I'm curious what are some of the best things to look for and which form to burn them(avi, mpeg?) and what programs do you use to burn and what plays the best in your dvd players? I'm trying to download Elfin Lied now since that one cager has talked it up and has that sig. what other hardcore stuff is worth getting and as always i am a completeist and like to start from the begining and burn it all from a series. What to start with? What steps to u guys take to be the most efficent? thanx

Monster. For the love of god, drop everything and watch Monster. Ever since Fullmetal Alchemist ended, it's the best thing currently airing in Japan.

... Elfen Lied really isn't all that good, but I guess some people are drawn in by the gore-factor. I'll take sophisticated storytelling over pandering to the lowest common denominator, thanks.

sounds good i'll look for monster
i'm also into crazy hardcore ninja samurai sword stuff and mech
for instance i have ninja scroll and the vamp hunter d series
also what programs do u guys use? i have bearshare, winmx, and i refuse to use kazzaa. yea u can all flame me for using these programs, but please when u do include 80% of your fellow cagers and million around the world.

TV rips aren't illegal. If they were, you wouldn't be able to tape a show to VHS and give it to a friend. Besides the fact that its a foreign channel and you're not subject to foreign laws.

DVD-rips are illegal though, but it doesn't stop most.

What you want to get are divx files, they're .avi. If you want to watch them in your dvd player, you'll have to convert it to a format it can read, since most dvd players can't play divx files. It'll have to be converted into either a VCD (mpeg) or DVD (vob). TMPGenc does this I think, but I haven't needed to do any of that for a long time. I just watch things on my 20 inch monitor.

I use kazaa lite and it works great.
You have already seen all the episodes of Inuyasha and Rorouni Kenshin right? If not, get crackin'

Can someone tell me what monster is all about, and how many eps are out? I need something good to start watching.

I generally just watch the vids on the PC. Most are in DivX format with really nice quality. I don't burn them to play on a dvd or anything, but just burn them as data files for backup.

yea i'm definitely looking for dvd burned hard copies for my dvd player and tv. since people gathered around my comp wont b good. my winmx isnt connecting and having problems all i get is viruses and attachments from kazzaa and now my bearshare is slow as hell.

On a semi-related note, If I wanted some episodes of Smallville (season 2), which P2P is best? I have Ares, but all I find are S 3/4.

You can PM me if you don't wanna post.

Good luck converting divx to mpeg. It's a bitch and a half. I laugh at those that still use kazaa/winmx/bearshare/p2p programs.

The best thing you could possibly do, since I don't often see SVCD DVD rips of Animes, would see if your video card has a video out image and get some plugs and hook it up to your TV so your TV acts like a monitor. Using Quicktime and Windows Media Player, I actually used this method to record some stuff on a VHS tape, and it actually worked, and no, it wasn't porn.

Install Bittorrent and go to suprnova.org for their anime section, most of the fansub groups have torrents listed there. No bullshit like Kazaa.

Good luck getting all 167 episodes and 3 movies of Inuyasha... I have them, almost 40gb.

TMPGenc has a free version that you can find on google, I don't know their site. I've done conversion of divx to mpeg, its a lengthy process, especially on slower computers. But the mpeg files you can download are the worst quality you can get. If you have TV out on your video card, just watch them on your TV with that. If you have an Xbox and don't use XBL, you may consider using Xbox Media player, which can play anything.

You really don't have much of an option but to download divx files, its all anyone uses anymore. You just have to figure out what to do from there.

Its actually all on my hard drive. My anime totals 80gb and that plus other shows (including the entire series of Babylon 5) totals 140gb.

To make things clear, I do actually buy Anime and I do buy DVD's. I have several boxsets here.

I used to keep it all on my HDD, but I started downloading One Piece ... then Fullmetal Alchemist ..... next the dot Hack series .......... then I started getting non-Anime shows ...... you get the picture ....... I have a lot of HDD space on the overall network, but it was getting cluttered. Plus, other people wanted to get the episodes from me, so I found it easier to just burn a lot of it on the DVD's and then take it to their house. I buy animes too if it has the original episodes and not some cut up crap. I usually just delete the episodes I downloaded, or burn them on DVD's if I buy the DVD sets.

www.animesuki.com has a bunch of fansubbed UNLICENSED anime.

Once an anime gets recruited by Viz, TokyoPop, 4Kids, etc. - they take all the torrents down.

Since you won't find any of those animes in the US, they "should" be perfectly legal to watch.

I seriously, seriously doubt it. Mpegs that I've downloaded from DVDRips rival actual DVD quality when burnt to SVCD. In the case of Shrek 2, the video was actually and completely literally untouched. I guess it just depend on what group rips and encodes it. I taught myself how to rip a DVD and convert to (two) divx files, 700mb each.. still working on learning how to rip a full movie to one 700 XViD file. Comes in handy when I'm on trips, the laptop doesn't have a DVD burner.

And for the record, I did go buy Shrek 2 when it came out.

k sounds good ive used bit torrent and been to supernova before so i will try 2 download from there. so now i guess the problem will be to find out a way to convert dvx to mpeg right? then burn the mpeg?

If they're high quality then they're very, very large. You either waste time by converting the avi to mpeg, or you waste time downloading the huge mpeg file. You have to figure out which wastes your time the least.

You're correct, the files are huge. 1.6gb for a full SVCD movie. I just leave it on overnight or something, no biggie.

Its faster for me to convert them if I have to, just have it do a batch job. Plus most Anime is widely available in divx but not in high quality mpeg.

I should probably start burning some of my anime, considering I've gotten myself down to 6 gigs thanks to all the random anime I download.

And it doesn't fit into any of your categories, but you should watch FMA if you ever get a chance. Seriously my favorite anime now.

whats FMA

im downloading first ep of monster now and it says it has 12 hours left ooomy gooood this could take years for a complete series
whats FMA

FMA is Full Metal Alchemist. It's about two brothers who are alchemists. They try to revive their dead mother, even though human alchemy is forbidden. Let's just say things don't go too well, and one brother loses his entire body while the other loses a leg. The one without a leg sacrifices his arm to bind his brother's soul to a suit of armor. The show is then about their search for the Philosopher's Stone to be able to ignore the rules of alchemy and return themselves to their normal bodies.

If you want to download through a p2p, try edonkey2000.

For tons of guides for converting things to dvd and such: videohelp.com

for tons of anime to watch, dl, and talk about try:animereactor forum

I just watched all 51 eps of Full Metal Alchemist in the past 2 weeks and it's pretty good. I think my fav though is One Piece. How it takes a ridiculous premise and makes it all sooo good is beyond me.
oo yea was watching that last night
hope i can find a way to get these episodes quicker
Yeah, I was about to add if you wanted to see what it was like you could watch the dub on [as]. Another anime it seems that is worth checking out for you is Bleach. I've only flipped through the first episode, but it seems pretty damn good.

And it's too bad you can't download things through Direct Connect like I can, since you're not on my college's server. I can download typically at speeds of 1+ Mbps. It's helpful when downloading anime.

A friend downloads all my anime for me since I have 56k and burns them all as .AVIs on CDr and I just watch them like that on my computer it's a lot simpler than wasting time converting it to DVD or even VCD.

But It seems thata program like Pinicle Studio or Roxio Videowave can also convert you AVI directly to DVD/VCD format.

As for how to get them Torrents are great and safer than P2P. These sites link to legal fansubs, generally a fansub group will pull them when the anime is officially licenced for english release so they arnt breaking domestic law.

:D
The subs I downloaded are much better than stuff I've imported, I'm only on episode 121 right now, waiting till after the holidays to get more. I'm trying hard not to import the figures, hoping they'll release them in the US now that it's on Foxbox. Zolo....wtf

And a harder to find but really funny anime is Sakigake!! Cromatie High.
Plot Summary: Folks, meet Takashi Koyama. Enrolled at Cromartie High, where everybody is a delinquent, Koyama is apparently the only non-delinquent in the school. Logically, therefore, he must be the toughest in his class - by the rather twisted logic that only a really tough rabbit would lie down with lions. Thus begins a story that parodies every cliché of tough-guy anime that you've ever heard of, and some you haven't. Oh, and Freddie Mercury is in it, too.

www.anime-keep.org is a place to find unlicensed anime torrents. Bleach is the hot thing right now, haven't seen it yet, though. I see a couple of people recommended Monster, which is great, but it's more drama/suspense than ninjas and atomic weapons.

im playing hard 2 get :p te hee :p

side note, i havent watched anime in well over a year, and since i only have a week of finals left, i need sumthing 2d o..ne ideas?

I've been using eMule (which is based off of the eDonkey network) for my P2P stuff and it works pretty good. There are a ton of sites that support the links with a full range of diverse stuff that you will never find in the States. Recently I installed Shareaza And found it to be rockin. It works with multiple networks and right now it supports eDonkey2000, Gnutella, Gnutella2, and BitTorrent. Another nice feature is that if it detects a corrupt data chunk it will dump it and not "complete" the file until it finds the right one. Nice feature when you have spent a couple days downloading the next ep in a series you are trying to complete. For file links try these sites:
-shareconnector.com
-shareprovider.com
-sharetv.net
-fucktheinter.net
-filedonkey.com
kenshin! get kenshin!
I think the anime for this is incomplete (it was never really finished)?

As far as I know the manga goes much farther.

The Kenshin movie "Reflections" that came out last year finished it up pretty good. Trust me, after that ending, IT IS OVER.

Guys why do you insta flame anyone who ever talks about a single mod chip? then go talking about downloading copyrighted video from the internet to burn. Same deal, piracy is piracy,

Becuase we approve of one and disapprove of the other. It's called the double standard. Don't knock it.

That ending sucked compared to the manga. WTF were they thinking, like I wanna see the hero from my favorite anime ever like that.

yeah tell me about it.. the ending sucked but at least there is some closure unlike inuyasha where they left us hanging....
Guys why do you insta flame anyone who ever talks about a single mod chip? then go talking about downloading copyrighted video from the internet to burn. Same deal, piracy is piracy,
I asked where I could get a cheap modchip to play PS2 games and the lovely people on this forum turned the topic into a flaming hellhole.

Anime and almost all other Japanese media is protected by international copyright laws, which are way stronger than the trade laws that I consider optional.

Think about it.

Have you guys looked at the Phillips DVP 642 DVD player with Mpeg 4 (XVID and DIVX) play back. I purchased it for my parents and it plays virtually all DIVX and XVIDS I threw at it. You could see it at:

AMAZON

BESTBUY

Check Wal-mart and Target B&M they should have it for about ~$70

Features:
* Plays DVD-Video, video CD, audio CD, JPEG image CD, and CDs loaded with MP3, MPEG-4, or DivX 3.11/4.x/5.x files
* Progressive-scan output for seamless, flicker-free images on HD-ready TVs; SmartPicture and 4x video upsampling enhance all outputs
* Optical and coaxial digital-audio terminals pass Dolby Digital and DTS surround signals
* PAL-to-NTSC format conversion--great for viewing non-region-encoded European discs
* Measures 17.1 x 1.7 x 9.3 inches (W x H x D)

If you flash the firmware, I heard you can make it display .srt files (Sorry I havent tried it)

It is a little loud for a DVD player and the remote kinda sucks but it is well worth it. Also check videohelp.com for more specs.

its a great player for avi divx files.. had it for awhile now and got all my friends to get it too.. :D

cd-helper.com sells backups of your favorite anime shows for 3.00 a dvd r. You have to be a member of the site but signing up is free.
