Our good friend Mr. Iwata has apparently said we will be able to download DS demos to the Wii (or they will be downloaded for us overnight), and from there transfer them to the DS. More fun than demo stations in stores, and frankly, this will be sweet. If they can get a good number of demos out, it should take up the slack left by Blockbuster abandoning portable rentals.

I just read this as well and it is a great idea. Not having to go to Best Buy or EB to get the latest DS demos will be awesome. I also noticed that he was talking about small developers being able to create smaller games and sell them for 500 Yen (roughly $5 US) over the "network" which I assume is the Virtual Console. I'm really looking forward to the Wii.

Would be a crime not to include that.

With Wii, I see the integration of "online" stuff being handled in a promising fashion. Yes, there are gaps they have to fill out in my head, but it's not like I wasn't excited that Nintendo are at it again before knowing anything at all.

I'm very curious to see how the Virtual Console is going to work towards distribution of indie gamers data. Anyone can go get devkitPro right now (100% legal, by the way) and develop games for the Cube, GBA, SNES, and DS. That means that if Nintendo play their cards right, they can pretty much assure themselves an influx of indie developers for free.

We should all pitch in and make a CAG game where you have to hunt for the best deals. Think about it... being able to kick over a magazine rack with the wiimote! Just strap it to your ankle!

I hate the Wii. It makes me want it so damn much that the wait is unbearable. Good news after good news after good news. Stupid machine.

Okay, you want some bad news?..

There is going to be NO Hard Drive. No High Definition. No Core Processor Technology. No GTA IV. No Metal Gear Solid 4. No Halo 3. No Virtua Fighter 5.

That's about all I got. We should make a "Wii Withdrawal" thread with every piece of legitimate garbage that we can find about the Wii posted just to get us through the wait.
Thats a Yes with an external drive
Look, man... I was doing my best to keep my fellow man with his Wii-thdrawal. I don't need you to come here and undo the therapeutic nature of my warm words...

The only thing I give a remote damn about of the things you mentioned is the no GTA4. Still, i'm not going to pay $600 for this one game. If Nintendo garners enough support, who knows? Maybe Rockstar would start developing for the Wii?

There will be no 5.1 surround sound support for Wii, despite the fact that digital surround cards are available off the shelf for $15.

There, how's that? I got your back, man...

It'll still do Pro-Logic 2. I dont have any sound system at the moment, so its a completely moot point.

Jesus christ, are you stuck in the 90s?

Nope. Last sound sytem I had got fried, moved into an apartment, and frankly dont care that much. When I have the place and budget to make it right then I'll care, otherwise I'll just enjoy the gameplay aspect of games.

EDIT: wow...forgot all about my custom title...i need a fucking nap....

Yes there is.. it supports DPLII, which is technically 5.1 (5 seperate channels, 1 sub) though doesn't sound as good as DD5.1.

How would stores with download stations be taking this? Wouldn't they be hoping that while mom takes jimmy to BB for some batteries, jimmy will run over to the download station and see a game in store that he wants while he's there?

That's assuming they own a Wii... and they'll likely buy that at a store. And games for it at a store. And the games that they download demos for at home and like enough to buy... at a store. I think they'll be okay with it ;)

It sounds great, I wonder how well they will implement it. Xbox live service has had its high and low points over the course of its 5 or so years. Msft had some background in online/network setups. Nintendo has been a gaming company, who have dabbled unsucessfully into online gaming. The little bit of info for the wii's online network sounds great, but will they be able to avoid major hurdles?

Nintendo may have dabbled unsuccessfully in the past, but I would say that the WFC service has been an absolute success. 1 million unique users in 4 months is pretty successfull if you ask me. It took Xbox Live 18 months to reach those numbers. Now Nintendo hit the mark faster partly b/c the service is free, but that is still an outstanding achievement given Nintendo is a company that has placed little emphasis on online gaming in the past.

The Wii Connect 24 service on its own sounds really cool. Nintendo wants you to log into your console on a daily basis kind of like your email account. I know that it will be very cool to see new content (Iwata described an LED that lights up on the Wii when something new has arrived) delivered to my Wii on a regular basis.
