Alright, i've always wanted to attend an E3 expo. But, I was always to young or didn't have a way.

But now, being over the age of 18, I would really want to attend 06 in May.

I currently work at Best Buy, I worked at EBGames and will be working again at EBGames in hopefully 1-2 weeks.

What would you reccomend being the best solution to get into the expo? I was ALMOST willing to pay the $500, but that is highly ridicoulus.

I would greatly appreciate any help or if you could just point me in a direction.

This would make a little boys...I mean MANS, dreams... come true!

Couldn't you volunteer and get in free that way? I think the work would be worth the $500 in savings, plus you may get some free SWAG.

Or find some way to get a press badge.

if you're not going as media it's really not worth the money, especially as someone without much disposable income (assumably from your age). watch all the cool stuff online and buy yourself a couple of new games, you'll be a lot happier in the long run.

Good luck getting in for free. I got a media badge last year and got in for free, but they're very strict on letting people in, until the last day that is, which is a short day and you could probably buy a badge off of someone by just standing outside and offering up $20

Can't you still just send in your employment info from working at EB and get in free for exhibits only? I went to E3 three times free just using my p/t job at EB. All you had to do was send in a copy of the stores business liscence and a paystub (you could even make up a funny job title to make yourself sound more important)...... but i guess that could have changed (I went to 97 - 98 - and 2000)

I think they changed it to FT and no longer PT last year. But then again my friend got in and he was PT at the time.

As Insano16 said, you should be able to get in w/those items. Check their site also because the rules might've changed.

hey man, E3 is fun but its mostly hype. Ive been there a couple times and i'd save that 500 dollars if i were you.

def. not worth 5 bills

the idea of going on the last day is the best one, if you want to experience E3 on the cheap

a lot of people start heading out the morning of the last day to beat the rush, so it's less crowded plus someone will probably give you their pass

also, even if you get in free - bring some $ for parking and food. it's very pricey

yeah, I've been to E3 and no way it is worth putting down 500 bucks. The main reason so many people are there is because the Company they work for paid the 500 bucks. I mean really, the place is croweded, there aren't as many good games as you'd think. Also to get the free stuff you usually have to wait along time.

And as for the booth babes, Trust me that $500 will go much further at a strip bar or buying drinks for random girls at the club.

I believe they've changed the rules for store employees, now they have to pay the $500 or they can't get in. This may be just a cash grab on their part or it may be to combat the overcrowding by people who really have no business there. If it means less people go there it'll be a good thing at least for those of us who have media access.

For those in retail (from official e3 website):

NEW THIS YEAR, in early February, E3 distributed to key retail outlets a pre-determined amount of pre-approved Priority Buyer Passes. These Priority Buyer Pass recipients will not need to be processed through the qualification system. RETAIL EMPLOYEES SHOULD NOT REGISTER PRIOR TO RECEIVING THESE PASSES. Only Retail employees who register via the Priority Buyer Pass will gain early admission on Opening Day and be given a complimentary Exhibits Only registration. Any retail employee who does not receive a Priority Buyer Pass will be charged an admission fee of $500 until April 7th.

Here's hoping all the corperate big wigs don't take all of the passes.

Luckily, I'm one of the few people at my store who is able and wants to go to e3. I'm hoping my store will at least receive a few passes.

In 2004, I had to provide proof that I worked with TRU with W2 tax form and a copy of my paycheck stub. Last year I was lucky b/c they just sent me an e-mail and I was able to pre-register w/o sending any new info.

Personally, I think I should go to even out the male:female ratio at e3.

Is there any reason you can't make up some fake small newspaper you (supposedly) have a gaming column in and get a media pass that way? You could even submit a fake article that you had published.

Yes, because they verify that you do continous news postings, they demand proof of three published pieces of work and I think they have a strict time limit of how long a site or paper has been around before issuing media badges. They also ask for business licenses, state ID, and business cards. It's not very easy to fake ALL of that.

I got hooked up in 2000 when my friend who worked for SEGA scored some extra passes from her coworkers for me and a couple friends.

Hey guys,

Appreciate the advice. I will try to get a pass from EBGames and see if that works out. If not, i'll take your advice and go the last day and try to snag a free pass.

I know I heard only bad about it. But, it would still be nice just to experience once... And this one should be good. Playable 360 and PS3.

Im gonna try!

:applause:

Good luck in getting in. Despite how good or bad it is, it is a good experience to go at least once. Just don't try to break your bank in getting in.

umm, wasnt (barely) playable 360 exciting at last years E3? I mean the system is out now and there are playable setups in every major electronic store......
you work in an EB right?

For shame that no one cares about a playable Revolution! My main complaint last year was that everything was sooo unoriginal, and now that there's actually the promse of innovation in the industry no one seems to care, well to you I say: Enjoy your boring, but pretty killzone 2, I'll take some fun cooking simulator (with motion detection of course) over it anyday.

Alright, you go enjoy that... in 2007.

Of course, my number 1 thing I want to play is the Revolution.

But it isn't going to be playable at E3.

!
What are you reffering to? All of the media sources I've hit all indicated a storming of revo stuff at this years E3.

They're making it tougher for those who get the free passes as well. I've been 4 years in a row so I'm hoping I won't have trouble getting my free one this year too. They've gotten rid of the 'alumni program' for the P5 tickets as well so all of us P5 attendees need to re-register this year.

If Nintendo is able to make their target launch window, then everyone who wants to play a Revolution badly enough to go to E3 for it will own one by E3 '07.

Ah crap-o.

I didn't get the EBGames job. I hate that (BLEEPIN!) store, it is so hard to get a job there. I don't know HOW I got hired last time.

I still have the job at BestBuy for now... but, I doubt ill be there long. I get 4 hours a week, and... I missed my last work day.

So, I feel as if my chances of getting into my Dream Come true place, is now hopeless.

I even sent the E3 Organizers some emails about getting in there and helping volunteer. (No reply).

So, I guess my last option is to whore myself. But, that never ends good...

Unless any of you have some last chance ideas!

Thanks.
Meanwhile, ill still try to remain like this-> :bouncy:

If you can't make it this year, there's always the next. While it's a good experience to go for the first time, you're not missing much. Sure getting a chance to play the "beta" or even seeing the "alpha" version of the game can be fun. But you will see it all over the net and G4TV. If you're rich then pay for it....but since you're not, don't spend the $500. This doesn't count the living expenses if you don't live nearby.

But if you REALLY must go, I believe someone said to come around Wed. or Thurs. Someone might be willing to sell you their pass....but just remember the security will do random ID checks, seldomly but they did it to my friend one year and I was the one using our friends pass (different name too.)

you're 18? you really want to see a few new games that badly? delay that gratification and you (and your future wife) will go a long way.

Has anyone that works in retail been able to obtain the Priority pass? Today, I was able to speak with our district manager of TRU and he had no info on it at all.

It doesn't look like I'll be able to go this year...sigh.

yes this is the best idea, just ask someone for their pass when they are leaving.

Sigh, I guess im not going to be able to go again.

Anyone else going?

I would praise you so highly if someone could get me in with them. I'll show up with 100 dollar bill.

Please? =(

I tried faxing my industry information, but was never successful.

So no e3 for me this year :([/quote]

Hey, you can come over to my house and we can both pretend that we are at E3. Ill put loud music on and turn the tv to G4, and we can dress up as Important E3 interviewers. Ill hire some friends to pretend to be important head guys, Bill Gates, Hideo Kojima, anyone we want! And WE can interview them!! AND learn all the new stuff before everyone!!!

I shall call it, the E3 Sad and Creepy convention!

Its genious!!

Believe it or not, there's the slightest chance that I'll have two passes. One will be media (pending approval) the other being a general admission (plan B if I can't get in with a media badge) I won't know for another 2 weeks or so if I'm getting my media pass or not, but you're more than welcome to pay for my trip should I be able to get you in. ;)

In other news, I'm on the waitlist for going to see the Nintendo pre-E3 press conference, you know the one where they show off the Revolution and other stuff. I'm still crossing my fingers that I get last second approval.

A) Marry you so you can become a legal citizen
B) Be your slave
C) Just pay for your transportation

Please! PLEASE! Keep in contact with me and tell me how things went. :bouncy:

well I get to go... cause I'm working a booth there. I hope you find some way to get in. I recently also just turned 18 this year and this'll be my first year going.

Filthy beggar! :) No promises for you, but I might sell it for some spending moneyor maybe I'll just put it up for the highest bidder?

The high priced packages are really meant for industry professionals and developers specifically. The $500 gets you the very important conference seesions, with reputable keynote speakers and industry talk. If you just want to go for the expo itself, it's not worth $500. Employers usually pay for our admission and hotel expenses anyways for the conference packages.

Also, if you really want to go, I recommend you be over 21 years old. That way, you can get into many of the exclusive afterparties for alcohol purposes.

I am thinking of going infront of E3, the last day or so... with 50-100 dollars bribing people to give me their pass...

But, I think if I get the pass, and I get in. I might be caught, or I couldnt get in cause I dont have an ID.

Woot, I went today.

Lol, thanks everyone for helping me try to get in.

I just ran through when they lady wasnt looking!

SCORE!

It was pretty amazing... my head hurts though. Time for sleep!
