When I sold all my old Sega hardware + games, I kept two.

1] Sonic CD - cuz it fuckin owns
2] Fahrenheit - to one day test this theory.

As some of you may know.. the Sega 32X and Sega CD were add-ons for the Genesis. The Sega CD gave you FMV and more storage space while the 32X gave you extra color depth. You could also hook the two together.

There were a few games designed that took advantage of both add-ons. They all suck. Still, I was always curious to see whether or not there's an actual difference. Luckily, only 1 game was designed on both platforms, the Sega CD and the Sega 32XCD. Both discs come in the same case. I put this theory to test today.

Here are the results:

[Sega CD version]
Size:
482mb.

Size differences between versions:
Maincode.prg : 42.8kb
Seq1.bin : 212mb
Seq2.bin : 149mb
Seq3.bin : 119mb
Subcode.prg : 39.3kb

[Sega 32XCD version]
Size:
470mb.

Size differences between versions:
Maincode.prg : 52.9kb
Seq1.bin : 213mb
Seq2.bin : 133mb
Seq3.bin : 122mb
Subcode.prg : 37.2kb

I'll probably never touch these games again.. Still, I thought it was interesting to see the difference. :]

Yeah, they do look better. It's too bad that all of the games that are Sega CD 32X are FMV games. But I doubt normal sprite based games would be enhanced by using both add ons at the same time.
I've always wanted to see the differance also, thanks. That does look much nicer.
Yea me too.. but I didn't know that Kega supported 32XCD games until I noticed 3.6 was out. :]

The game or the systems? I think each system was around $200. Games were like $50.

So Genesis + Sega CD + Sega 32X was probably around $700.

Definitely improved, but too bad that was during the Crappy FMV game fad.
Yeah, I actually preordered a 32x...it was basically to help out a buddy who ran a game store. 250, I think it was.
The Sega CD actually had some great games, the 32x had a few (my gf and I were up late many nights playing Virtua Racing, with its massive total of four tracks.)
I remember Sega Visions magazine hyping up the 32x as a valid alternative to the Saturn.
I still have the Sega Gen/32x/CD combo, though I have sold some games for it.

I forgot to mention there's actually 2 games that came out on both systems.. but not in the same case like Fahrenheit. It was Night Trap and unfortunately I don't have it and don't feel like downloading it. If you feel like shipping them to me I can take screenshots.. hehe.

EDIT: Holy crap it's like $40 on ebay!

32x was a lot of fun with Doom, Virtua Racing, & Virtua Fighter. That is, when you got it for $25 instead of $250!
