DS Lite Vs. Original DS

I made it's own thread because of people that are trying to decide on which one they should get and this is a great way for people to see which one is better.

After seeing the video, kind of glad I have the regular DS. That looks too small for my hands.

I never really cared much about all the design issues that people have with the DS. I don't need my handhelds to be pretty. I never really thought it was ugly though either. They did do a good job on the redesign though and the screens look sick. Hopefully no blurring issues.

That does look pretty slick. Though I've never had any issues with the oldschool DS being too dark or heavy, but damn Nintendo for making me want this anyway. I might consider getting one if EB or GS has one of those trade-in an old DS + $50 deals and upgrade, but otherwise I wouldn't go to all the time and effort to sell my old one and buy one of these just yet.

Holy shit I need a DS Lite. When is it coming out in the US? Is it out in Japan already? Is it region free if I want to import?

Whites out in japan now, sold out at the moment. The 2 blue colors come out tommorow, will sell out.
It's rumored to be coming out May 7th here, same day as New Super Mario Bros. but so far is just a rumor.
Completely region free

hmmm... I guess I've waited this long so 2 more months won't kill me...

I was already sold on the DS Lite, but that video makes me want to get it even more...and hopefully soon. Hopefully the May 7th date is accurate.
whats the price point? is it gonna be 150 without a pack-in?
In Japan its being sold at MORE than a regular DS, with no pack in. No clue how they'll go about it here

Unless a retailer gives a great trade in deal i'm sticking with my blue DS. The only time i've had problems w/ the screen is in extreme sunlight. I don't like the new placement of start/select (for the games that use them heavily) or new placement of the power button (ever want to turn a game off quickly before it saves when you screw up :D).

In Japan, stores have more freedom on how they can price systems. Shops are buying old DSes (yes, used systems) for more than the retail price and reselling them higher than twice the MSRP. Yes, I'm talking about the old, gray, bulky, dim DS.

The DS Lite will be around $150 here. I don't believe that Nintendo will charge anymore than that for a handheld.

I know about the markups and what not from dealers, but the DS Lite's MSRP is higher than the original DS MSRP. So yeah, while the original DS is $130 here, it will most likely be $150 when released

I'm weak, very very weak. Had no intention of getting a DS Lite, just wanted a regular one didn't know what color, maybe the pure white one to replace my arctic white GBA. Then before I knew it I have a Lite that'll be here next week. Curse you Ebay with your sexy items and ease of use.

Suppose it's not too bad since it wasn't too much more over the $200 the importers have upped it to (though still more then I should be spending right now), and at least this way I don't have to wait till who knows when to make sweet love to it... I... err... I mean play it...

I just have to keep up the reasoning that I was going to buy a DS anyway, and this just shows how weak I am so I probably would have given in and upgraded by the first Lite price drop anyway. I'm just giving all my money up front to have the end result now.

Man, I REALLY hope someone offers a good trade-in deal. I mean, an old DS + $50 would be PERFECT. The screens are amazing.

You're not weak, you just know what you want and can afford it. Nothing wrong with that.

It just came! I know it was going to be awesome and sleek and stuff, but actually holding it and stuff it was way beyond what I expected. Now the battery just needs to charge so I can sit here in the yard naked as a jaybird and bask in its warmth. :(

Yes. None of us wants to see your stylus.

Gladly. :D Heading out after a few more rounds of Mario Kart so I'll throw some up later tonight.

Anything in particular anyone wants to see? At least personally there's always something I want to see or know that no one ever bothers to cover so I'm happy to indulge. Unless it requires me to read Japanese and then you're on your own.

Actually was thinking about it while I was out and decided that I may as well do it right. So pics will wait until tommarow, and I'll accompany it with a little write up since there's some things I've noticed (not necessarily negative) that I haven't seen touched on. Like I said though if there's something you want to know let me know and I'll try and accommodate.

Some comments on how the buttons works, maybe comparble to the original DS or the GBA:SP? That's one thing I've not heard just a whole lot about. Did you get a white one or one of the blues? Where'd you get it from, ebay?

Dang, as I was reading what people had posted, I thought the photos would be up already since the post said tomorrow and it said yesterday for when it was posted...then I realized that's because it's just after midnight...dang it, fooled again.

Anyway, like someone else said, I'm curious as to how the buttons feel. The original DS buttons just didn't do it for me, the feel of them wasn't quite right and the d-pad wasn't quite up to par.

And how big is the weight difference? I know the numbers have been posted (280 grams compared to 220 grams or something like that), but does the lighter weight make a big difference in terms of comfort?

I cant play my DS much because it straight up hurts my thumbs at the joints the way i hold it vs the Sp use to be.

For those of you questioning the eventual price of the Lite here in the US, EGM magazine printed that they believe the Lite will be sold at $130. (With the older model getting a price drop.) Of course, this isn't official; just what they thought.

I really need to get around to selling off my red DS before the Lite gets here.

See I don't know about that. The Micro premiered months after the SP had dropped to $80 but is still $20 higher. The sexy and practical appeal of the Lite is so far beyond that why wouldn't they sell it for $150 when that's pretty much what it goes for in Japan.

What happened with the price of the GBA when the SP was released? Did it drop and the SP was at the price the regular GBA was at before the SP release? Or did it stay the same and the SP was launched at a higher price? That might be a better comparison since that was more similar to the DS to DS Lite situation.

Either way, I still think it's more likely it'll launch at $150. But $130 sure would be nice...

GBA dropped when the SP was released. SP had already dropped when the micro released. Having the regular DS at $130 with the Lite at $150 seems very likely.
