DS Max Media Dock clearance $15 at Wal-Mart

I guess I'd be tempted too at $15, but I'm glad I went with a R4. Paid $32 for the R4 and $12 for the 2Gb kingston microSD. I seem to remember the R4 is much more a "load n play" than the MaxMD.. I had a lot of hassel to convert movies to the dpg format as I have a mac, but it's all worth it...

To me, that MaxMD is monster sized and kills the point of having a lite IMO, so the R4 was a natual choice for me. I'd recommend the R4 even if it's a little more expansive, unless you have a phat and size doesnt matter for you.

I've finally found a couple of these too, all at $20 or $32. Guess I didn't realize they were Compactflash :whistle2:? I have some spare SD cards, but I'd have to go out and buy a CF. That makes this deal only worth it for me to get the PassMe card that it comes with, and I probably won't bite for that unless it's $10 or under.

You can get a Compact Flash card off of Newegg for about $15 or less for a 1 Gig, so it's not bad at all. Little less than $30 overall for the whole shebang.

I'm honestly fine with the movie/media player aspect, and the size of it doesn't really bother me. If I find I use it enough I might invest in an R4 but I honestly barely get enough time with my normal DS games as it is. Kids kind of keep me occupied. ;)
so, anywhere we can go for info on how to get homebrew running on this thing?
check out gbadev.org's forums, and you will find all the help you need

I didn't see any cheaper than $32 but after caving and buying one, I've already gotten my money's worth. It is awesome.

Enh...at $30 total, that's encroaching a little too closely upon "might as well get an R4" territory. I'd prefer a slot-2 device (love GBA), but this one's only worth it for me if it's an absolute bargain, since I still plan on getting a G6 Lite at some point.

Can I assume you have one of these? Have you tried much emulation on it yet? PocketNES has changed my whole gaming lifestyle since I started using it a couple years ago. It's a perfect fit for a busy person with family responsibilities: squeeze in a few rounds in Punch-Out!! while in line at the bank, some quick level grinding in Final Fantasy while waiting to pick up the kids after school. And savestates mean you can play for an hour or for 30 seconds, and always pick up exactly where you left off (ONLY for use with ROMS you legally own, of course ).
PocketNES? How is it? I've been using nesDS and it works pretty damn well.
I have no means to run DS homebrew, so I haven't tried nesDS. My information may be out-of-date, but last I knew, nesDS didn't have savestates working perfectly yet (a MUST for me), and couldn't play a certain sound channel (sampled drums in Mario 3, for instance). It does have more screen-real-estate to work with than PocketNES, which must be nice. Please correct me if I'm wrong about any of this.

PocketNES is a near-perfect solution for me, mostly by virtue of being a GBA program. This means I can start a game of Castlevania II at home on the Game Boy Player, savestate it at any point, then take it with me anywhere on my DSL or Micro. Two-player games are as easy as pluging a link cable into my old SP, and if you've got the hardware handy, PocketNES supports up to 4 players.

Was faced with a lot of downtime at work once. Luckily, I had my SP, my old Afterburned GBA, a link cable, and PocketNES. Me and a co-worker sat down and beat Contra. For my money, it doesn't get any better than that :D

PocketNES is a commercial-quality program (and in fact has been used in some commercial GBA products) in virtually every respect. But (and I may be wrong) I don't think the MAX Media Dock can play GBA homebrew, only DS. So, Yukine, please tell us how nesDS compares, as it's probably the best (and only) option for prospective MMD buyers to play NES games on the go.
