on digital distributed games (aka iPhone games).

Oh I didn't realize you were privy to internal Disney memos. Good to know we have an insider on CAG.

Uhmm..not it didn't...go to GAF or other websites that have insider info or users that worked on the game. It sold tons of copies sales wise, yes, but Disney considered it a disappointment, cuz it's Disney, they expected Mario Galaxy sales numbers or 5 million plus and not a paltry 1 million, cuz they're Disney. That massive layoffs from the Developer was unexpected, and not trimming the fat.
Oh I didn't realize you were privy to internal Disney memos. Good to know we have an insider on CAG.
This just in... As usual, Confoosius makes himself look like an idiot. I'm glad I'm a CAG insider, as well.

If you think that 2 Million sold is good, then you're obviously oblivious to how the mouse works. Selling marginally more than Big Beach Sports, Cooking Mama or Monopoly can't make Disney happy.

Oh wait, didn't mean to inject an opinion. Since you know all, tell us how Disney really feels. Maybe you can ask the people that worked on the game, since they're now in the unemployment line.
I have no idea how Disney really feels. But then again I'm not the tool that acted like I did.
Let's see... They laid off part of the studio already.

They sold FAR, FAR less of a game that featured basically their FLAGSHIP character - the character that their entire franchise is built around - than most other AAA games released around the same time period.

The discounts are already bringing the price of the game down.

Even an idiot could understand that they aren't happy with the performance of the game... Which means there's hope for you.

What's not to defend about the Nintendo 3DS? It's going to be a great system, just like the DS.

And if Epic Mickey wasn't successful (as you guys say)... then why is Warren Spector doing a sequel?

By looking at your post history (of all the people bashing the game in this thread)... you are just a bunch of Nintendo haters.

At least give them something for bringing the mouse to a proper game... when was the last one? Magic Mirror in 2002?

Haters will hate.

I think the game is fine, camera control needs work, but coming from a place that doesn't have a whole lot of experience ... what can you do.

You have to understand that GUNNM is consistently an idiot.

Nevermind the 3DS and Epic Mickey stuff, if he actually believes (by saying I'm a defender of "paper art") that you don't have to buy art (or lithos) because you can just look up images on google, then he's dumber than I thought. (Someone actually say this in the Dead Space thread.)

Actually, by reading his previous comments, I'm starting to notice that.

The only game that it's really "competing" with sales wise and losing to is Donkey Kong Country Returns (which released a week earlier). The catch is that DKC:R has far better reviews, and no negative stigma it has to fight against (aside from it being a DKC game and being hard). Epic Mickey has to fight the fact that the camera sucks ass.

No comparison. Although, it's only sold 2.00M copies worldwide, and surprise, only 1.2 million copies in the US- Epic Mickey outsold it in the US in the 9 weeks it's been available.
:wii: RE 4
Release Date: June 19, 2007
An even worse comparison, but only sold 1.87M copies worldwide. Only 1.17 million in the US, and again Epic Mickey outsold it in the US in the 9 weeks it's been available.
or even :wii: Michael Jackson Experience...
About the only legitimate comparison made. Except of course, that it's MJ and sells just based off that.
Release Date: November 23, 2010
However, VGChartz also points out something: Epic Mickey outsold this game in the US, by 130k copies.

I'm sure that's not what Disney expected when they agreed to a brand new video game IP... So, yeah, sales are depressing for that game...
It's Disney. They expect 5 million sold the first week. The fans expect a game whose camera doesn't suck pure ass.
The gameplay and everything in Epic Mickey is nice. It's really a good game overall. The camera though destroys it.

I'll just wait for the non-CE to eventually drop to $20 by end of the year since many 3rd party games on the Wii do (after being on the market for 1-yr)...Then again, not sure I can wait that long since it's a pretty fun game, LOL!

I heard you fix up an area or town in this game but when you leave and return, everything is distopic again. That really turns me off

This was my most anticipated game for 2010, until the reviewers skewered it. My story about me accosting Warren Spector at SDCC last year would make for a funny CAGCast story...

Do want... but, yeah, I think I'm gonna wait for a 10 or 20 dollar drop also.
Is this a for sure thing? Do you know when?

In for the regular edition, reviews for the CE were less than encouraging on Amazon, might want to check those out folks.
Is this a for sure thing? Do you know when?
I don't think a price drop is planned or announced.

Epic Mickey sold over 1.73 million copies worldwide in 2 months.
In for the regular edition, reviews for the CE were less than encouraging on Amazon, might want to check those out folks.
To save people the effort:

Mickey statue - arms fall off, nose falls off, and ears mar easily
Wiimote skins - small and aren't sized to fit the Wii
bonus DVD - fluff that would be more appropriate on the game's official site

Save your money and buy the Epic Mickey charger instead. I have it and it's badass. The only con is that it only comes with one battery.

Not really interested in the CE's although the faceplate & Wii-remote skins are cool if that's your thing (in addition to the 5" figure). There was a demo at BB & it's pretty cool but then again I only played it for 5-7 mins.

Thoughts on the PDP paintbrush nunchuk? I already have enough nunchuks but looks like a cool collector's item.

The nunchuck looks cheap. Not nearly as impressive as in photos. I have one but left in in the package as a collector's item. If it looked nicer I would have opened it.

Ya, kinda reluctant b/c of that despite the fact it's only $20. Then again, I know I'll eventually get this game & would be nice to use it w/it in addition to being a collector's item.

This was one of my favorite games of the past year. The wife loved watching it.

Had some issues, obviously. Camera control, that feeling that you would love to be playing this game in HD, etc. ;)
