Do you need a memory card? or can you save internally?

No memory cards, There's 512MB of internal memory.

There's also an SD slot, but there's no official word on if you'll be able to use this for game saves.

Finally, they haven't mentioned anything about GameCube, odds are since it does have GC memory card slots... you'll need to save your GameCube games onto one.

That's cool. How big is 512 mb in relation to other systems abilities? Also...are they avoiding memory cards so you can not take your saved virtual console games to another friends house?

the real answer is no one has any idea. That 512 could only for VC stuff and the channels. They didnt really explain much. You can get SD cards pretty cheap if you buy them online. If you plan on getting do not get it in a B and M store unless its on sale

PS2 cards are 8MB if memory serves. The basic GC card is 4MB (MemoryCard 59) and I think the bigger GC card (251) is 16MB or so and the biggest card (1021) is 128MB.

So 512MB is a more than fair amount considering I have about 30 GameCube saves on my 1021 card and not even a fraction of the space is taken up.

As for your downloads, NES Roms are like 100kb. A big SNES game might be a couple Megs. N64 games are beefier, I don't really know enough to answer that honestly though.

So if you keep it oldschool, you can probably download every NES game and most SNES games with little storage issue.
