Donkey Konga

I loved the Donkey Kongs for SNES but the Konga for Gamecube has me a 'lil leary with the bongos and seems like it may be juvenile . Do you use the bongos in just parts of the game and is it sililar to the old donkey kong ? Any opinions ? Thanks !

Donkey Konga is a music game where you clap along and hit the bongos with the beat.. it's not similar in any way, shape or form, to the SNES games.

It is very similiar othe DKCs of SNES in my opinion... with the most notable difference being you use the bongos to control DK. It's rather innovative and I say you'll never know unless you try it ;)

I've played the Jungle Beat demo at TRU a month or two ago, and I was surprised at how much fun the demo was. It was like the SNES version, just with a different controller. I bet you'll like it.

I am looking to get the Nintendo bongo games and was just wondering if anyone else is noticing that Donkey Konga 1 is not easy to find anymore. Also to the OP Jungle beat seems really fun from what I played of the demo and is the main reason I'm looking to pick the other games up.

My Toys'R'Us had a few left, they had a bunch at launch, they even set up a pyramid because not many sold. Maybe check there. Or just get 2 since its estentially the same thing with different songs and more.

Although I think the Nintendo themes in 1 make it the better game.

In my opinion, Jungle Beat is one of the best reasons to own a Gamecube. It is one of the few games I've played this generation that goes beyond being fun and becomes an experience.

The themes are my main intrest in getting Konga at all. Also it seems logical to buy Konga as your game with bongos as it isn't offered alone to my knowledge(although my local eb has a copy used bongoless $19.99) .

The disappointing thing about DKJB (I'm assuming that is the one you meant to ask about) are the boss battles are extremely repetitive. There's maybe just three to four different boss "skins" and maybe one or two different ways to dispatch of them. There's nothing really new way to dispatch of them.

That said, it's a hell of a lot of fun controlling DK. Once you really get used to the controls, you'll get this sense of amazement as you see him flying through the air building up combos. The level design is simply fantastic. It really is unlike any other platformer I've played barring the innovative control scheme.

If you like the old arcade mentality of "beat it over and over for the top score" then the game's perfect for you. First time running through, the game is pretty short, but trying for the higher medals really has you going over the levels trying to get that last banana. And going back to the level design and the fun control (it doesn't really get tiring), that isn't as tedious as it would seem.

Awesome... Being a DKC whore, I will be looking into this game now, thanks to this thread. Thanks OP / everyone.

I appreciate all the replies. I think I will try it. Anyone interested should check EBAY for these games and bongos. Still many on there for sale !!!
