Dragon Ball Z: Seasons 1-9 $18.99 Each Amazon

I've been waiting for a good deal on these sets, but after hearing that Funimation is planning on releasing DBZ Kai this year I might just hold off and wait on a good deal on those.
that'll be nice if its $19 for all the seasons together.
LOL, agreed. I never got into DBZ, but my brother will get lots of television baby-sitting out of this. His boy loves this sh**. But then again, he's probably got them all Torrented and burned.

Good deal for each one! Bought each one when they came out retail price because I love this series. :whistle2:( Oh well still had fun watching it. Now if these were the dragon boxes... it would've been better. Need Vol 2 DB Box. :whistle2:D

I'm waiting for the dragon boxes personally, or DBZ Kai. I started watching the show for the first time in over 10 years (DBZ box 1), brings back memories.

For like the fifth time this month, people should be warned that these sets are pretty terrible. They've been cropped into faux-widescreen, and the "remastering" process basically amounted to cranking the contrast way up, resulting in blindingly bright skin tones and a dramatic loss of detail. Why do people buy this shit over the Dragon Boxes?! Eesh.
isnt DBZ Kai like a toned down version? i mean like, shortened and took out the BS?
DBZ Kai just edits out all the stuff that wasn't in the manga... which IMO makes it sorta boring, because then it's mostly just fighting.

if the dragon boxes weren't coming i would jump on these but ill stick with the dragon boxes

sweet deal those who aren't patient enough to wait on the dragon boxes or have the $ to double dip

because only one dragon box has been released so far
DragonBox vol. 2 came out today.

And RightStuf has been shipping it for almost a month.

BOOM!

And even then, why buy a crappy product because you aren't willing to wait a relatively small amount of time for a far superior product?

Also, Kirin is totally correct. Just listen to him, thanks. The later sets are a little better, but none of them are anywhere near acceptable in comparison to the DragonBoxes.

Yeah, it's basically like a "director's cut" of DBZ. Akira Toriyama oversaw the production of Kai which is basically them whittling down the 291 episodes into 100 more streamlined episodes ie no more filler episodes.

Pfft... Toriyama had as much involvement with Kai as he did with Evolution. If anything, they're just staying more consistent with the manga... But even then, they've strayed a bit from that, from what I've heard.

Getting the rest of my seasons which would be 6,7,8,9. Then moving on to GT, and the Dragonball. Then getting the Dragon boxes.

As a side note it looks like one of the Dragon Boxes will be a gold box deal today in approx 6 hours.

Upcoming Deal
A Dragon Ball Z collector's set now available in the U.S

All seasons 18.86 at Walmart.com. This is tough now because I was going to start collecting the seasons of Lost (which the first two seasons are less than $17 there). I only need the last three seasons of DBZ and it will be complete. WHAT DO I DO!?

And a few reasons why I don't want the Dragon Boxes. They don't have the American music which I find fits the show better. And the widescreen issue is minimum. I actually like the picture touching all sides of my widescreen television also.

I really hate what Funimation did to this series. Aside from the fact that it became so difficult to get every damned episode with 3 episode DVDs being released, then redone/cropped/butchered (but "better")... I've got a few DVDs from the saiyaman saga, world tournament/buu and season 4. (sigh). So I'm just going to wait for Kai to come out, and while I do enjoy some of the filler episodes of DBZ, I'll probably settle for the Kai releases on blu-ray.

The only good thing about Dragon Ball Kai is that they trimmed the fat. Some really unnecessary aspects that were added to the Dragon Ball Z storyline because they couldn't surpass the manga that was on-going at the same time have been taken out, making the episodes more direct and to the point. The cropping is an issue with Kai, but I'm set on collecting just the Dragon Boxes because I grew up watching in in 4:3 and the packaging with the episode guidebooks make this worthy of my DVD shelf. I really don't think FUNimation will do anything to one-up the Dragon Box releases. If they do, seriously, how much more times can this franchise be repackaged and resold? I wouldn't say it's sane if someone owns each different release of the series that FUNi has pushed out over the years.

I just want to finish my Orange Boxes, because I have the rest, and I need the rest lol
I'll just get them so they look nice next to each other. Then onto the next. I guess I'm just used to watching them on Cartoon Network so they don't seem horrible to me.

I only have 3 of the orange seasons, but I'm going to wait on getting the rest. Not because they are crappy (I like it with the American music better and don't care about the cropping), but because with the Dragonboxes and Kai coming out, these are just getting cheaper and cheaper. I'll wait til I can get them for

When does this deal expire? I have every single DB/Z/GT DVD Funimation (and Pioneer) has released sans the latest Funimation box sets. I want to get Season 1 and 2. The completist in me wants to have the new English music tracks and I'm stopping there. I'm pretty sure the redubbed script will be used for the Dragonbox releases, but I'm waiting on those and Dragonball Season 1 to reach $20 as well.

I want to get DBZ on Blu Ray, but I don't know how to feel about Kai. If Funimation wants me to get that on release day, they better add some extra features that don't include the word "trailers".

Dragonball Z Kai is coming to Blu-Ray, so despite the cropping (which was at least done by the Japanese studio instead of Funimation) it's likely to look better than any DVD release.

The Japanese Blu-rays for Kai have been in fullscreen, despite the show airing in widescreen.

I remember even when I was a huge fan back in high school, I always thought it would be cool to get a good editing rig (not feasible for a 13 year old in 1998) and just start hacking away at this series to speed it up. Even then I never fathomed you could get rid of over 60% of the series.

Waiting on Kai.
