Does anybody know the reliability of the new ps2's???

CAGiversary!
I'm thinking about buying a new ps2, but I don't know if the quality of the hardware is as good or better or worse or whatever than it used to be. It would be great if you posted the model # of the ps2 too. Thanks aheaad of time for any response.

Don't have the model number, but just pick up the PS2s with the yellow "+" sticker in the corner. All the new ones w/ pro scan and DVD-R (?) compatability have it.

I'm pretty sure it's better now. It'd be a pretty horrific display by Sony if their new models started crapping out, especially on the horizon of the next generation of consoles.
Either way, I'd say Sony's been pretty good even about the shitty quality of the original model of PS2s. Mine stopped reading DVDs after about 2 years, Sony took it back and fixed it in a week at no charge.

i just got a ps2 a few weeks ago and it works fine, apparently these new ones are suppose to make less noise and stuff so they have to b better.

do people really have that meany problems? my original unit from launch day works as well as it did when i got it. what was that, like 3 years ago? maybe its because i've had it vertical the entire time.

Isn't it having vertical that causes most of the problems? I heard that quite a few times. Maybe you have just been lucky, I had mine vertical and well I did encounter the DRE problem. Fortunately I found out in CAG about Sony fixing this problem for free so they did.

Some times the system will vibrate in the vertical position if the pads on the bottom arnt perfectly centered(assuming you didnt blow 15 bucks on a vertical stand).

The damage cause by vertical positioning is from the surface not being completely level I've heard. Personally Mine has be vertical from launch and if didnt have a problem until last year(fixed free by sony).

The speed differance between DVD(silver) and CD(blue) based games might be the cause of the different sound you;re hearing... but if you;re getting a loud clicking sound you're on the verge of gettin DREs and soon it'll be time to call Sony for your free repair.

Yeah the V7 and up tend to act a lot better - - is it true that they are harder to mod, though? As in needing a modchip AND a boot disc?

V9 and V10 are a little harder to mod. Boot discs are only for swap mods (which are not very good). Soldered chip mods are the way to go.

yea mine fell and wont detect network adapter which means i cant play ff11..im thinking of picking one up if only damn sony drops price
