Does anybody think Chrono Trigger is overrated? (not a flame attempt)

Its not as bad as the PS1, but its still not close to the SNES.

CT was, and still is, the pinnacle of RPGs to me. The game just did everything right... and I beat this game after many SNES and PS1 RPGs.

And it seems like the only reason CC is dissed is because it's not CT. Of course it's not CT and nobody should've ever expected it to be CT seeing as how completely different the development teams were for the two games.

CC was an amazing RPG... excellent battle system, engaging story, beautiful graphics, and one of the best soundtracks of any PS1 RPG.

In one of my graduate classes, one of the students wrote one of his papers about Simon Magus, and all I could think about was kick ass Magus from Chrono Trigger.

He was Sephiroth before there was a Sephiroth.

Do not insult Magus like that in my presence.

On the PS3, you can play Chrono Trigger in 1080p like it was meant to be!

Wow,

I have never seen a game so universally loved. Even FFVII doesn't get this much love!

I played through CT when it first came out. I remember VERY little about it other than that when I got to the end of it I felt like it was a pretty good game but not good enough to play through again. I was in HS back then, maybe I missed some of the subtlety and should play through it again.

I started to play CC and hated it 5 minutes in. I still had a bitter taste in my mouth from FFVII (sorry all you Cerebus lovers) and not remembering much of CT made me feel like if I didn't love CC out of the gates I should probably either wait until I play through CT again, or ignore it altogether. I hate "missing" things in games and something about it in the beginning I really dind't like, so I specifically remember turning it off and taking it back to the person I got it from...

All that is to say while I'm really in no position to call Chrono Trigger "over-rated", I am surprised in this thread that nobody else did. The universal love for this game has convinced me I need to go back and give it another shot.

well, unlike FFVII, Chrono Trigger ages well because it's in 2D, not first generation, single shaded popeye arm 3D caricatures.

PSOne is to 3D as NES is to 2D.

PS2 is to 3D as SNES is to 2D.

I don't think it's overrated at all. In fact, reading this thread has reminded me that I want to go back and play through it again. Time to go fire up the ol' SNES.

Chrono Trigger is the best RPG, arguably even one of the greatest games I have ever played. Great characters, great storyline, great battle system, great music, great graphics (for its time). I think I beat it at least 5 times and just reading this thread makes me want to go through and play again because its been several years.
