Dolby Surround via HDMI on TV...?

CAGiversary!
Can anyone explain to me why...

- I can get DTS sound on PS3 using HDMI to my TV and then optical to my receiver
- Yet, the same setup for Xbox 360 doesn't give me DTS?

It's a been a year now, and truly I still don't understand.
If anyone could figure this out for me....I can't justify buying that optical split cable.

Thanks

I believe for the 360 you have to run the HDMI to the receiver or if you're like me and have an older receiver, then you have to run the optical from the 360 to the TV.

My receiver only has one optical input as well, but I bought one of these along with 2 optical cables, 1 for the 360, 1 for the output of the splitter, and all has worked perfectly for me.

Most TV's i've encountered (haven't checked in 1.5 years though) don't have 5.1 audio passthru. Instead they turn it into simulated 5.1 (forgot the name). Check to see if you have passthru on your TV and if you do make sure it's enabled fior that hookup.

I had to run my optical from the xbox to the receiver for this very reason.
