Do you let people borrow your stuff (Games, CDs, DVDs)?

Just curious how many CAGs let people borrow stuff out of their collections. Or do you let people borrow one thing (say, CDs) but not another (games)?

Yeah I usually do. Then I forget they have it, and I don't see it for a couple years until I remember out of the blue or run pass it unexpectedly. And when I do find it they're all like, "Oh yeah, I keep forgetting to bring it with me when I see you."

Yep... a friend of mine has had my copy of FFVII for about... 6 months now... and a Radiohead DVD. In return I borrowed a copy of Akira. I should probably remind him.... forgot about it until now.

Like my old man used to say,

"If you let someone borrow your shit, you might as well give it to them...Chances are you're never gonna see the thing again so spare your feelings and only be willing to lend out things you're willing to lose"...

Thats why in the sixth grade i lent out my Magic playing cards...I felt it was time to start talkin' to chicks hahah

It depends in the person. There are very few people I can trust to return stuff back to me in the same condition that I gave it out in.

I require two forms of I.D. and a security deposit from anyone wanting to borrow one of my possessions.

Seriously, though, it depends on the person. It has to be someone I know I can trust and who will treat the item in question as if it were their own. (But not so much as to ensure that I never get it back...)

My next door neighbor and I trade movies back and forth all the time. If she rents something, she'll watch it and then loan it to me when she's done with it. When I buy something (I buy more than I rent, she rents more than she buys), I watch it and then promptly hand it off to her. It's a nice little symbiotic relationship. But the bottom line is I trust her. And I know where she lives. ;)

My immediate family, my best girl friend and my best guy friend. Only because by two friends are insanely anal about the way they take care of things (the girl let me borrow her launch PS2 this past June.. when she handed it to me, it was still in the blue case with the friggin wrapper on everything.. that's how I know she takes care of stuff).. everyone else.. no.

I only let two people borrow stuff. I know that they'll bring it back in the same condition. If I let my sister or cousins borrow something if I get it back it will be damn near unplayable. My mom & best friend are the only ones I will loan too. I don't like my dad borrowing stuff cause he doesn't realize how scratchable dvds are. I'm super anal about my stuff. If a dvd becomes really scratched I'll sell it and buy a new copy, only for somethings though.

I had a cousin "borrow" two of my newer (at the time) PS1 games. "Its only for the night." My mom told me not to lend them, I did. So I go over to his house later the next day. My aunt told me he moved back to Pennsylvania with his girlfriend. "Didn't he tell you" I was almost in tears. I spent 3 weeks mowing lawns to get the money for those games. I never told my mom, but if I see my cousin anytime in the future I'm going to beat his ass. Then when he is on the ground crying, I'm going to take his wallet and "borrow" $250 for the games & inflation. Then kick him twice once for RE1, and one for WCW nitro.

EDIT: I might go to PA just to find him, fucking bastard. This is serious shit people.

I never loan games and I rarely loan CDs. One of my better friends borrowed Biggie's "Ready to Die"and the RZA's Greatest Hits. It's been over six months since I've seen them......

fuck no! I learned my lesson when my brand new gc soul calibur 2 came back to me in the middle of a spicy chicken sandwich. Yes I did take a bite and was like wtf? and yeah my friend is a dick but I managed to piss in a couple of his liquor bottles he has on display and they're still there waiting to be tipped over:lol:
Yes, friends borrow our stuff all the time.
I dont get it, why wouldn't we let friends borrow our stuff?
Because friends usually don't give a rat's ass if a game/CD/DVD gets scratched all to hell because they can just give it right back to the rightful owner.

I'll let my friends borrow a dollar. Hell sometimes even 5 or 10 if they're in a pickle. But when it comes to my games, no more. My friend borrowed God of War and beat it the same night. I didn't see it for another 6 months.

Only DVDs and that's on very, very rare occasions. I take good care of my things and I know people don't take as much care of them as I do so for the most part, I don't let anyone borrow anything.

I let a friend borrow Guitar Hero (complete set) from me last Christmas after a party. He still has it.

Yeah, I lent Donnie Darko to someone, and I haven't seen it since. Same with SLC Punk (VHS). I lent the Brak Show Vol. 1 and Sealab 2021 to someone, they claim their sister took it and scratched it all up. I had a HIM CD that I lent someone, they never gave it back. Also, I lent that same person around 80 bucks over time, and I haven't gotten paid back. I did take a ton of his manga though, and I think he forgot. So yeah, theres about two people who I trust with my shit. I think it's best to get collateral, honestly.

Well, if its something rare or valueable, then I understand. My b/f wont loan out his Faces of Death DVDs. If its a $10 DVD or game, then I could care less. Gambling on losing $10 over a friend is no big deal to me.

I lent out my guitar to a friend for the weekend. His was having problems and he had a gig that weekend so I was like sure... go ahead and borrow it. He farkin SOLD it after the gig I heard from a friend later that week. when I tried to get it back he claimed he never borrowed it and then refused to answer his phone or door after that. Never saw it again.

I lent out my DDR pads (they were just plastic) and a few of my games to my then boyfriend's sister. A month or so later when I asked for my stuff back she claimed they were hers and that she had bought them. I managed to get a few of the games back but the dance pads were broken and destroyed by then. She also sold a few for cigarettes. :(

So no I dont loan stuff anymore.

I have an idea for you, get friends that aren't crackheads :D

I'll loan a game before money. I rather give a homless person a dollar then a friend. I loaned a co-worker $3 bucks. He kept talking about how hungry he was, and his lunch was soon. When his lunch came around, he asked to borrow the money. So I said yes, I then watched him go to the cigarette counter and buy a pack of smokes, with my money. Then toward then end of his shift he was hungry again. Me and this guy were cool to, we played games online.
I never asked for my money back, I lost all respect for him. and to be honest I really didn't want the money back it would have proably borrowed it from someone else to pay me + I looked at it like a learning lesson.

I also loaned my sister $600 once it took her a year to pay me back. So loaning money to anyone other then my parents is a big no, no.

All the time, somethings you get back some you don't, as long as the items I loan out I don't really care about or use often I don't tend to miss them.

You don't work, or buy your own stuff do you?

The guitar guy is needless to say...no longer a friend. I'm wiser now (I hope...)

the cigarette sister lost her job last year and ended up selling me Pump it Up w/ pad, Karaoke Rev 2 & Party w/ mic and DDR Xtreme 2 for $15 because she was desperate for cigs. That was my first offer (real low) and she was like "OK!!!!" I wonder if I could have gotten it even cheaper?

I do and I don't... it really depends on what kind of mood I'm in. Typically, it does not end well.

For example: my buddy is a big of fan of Final Fantasy Tactics as I am. I had a black label version of it that I cherish because I love the game and as a collector, I'm a whore for non-Greatest Hits versions... anyway, I borrowed it to him and I got it back a few months later. I wasn't really surprised to see that the mint jewel case it was in had a huge crack down the front of it, now...

A lot of stuff I've pretty much lost track of, but I really don't care. Like an XBox Metal Gear Solid. I can't even remember what game it was. I borrowed it to a good friend. I don't care if I don't see it again because I don't think it's particularly great, and it's very replaceable...

But really bothers me about the whole concept of "borrowing" is that it's like, "Hey, you buy it, and then I'll borrow it and reap the benefits!" I guess my philosiphy is that borrowing should be like a rental store: you get a limited amount of time to try something out before buying it. Unfortunately, this is never the case, because you get friends who decide "what's theirs is mine" and they just decide to milk that rental for as long as they want, and they feel no repercussions are in order.

Borrowing pretty much sucks.

One guy I work with has loaned me the 24 seasons 1-4 dvd sets (one season at a time). I have loaned him Xbox 360 games, it has worked out pretty good so far. I told him in advance it would take me awhile to watch them but he was cool with that. Another guy I work with borrowed my copy of Gran Turismo 4 so he could check it out on his 50" SXRD. That was, I think, in May and I still don't have it back.

I'll loan things to two people, my sister (who is even more OC about the condition of her DVD discs than I am) and my brother-in-law. Almost everyone else is ass out.

I would let my best friend borrow stuff, but usually I'll go to his place or he'll come to mine. Since he got married though he doesn't have time for that as much.
You don't work, or buy your own stuff do you?
? I have a full time career and I pay my own rent, buy my own food, clothes and everything else. It's just not a huge deal to me if someone borrows a DVD or videogame I got sick of months ago and doesn't return it. Now I won't loan them anything else but I'm not going to be sad over the loss of something that's just sitting around collecting dust.

Used to let my older brother borrow games. But after I got back my FFVIII & RE3, FFVIII was scratched to the point it locked up during FMVs(why the fuck is Square games the ones that are notorious for that?) and RE3 had part of the label missing(looked like it was torn off) and skipped the FMVs in the middle of the game. I got fed up and never let him borrow another game since they always came back scratched up. He kept asking after that to borrow my PS2 stuff, but told him "I'm not fucking Blockbuster, if you want to mess up games, go fuck their copies up".

That was back in 2002, now he has kids. Since he got a Xbox last year, it took him 3 new copies of Halo to realize why I was so anal about the conditions of the disc. Now he handles the disc the way I do and won't let his kids touch the discs. But I still won't let him borrow anything cause of those two games and not once offered to replace them.

Never loan out stuff period. That is why they have rental stores for. I once let a friend in elementary school, 1989 or so, borrow my starter jacket because he was cold so I was like fine. Found that the kid's mother is a junkie and she has her kid ask classmates to "borrow stuff" before the school day ends so later that day she could pawn the stuff to buy crack. Of course the school principle didn't want to do anything because they were black and he didn't want the drama of accussing a poor black student of stealing to support his mother's addiction. Why are white people who work in public schools such god damn pussies (white person myself)? They are like real life Mr. Macky and Principle Victoria from South Park.

I used to lend out my CDs but not anymore.

I lost: Black Sabbath vol 4, 3 David Bowie cds, Pato Baton cd, 2 Beastie Boys cds.

I dont lend out my DVDs and games at all.

If a friend won't be your friend because you won't lend him a game, then he shouldn't be your friend anyway. It's always the people that wouldn't bring the game back anyway that get all pissed. It's the people that would bring your game back in perfect condition that understand that you don't want to loan out a game.

There is a good way around all this. When someone asks to borrow something, ask for their favorite CD/game/etc. That person will make sure that game gets right back to you if they have something hanging in the balance. My good friend and I do that all the time and it helps us stay good friends. He wants to borrow Shadow of the Colossus? Then I'll need that copy of Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne. That way there isn't any crying later on.

Understandable, let me change my question

Do you make a lot of money, and/or not materialistic?

In my original question I wasn't being an ass btw.

I don't really have anything that anyone would want to borrow, but yeah, I usually lend out DVDs without a problem. I have a list of every single title I have, so it's not difficult to see what I'm missing.

However, there are a few things that I would absolutely never lend out.
