Decided to browse the Gamestop digital downloads section to see if I could sniff out a deal. I think I found one.

DOOM is available for $4.99 which is the regular price, HOWEVER since it was pulled from XBLA some time ago this may be the only opportunity to get it now.

Here's a direct link: http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?product_id=87597

Just ordered and downloaded it. They have some chutzpah to charge tax on it but I guess that's the price I pay for not buying it when I had the chance.
I wonder if Warner Bros/Time Warner/id Software would bump the price up to 800 MSP if they re-released it, seeing as that's how much DOOM 2 costs. Have any other XBLA titles undergone a regime change like this and been re-released under a new publisher? I wonder if it would be compatible with the Activision release, ie. multiplayer.
Well Doom was originally released at 800 pts. So I would imagine if it get's re-released, then it would come out at 800 pts, like Doom II.
Aren't all the Pinball FX 1 DLC tables available through FX 2?
That's what I thought, and bought Haunted Mansion and Bullwinkle there hoping to get a little closer to completing that hard as balls (but fun) game. No dice. FX 1 tables work in FX 2, but buying tables in FX 2 does not download FX 1 versions. I even tried the Zen forums, they gave some bullshit about it being "too confusing" to have two versions on xbla at once. Annoyed.

True, however it permanently dropped in price back in 2008 as part of the XBLA Hits promo (kind of like PH but for XBLA). I'm still interested to know where this rumor of id re-releasing it came from.

Oh I see. Can you not purchase tables directly through the FX 1 client? I didn't own FX 1 so I'm not sure.

Guess the code can't be redeemed on the website, I keep getting an error...wanted to add it to my d/l queue. I'm assuming it'll work on the console when I get home...

You used to be able to, but now there is nothing available when you try to do so.

Just tried to use a $10 code to buy some of the Mass Effect 2 DLC but it wouldn't work. Decided to call customer service, figured I had nothing to lose. Turns out that since the DLC add-ons are new to their site the $10 codes from last Summer are not coded in the system for them properly (or something along those lines, not sure what he meant). He checked with a supervisor through and they both said the coupon should work and to call them back after I make my order and they will apply the coupon from their end.

I never found my extra copy of Joust - the card seems to have gone missing. :( At least you didn't miss out, bsmiff. On the positive side, Chrono Gear pointed me toward robotron 2084 codes on ebay and I picked one up there for something like $4.80 (EDIT: it was $4.49). The seller sent me the code this afternoon and I just plugged it in online and it seems to have worked. Will download it tonight. Yeah!

If Doom is brought back to XBLA, will it be compatible with the old one? I.e. will someone with the old version be able to play online with someone with the new version? Who knows, right?

Thanks cruchewey (and Chrono Gear), I missed out on Robotron originally. I picked up a code from (more than likely) the same seller.

Nice, I'll def check out those Robotron codes on ebay. Did the seller ship it to you or just email you the code?

Also, I really hope that this old Activision version of Doom will be compatible with a re-release if it happens. I sort of doubt Bethesda will bother though, seeing as they just went ahead and released Doom II. Almost seems more likely to me that they would release the original Doom eps as DLC for their Doom II client or something. But yeah, who knows indeed.

They email out the code. I redeemed it on xbox.com and confirmed it downloaded to my xbox just now.

I would have posted about the codes myself but I wasn't sure how to handle eBay related "deals". Glad to see there are a few folks still interested in the classics.

Thanks a ton Chrono and crunc, just got my Robotron code and the DL is queued up. This thread has done me well! Now if only some Smash TV and Joust codes would turn up :)

bsmiff and I played coop Robotron 2084 last night. Wow, is that weird. You take turns moving and shooting, the other player doing the other part. He moves, you shoot. You shoot, he moves. What a bizarre idea. The game is great, though. I'm never going to 100% it, though, and not just because some of the achievements require online play....
