Does anyone know the markup on TVs?

Sulmona

CAGiversary!
Does anyone know how much an electronics store like Best Buy marks up TVs, namely LCD tvs. There is a possibility I may have access to an employee discount (sibling applied) so I am wondering how much markup generally is since I am in the market for a >30 inch LCD

I work at a Sam's Club and can tell you that lcd tv's at my club are marked up roughly 4-8 % Depending on manufacturer. If you compare our prices to Best Buys figuring they have the same cost I would estimate between 12-15% again depending on manufacturer. Hope that helps.

thats all? online i read something like 40%, i find it hard to believe that best buy only makes $100 on the sale of a big screen tv

I work at best buy and from my experiences you're looking roughly 20-25% on tubes and projos and about 30-40% on plasmas and LCDs. These are applicable to most major brands, sony, mits, jvc, rca, toshiba....

ok good, that 42" grand wega looks REALLY good at $1200-1300...

just curious, would an off brand like insignia have a bigger markup?

Insignia is actually a best buy brand (as is dynex and geek squad stuff) and the markup is more significant there (actually, i guess i should say the cost to the company is less... but same thing). for example, most blank cd media is marked up 100% but a dynex stack is closer to 200%. I would say add about another 10% to the numbers I mentioned previously for an insignia tv.
