Do you play the same games over and over?

So this past Sunday I put in a good half day into Final Fantasy Tactics, I think it's my 5th time through or so. A couple of weeks ago I beat Shadow of the Colossus again, twice, all the way through. Before that I beat Final Fantasy VII for the umptenth time. Ninja Gaiden Black always seems to be in my 360. I'm also working on my 4th time through Lunar: SSS. With the Wii VC I've also recently beat Super Mario 64 and A Link to the Past recently too.

I've found that the vast majority of gaming that I do is in games that I've already beat. Sure other games get thrown in there when they come out. Yeah I played FFXII, I went through Okami, beat Twilight Princess, etc etc. But I always seem to go back to those handful of games and play them through again, I've beat them countless times, but I still do it.

So I'm wondering how many people out there are like me, that play games when they come out, but put most of their hours into games they've played before. So do you? And what games do you always find yourself playing?

I will say that I don't consider games like Wii Sports, Guitar Hero, DDR, Katamari, etc to be in this category as they are more pick up and play games. Games you can play for 10 minutes and put down. Going through a game like FFT is a 50 hour commitment, at least.

Yeah, I'm in the same boat.

It's usually RPGs I'm replaying like you seem to also. Final Fantasy Tactics I've played through at least 4 times. I'm going to wait for the PSP version and play it again.

FF7, 9, 10 I've played every few years. Metal Gear Solid, MGS2, MGS3, ect I replay a lot also.

I think it boils down to the nostalgia. That or they just don't make games like they used to, or a combination of both.

Either way, I will be playing a lot more new games in fall when games like Mass Effect, Rock Band, GH3, Assassins Creed, Bioshock, ect come out.

I play Final Fantasy 4 every year around my birthday. I've beaten it over 20 times at this point.

Disgaea 2 is on its 7th cycle. RE4 cube 4 or 5 times. FF6, Chrono Trigger, DQ1, FFX, FF8, Baten Kaitos, Shadow Hearts 1 and 2, Animal Crossing if that counts. Shadow of the Colossus a shit ton. I love Zelda games, but oddly a link to the past is really the only one I've revisited numerous times.

Well I could keep going, but yes, I replay games all the time.

It always seems to be rpg's with me. Chrono Trigger, FFT and 9, they're spectacular, and I can never get past how I feel after I get rid of a really tough boss. The satisfaction is priceless, and never goes away.

I go back and play games over all the time but my 'not-yet-played' list is long enough at the moment to where it won't happen for quite a while unless I get some type of urge to really play something I've already beat.

Really wish I had a counter for how many times I've played Zelda: A Link to the Past. Wouldn't be surprised if I was actually around 100-150 replays of that game and for whatever reason I never get sick of it.

You know, I have a huge backlog of Xbox and PS2 games but I still always seem to be playing something on my Saturn, Playstation, or SNES.

I just seem to have more fun playing those games, while newer ones usually feel like a chore.

Part of the main reason my backlog of games to play only gets larger is because I'm constantly replaying games, and like most of us, it's usually an RPG. For instance, I started playing and put in 10 hours of so into Legend of Dragoon this weekend. I've played and completed this game at least once a year since it came out. Plus I go on old school binges and play nothing but NES for a couple months every year. It's also nice that I can play and beat some of the NES games in a couple hours rather than commit myself to 50 hours for lots of current gen games.

I find myself starting new games in Oblivion all the time. I'll play it for a week or more straight and want to start a new character. Repeat through infinity.

I also go back and play Dragon's Curse for TG16.......man I love it.

Like many others, I have a huge backlog of games that I havent even started, let alone finished. However, I dont generally play games again after finishing the storyline. In fact, in recent times (aka the last few years), there have only been 4 games that I have played through, start-to-finish, more than once: Three classic games - Street Fighter II, Super Street Fighter II, and Mortal Kombat (though those could be considered pick 'n play games) and the one recent game was Kingdom Hearts 2.

Strangely enough, I consider the first KH to be my more favored game, but I really dont want to replay it. However, I could start over with KH2 for a 4th time today, except I'm trying to be disciplined and finish up Bully and Burnout: Revenge.

I very rarely even beat the games I own, so I almost never play through a game more than once. The only game I have beaten more than once is Grim Fandango, which is my favorite game of all time.

No, not really.

There a few titles I pick out pretty often, but that's like, you know: Halo 2 or Counter Strike and such.

I mostly rent games, and play new stuff (or, at least, stuff that's new to me). I suppose I could live with just a few old games, but I certainly like always playing something new (I even get pissed when a new game feels to much like an old one).

I've played through Ocarina of Time so many times it's ridiculous. Other than that and maybe a few time through Resident Evil 4 and Final Fantasy X, I really don't play games over (unless it's a multiplayer or co-op game, of course).

Who isn't going to replay the classics once in a while?

I guess the Madden-type gamers... most of us will never get sick of Mario Bros, Zelda, etc.

Well I'm sure everyone has replayed a game at some point, but for someone like me, I think I replay games more than I play new games.

There used to be times when I would play the same games over and over. I can't even remember how many times I beat Chrono Trigger and FF7. These days though its rare if I can even find the time to beat a 10 hour FPS let alone repeatedly beat 60 hour RPG's.

I generally don't, but it it's a game I really enjoyed, then I'll play through it a few times, even though I really shouldn't because I have such a huge backlog. For example, I've beaten half life 2 on the pc too many times to even bother counting, and i'm even playing through the xbox version right now too.

Not so much with newer games. I guess that's because I am always buying a new game with games being so cheap today. Back in the 8 and 16 bit days, I always used to replay games.

Same here. Either Oblivion or Smackdown is always in my 360.

I also play most of my NES games over and over. I go thorugh Super Mario 2 at least once a week. It's weird, but the 8 bit games are so much more fun to go back and replay than 95% of the current gen are for me.

The only time I replay a game these days is if it was re-released onto a new system like SMB 2 on GBA. back in the day however I remember playing through MGS and Pokemon tons of times. Gotta catch 'em all.
