Do Nintendo hook ups work with a Master System?

Okay, I bought a Sega Master System today for about $25 at this local game shop. The only problem is that it came with Nintendo hook ups. Before leaving the store, I asked if the hook ups would work on the Master System, and they assured me they would.

Well, I get home and hook up the system, and I'm getting power, but no audio or video signal. I tried a different NES RF adapter, but I'm still getting a blank screen.

Do I have to have Master System specific hook ups for me to get this bad boy up and running, or do I have a different problem going on? I really appreciate any help I get with this.
 
I'm not sure about the RF switch but the original NES AC adaptors don't work. I used to try them all the time and just got loud static with no picture. I know you can use an AC adapter from a model 1 Genesis on a Master System if that is an option (model 2 &3 Genesis adapters won't fit in a Master System).
 
RF adapter works fine, AC adapter shouldn't work I'm pretty sure. NES AC outputs AC power, while the master system AC outputs DC power. DO NOT USE AN NES AC WITH ANYTHING ELSE YOU WILL FRY IT.

That's how I lost my first Master System back in the day. The RF will work fine though.
 
Well shit. Those dumbasses gave me the NES AC adapter and told me it'd work fine. I taking it back today and either getting my money back or getting a Sega DC adapter if the system isn't fried.

Sega Parts has an adaptor. I've heard a little about that company. I would also sugest a universal adaptor. That's what I had to use for my Master System since it didn't come with an adaptor. You would just have to find out what are the power requirements for the system.
