Divx DVD player?

also this player can be unlocked to view dvds that are region free. just google the name of the dvd player and u should get ur answer

I have this dvd player, they sell it at target (for $80 *shakes fist*). Works great, plays both NTSC & PAL with no problems.

Question after you unlock the thing, do you need to do that every time you lpay a DVD from another region? Or is it once it's unlocked you don't have to do it anymore?

Yeah i have that DVD player as well. It works wonderfully and i have actually gotten comments to how cool it looks. And get this, the LED light in it is red and not blue.... why is every led light these days blue.

Anyways, Definately worth the price

I have this player. plays everything I thow at it, besides mp4 coded for psp. Sound was missing.
good thing is the files can be in folders.
i bought this dvd player over the weekend from target for $70, and it's pretty nice. my friend told me it plays avi files, and when i got it home it did just that. i haven't tried messing with the region coding yet, but i'm pretty happy with my purchase.
Lmao, i didnt know it played straight avi's...

ive wasted so many hours converting avi's to vob.... *cries*.

only if it could play mkv/ogm's, then i'd really be happy...

Got mine at Meijers at one of their Super Saturday Sales...couple this with a DVD to Divx ripper, and I am watching good quality films on CD-R.

Yeah, but the OPPO is like, $200. I'm sure you can get it cheaper, but it's "discontinued" at Price Grabber.

Does anyone know how well the Philips plays .WMVs?

60 bucks and my friend says it pretty good quality but upgrade the firmware though
Sorry to bump such an old thread, but I was thinking of buying this as a gift, and I was wondering if some of the people on this board could answer some questions about it, since it seems quite a few have used it or even own it.

First, it sounds like I would want to update the firmware. Has anyone done this, and is it still region-unlockable even after updating the firmware? I've never done this before, so I'm a bit worried whether firmware updates will close up region-unlock hacks.

Also, since I've never done this before, is it pretty simple to unlock the region? From the description, it sounds like it is just a few button presses on the remote, but are there different versions, and would newer versions not work with an older hack?

Finally, does anyone prefer another DVD player over this one? All I need is that it plays any region DVDs, and it should be in the same basic price range, but it is nice if it also plays mpg, avi, and other burned media, and that it also has progressive scan.

Thanks very much for any advice.

Might want to do some research before you upgrade the firmware. I could have sworn I read something about them changing something in the last update that stops it from playing those protected dvds if you unlock the region code. I didn't pay much attention to it at the time. Sorry I'm not much help.
Other then that it's a great player.
Look on videohelp.com for the region hack.

Yeah, that's where I was looking for the region hack. From the posts there, it sounds like there might be a different region hack for players with upgraded firmware, but it is hard to tell since no one actually says this outright.
