I just got word that we’ll have a very cool treat coming this week to the PLAYSTATION Store. What would E3 be without a new Metal Gear Solid trailer?
The latest Metal Gear Solid 4 trailer will be available exclusively for download on the PLAYSTATION Store shortly following our press conference tomorrow. From our friends over at Konami and Kojima Productions, I heard they were still putting the final touches on the trailer a mere five hours before it was hand carried today to Santa Monica for E3!!
As a reminder, the press conference will be streamed here, but if you’re one of the many MGS purists, you will no doubt want to download the trailer straight from the PlayStation Store in HD and 5.1 surround. Enjoy!

Assassin's Creed

The E3 demo begins with our anti-hero, Altair, standing on a roof high above Jerusalem. The city, faithfully recreated to match its 12th century real-life counterpart, features a number of historical landmarks. The Tower of David can be seen in the distance. Everything Altair sees he can not only reach, but can climb as well. The scope of the city's size is made all the more impressive by the fact that each building is made up of numerous foot- and handholds that allow Altair to climb pretty much any wall he comes across. And this is just one of three major cities, all promised to be of comparable size and scale.

The controls are built on simple principles, but are tough to get a handle on at first. The face buttons represent your head, free hand, weapon hand, and feet. The Right Trigger acts as a modifier. Hold it and the feet button down to perform the most crucial move in Assassin's Creed: free run. With free run you can perform some amazing feats of daring-do. It's your tool for scaling just about any building. If you just run towards a building with free run active, you will often be able to leap up to an available nook and then continue your climb to the top. This action is instantaneous and fluid. Unlike Gears of War, which sucks you into a wall, Assassin's Creed makes the interactions between Altair and his environment look and feel natural.

Mirror's Edge

July 10, 2007 - The fine folks at DICE have wowed us with Battlefield, their uniquely appealing multiplayer action franchise. But now the Stockholm-based developer is turning their attention to the action adventure genre. Confirmed today by Electronic Arts, the "revolutionary new take on the first person action adventure category" Mirror's Edge is due out in 2008 for the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3.

Though the basic description of the game seems like a radical departure for the developer, DICE's general manager Patrick Soderlund is hoping they can bring the same level of innovation to the action adventure genre as they brought to the multiplayer shooter.

Senior producer Owen O'Brien offered a few hints: "We want to change the way that players are able to move in first person. No more restrictions, no more being blocked by simple barriers such as walls and fences. We want to enable the player to move like a real person, with the ability to run, jump, vault and slide in a way that has never been seen before in a first person game."

We'll have more information soon.

I think that Sony has the potential to steal the show this year. Microsoft didn't wow me all too much, and I don't even have a PS3. Honestly, Sony hasn't shown us all to much content over the year, and if they have been saving that content for E3, they could blow everyone away.

No 360 price drop, so now the PS3 looks more appealing.

Looks like Sony timed things right for once to coincide with MS's hardware failure debacle. That 1 billion lost to MS no doubt affected their price drop announce.

So looks like Sony has some leeway to catch up now.

My PS3 purchase is confirmed if Sony puts on a strong show, which would really help them considering how ho-hum Microsoft's was. I'm looking forward to seeing some Tekken 6, MGS4, Heavenly Sword, Uncharted, R&C, and FFXIII (and Versus too I guess). Killzone 2 should be a nice crowd-pleaser.

I think Squeenix also announced a console Parasite Eve game, so that'd be a very cool surprise for me if it made an appearance.

I'm just hoping that Lair doesn't suck. Previews for the game haven't been all that positive.

I saw Parasite Eve is coming to cell phones, not consoles.

That doesn't bar a sequel. In fact, it shows that they still remember the series. Remember, FF7's spin offs started with a cell phone game I think. Later came all this other stuff.

The link I posted says they're working on a new console Parasite Eve.

I heard somewhere the NDAs for the Killzone trailer end at 1am PST tonight? Any truth in that? If so, I may wait a bit longer.

Tomorrow will be a busy day with press conferences.

Wednesday, July 11 9:00AM Nintendo Press Conference
Wednesday, July 11 11:30AM Sony Computer Entertainment America, Inc.
Wednesday, July 11 2:00PM Electronic Arts
Wednesday, July 11 3:15PM Activision
Wednesday, July 11 4:30PM Midway
Wednesday, July 11 5:45PM Konami Digital Entertainment America, Inc.

I just have to make sure to get a good seat early since all conferences starting with EA are at the same location. I swung by the show today to pick up my badge and check out the ESA Welcome Reception that had some of the Into the Pixel 2007 pieces. I sure hope there are more than the 8 pieces that they were showing during the reception. There was a pretty cool Viva Pinata piece on display but most of the others were so-so. The vibe at the hotel was so different from past E3s so it will be interesting to see how the show unfolds.

The NDA will probably be lifted after their press conference tomorrow since I am sure MGS4 and Killzone 2 will be their 2 highlights of the event.

I read something like that on Jeremy Dunham's blog at ign...dunno if it's true but hey I'm staying up a little late tonight anyway lol

Damn, I'll be missing both Sony and Ninty tomorrow. Don't really care for the rest. Konami, maybe.. but I think MGS4 will be unveiled during Sony's.

I've looking forward to Resident Evil 5 and Call of Duty 4, both of which were shown doing the Mircosoft show. Call of Duty looked fantasitc and the quick demo really peaked my interest where I had ZERO before. Crazy how many cross platforms they showed, but at least we got quick view of the titles early.

Nintendo and Sony are invite only, all the others are open to all E3 attendees.
Son'y conference has to be better than MS's
The test I have to take in class today will be better than MS' conference
anybody couldve beaten Microsoft today... after that fiddle intro >_

Konami has been so mean to Zone of Enders... its time for another one.. and a 3d Gradius spin off using the Vic Viper mech wouldn't be so bad either.

I hope that Sony's conference is good. The MS one and Nintendo ones were just "meh" (though Zelda: Phantom Hourglass looks neat) so I'm hoping Sony will have some good surprises.

Sony has the most to lose and gain from this Press conference. They've got some good momentum from killzone 2 plus the price drop. The other 2 guys played it safe, it's time for Sony to WOW.
