yeah, poldy is right. i got a western digital 250 gig internal hard drive from CC a few weeks ago for $90. if you bought an inclosure, i am sure it would be cheaper than a 200 dollar price you'd pay for just the hard drive. i also got a Memorex Double Layer DVD drive from CC for $90. it is also internal, but it is a great drive. as ram goes, it all depends on what type of ram you need.

Some external enclosures support optical drives, too. So you could get 2 enclosures, then the cheaper internal components.

Hitachi 7K250 160GB Hard Drive + Enclosure $60 at CompUSA.com

CompUSA.com has the Hitachi Deskstar 7K250 160GB Hard Drive + External Enclosure bundle for $165 - $105 rebates [Exp 3/5] = $60 with penny shipping.

I recommend the NEC-3520A for just $60 as the best DVD burner you can buy.

The only 'deal' on RAM is to buy Value Select 1GB packs. Mushkin or Corsair if I were you.

Do nothing with TigerDirect that involves rebates. I've only made one purchase from them, and it was without rebates and a small amount. I wouldn't give them more than $30.

This is true. But, they usually only allow the good reviews of a product/laudatory remarks for their site to be posted.

Zipzoomfly also has good service, and much of the time free 2nd-day FedEx.

I was thinking about picking up a DVD burner as well...and this one seems cheap enough...let me ask, as I'm a novice to the DVD burning scene...I can make straight copies of my DVD movies with the burner, right?

Yeah, but not directly. I suggest the free software DVD Shrink to make 'backups' of your DVDs. This will bypass any copy protection, set it region free, and compress it to fit a normal DVD-R/RW. You can also remove parts from the disc (Like other languages, special features) to use less compression and preserve more quality. You can also reauthor the disc, but I havn't tried that yet.

For just burning home movies or data, I highly suggest Nero for that.

I just picked up a 16x dual layer dvd burner for $70 on clearance at office depot. It comes with a $20 rebate too.
