DS owner about to take the PSP plunge BUT.....

Ok now that the Psp is gonna drop to $199 i figure i need to use my FYE credit to go ahead & pic one up (of course that doesn't include the roughly $100 i will need for a BIG memory stick).
Couple that with the flood of AAA games released recently & it's time to come over to the dark side.

My question is.
Where can i find updated info on the whole emulation/homebrew scene?
If i buy a new model PSP will i be assed out in playing old systems?

I've heard that certain games/systems cause the firmware to change resulting in screwing up homebrew possibilities BUT i'm assuming people are working around the clock to remedy these firmware 'upgrades'.

I would say www.pspupdates.com is the best site regarding psp information. News is posted several times a day. As for homebrew, all firmwares as of right now (2.6 being the latest). The best firmware though would be 1.5. If you are buying at a store, you can look on the psp box to see which firmware you have.
